Chapter 177: Weapon Attainment Realms

The Li Family Spear Technique was one that had followed Li Ling from his earliest days, and even upgrading it to Perfection back then had miraculously birthed the esoteric Spear Will, which had served him well up until now.

But the question was, would limit breaking this technique that was a non-Daoist art give birth to something special? Li Ling was interested in finding out, so he paid the meager 50 Slaughter Point cost to limit break it!

Immediately, a smile appeared on his face even as he closed his eyes, for he knew that indeed, his bet was right. Based on the level of complex information about spears and spear fighting using spiritual energy entering his mind, he knew he had lucked out big time.

But Li Ling underestimated just how much he lucked out when he opened his eyes a whole two days later, his pupils flashing with a bright light that released two spear lights that rushed out and pierced into the wall of his cultivation chamber.

Li Ling had not only received a new art with extremely meaningful power, he had received a wealth of information that was previously obscure to him. Li Ling had known about the general martial artist realms and their special attainments with weapons, like Spear Will, which was achieved by mortals and martial artists, said to be the pinnacle of martial skill mastery.

But the Infinite Slaughter System was telling him that this was not the limit!

Cultivators also had their weapon attainment realms, which were mostly emphasized by righteous sects with a weapon focus, like the Bright Sword Sect.

At the pinnacle of mortal mastery was the Will Realm, which could be Sword Will, Spear Will, Axe Will, etc. Here, one was able to generate an ’idea’ of their weapon that was infused into their strikes, and depending on the weapon used and the type of idea formed or contained in the technique they practiced, it became the ’Will’ they embodied.

Li Ling had naturally attained the Slaughter Will, which had the effect of placing a debuff of intimidation and aura pressure when battling an enemy who did not have their own martial will or significant mental defenses. On top of that, when his Asura Reaper spear struck the defense of his foe—regardless of whether it was another weapon, their body, or some form of shield—a portion of damage would be transmitted through the defense regardless.

In other words, he ignored a portion of defense and dealt ’true damage’. This was what he used to deal with Jian Chen and his cronies back then.

It was only incidentally that Li Ling discovered that Spear Will could be mixed with spirit sense of Foundation Establishment, causing it to be able to move within the range of his spirit sense without using the Spirit Sense Control technique.

Not only had it been much more efficient that way, he found that he could even perceive the status of the weapon as well as use it autonomously, unlike the Spirit Sense Control technique, which required manual and fine control.

But that was incidental.

The truth was that each realm had its own affiliated weapon attainment realm, and Li Ling only ’brute-forced’ such efficiency with the Spear Will and Spirit Sense.

For example, in the first realm of cultivation for both body and qi, the upgraded form of the Will Realm, which was limited to martial artists, was termed the Heart Realm. This was the realm Li Ling had just attained thanks to reaching the first level of the newly born spear technique.

The Heart Realm was about eliminating thought and emotion from one’s connection to their weapon, leaving only pure instinct. This did not increase the power of attacks over the boost the Will Realm gave, but it did give sleeker control in a more subjective way.

It was like the logic behind Dharma Power and Dharma Sense. It’s not an objectively new form of creation, but rather an already perfected creation being mixed with something or having something removed to make it achieve a new level of power.

If you re-added the removed thing or removed the newly added thing that made it superior, it would immediately revert to its previous state.

The Heart Realm was so. It was your Will that no longer contained your thoughts, worries, or emotions, only moving by pure instinct.

As for why this was superior, it didn’t need a long explanation. Whis had already explained it succinctly by saying, ’When thought disappears, wasted movement disappears with it.’

Li Ling exhaled and decided to name this technique the Lance God Canon.

The first level was what he had achieved just now, unlocking the Heart Realm and Spear Heart. As a first-realm-adjacent stage in the technique, it also benefited extra from the addition of spirit sense and, of course, Dharma Sense, granting it far more range, fluidity, and especially raw power.

To advance to the next stage, it cost 100 Slaughter Points, which was the base cost for Foundation Establishment techniques. Li Ling naturally valued the Lance God Canon, as it paired up with the Blood Asura Descent more than 100% in terms of compatibility.

Utilizing spears had always been a matter of control, flexibility, and speed, which was exactly the main focus of the Blood Asura Descent.

After a period of an entire week, Li Ling opened his eyes and breathed out once more, restraining his surging power which came from his newly comprehended realm.

He had ascended to the second realm equivalent of the weapon attainment path, the Manifestation Realm.

The previous two realms enhanced one’s control and connection to their weapons, which was more of a martial-related thing. However, the Manifestation Realm was where the ’magic’ aspect of these realms truly began, because it was no longer about just controlling the weapon or infusing your energy into it.

Now, one could actually manifest their intent into reality with a tangible form. Within the range of one’s spirit sense, and with the help of it, a cultivator could now stab out with their weapon and generate a wave of manifested intent in the form of a semi-corporeal energy attack.

Indeed, it was the famous Sword Qi, Saber Qi, and Spear Qi that were talked about, the type that would form energy attacks like sword waves, saber cuts, or spear shadows that could either be used to attack or superimpose with a physical attack at the same time.

Li Ling didn’t just move on with the upgrades; he actually took out his Asura Reaper spear, stood up, and stabbed forth with his Spear Manifestation, causing a beam of piercing spear light to surge outward from the tip and strike the wall, causing the entire reinforced cultivation chamber to shake and a deep hole to form in the wall.

Thoughtful, Li Ling smiled and placed the spear across his lap, smiling as he thought of ways to properly utilize this in the upcoming tournament a little over a month away. He then saw that the Lance God Canon could go up one more level at the cost of 1,000 Slaughter Points, so he paid the steep cost.

In the end, he spent an entire two-week period contemplating before opening his eyes, a surge of power emerging from his body that spread out in a semi-corporeal manner from him, reaching the very edges of the cultivation chamber and beyond.

The third realm equivalent of the weapon attainment path achieved: the Domain Realm!

The name was self-explanatory. One pushed their manifested intent to cover an area that encapsulated their spirit sense range, forming a domain where the enemy was suppressed and weakened, and where your attacks could be masked, superimposed, or even delayed.

As Li Ling’s Dharma Sense was able to reach around 5.5 kilometers around his body, this became his domain range.

Li Ling sighed and glanced at the Lance God Canon, which could not be upgraded anymore due to his lacking realm. He either had to reach qi or body cultivation in the fourth realm before he could continue, which made sense, since each weapon attainment realm required elements from the various equally matched cultivation realms to be able to function.

Since the Lance God Canon had upgraded into a Daoist art, it left the non-Daoist art section and joined the list of ’superior arts’, looking down on his former brethren with a sneer.

Unwilling to take such humiliation, the Disguise Art, which was next in line, swore that thirty years to the east and thirty years to the west, one shouldn’t bully the young and poor!

Seeing that this one could be limit broken for 50 Slaughter Points and might be useful to Li Ling himself, but more likely for the undercover Li Fan, Li Ling paid the cost and entered a short comprehension period of a few hours before opening his eyes.

It wasn’t a Unique Immortal Art, but an already existing technique for cultivators called the Body Morphing Spell, a body cultivator technique allowing them to shift their bones and musculature with ease, adopting different looks from the ground up.

As Li Ling had limit broken it, he now obtained the Body Morphing Spell at Perfection.

And oh, what it could do!
