Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 431 - Entering the Ferreira Area

After using the last two days to observe the other areas and earn myself some money, I am finally at my final stop which is the Ferreira Mines. This is the highest rated one so I have high expectations of this place. I once again did a little switcheroo with how I looked and how I am dressed to blend in the area.

I started my shift at around 7am, a little after sunrise since I want to make sure I am well fed first. I also need to double check if my disguise is on point.

As a normal miner, I patiently fell in line and rented my mining tools. I quietly observed the surroundings and the first thing I noticed is how the overall feel of the place is much more lively, happy and light, given that the work ahead is not so light. Most people look like they know each other and are friends.

On one side of the mine, I can see a small settlement of tents which seem to be the accommodations provided to the miners. It was quite simple but at least it was hygienic and serves its purpose which is to shade everybody from the elements.

As usual, the shift is also for 8 hours but the difference was, miners are free to start and end their shift whenever they want to. Supervisors that handle the worker’s registration are stationed at the entrance of the mine 24/7 in shifting schedules to ensure that people can be accounted for and can work anytime.

For those that are willing to, this mining area also offers the option to take extra work hours that are paid higher than the regular rate. Most miners that have bigger families they have to provide for, take on these extra hours everyday of the week. None of the miners complain though because the pay is fair and working was totally voluntary.

My working day went by with me having fun and chatting with other miners while we work. I also asked them simple questions about their life and work here in the Ferreira region. They have positive comments on the management and even shared their regrets of even trying the other areas first before going here.

I simply agreed with them and shared that it was only my third day mining and I tried Erdene on my first day and Oriol on the second. They look at me with eyes that seem to show pity and understanding. They then perked me up by saying that I will love it here and they would love to work with me for a long time. I simply smiled back at all of them and nodded excitedly.

As expected, my productivity was the best for the day. Everybody was just happy getting extra rewards for doing well today. They all thanked me and unlike in other places where you get shady looks from others, they all waved their goodbyes at me and returned to the settlement nearby where they all live. It seems that the workers here are mostly contractual ones and not daily workers like me.

Since this place seemed safer, I decided to ask around where the leader of this place lived. Everybody was polite so I was guided there quickly. Once at the gates, I simply showed my royal envoy seal and I was let in with no questions.

I sat in a seat inside the humble living room of the leader’s villa. For someone who is considered rich due to being in the mining industry, the Ferreira family’s home looks rather refined. You know that the materials used to build this place was high quality but they chose not to be too flashy about it. I guess it mirrors the sentiments of the leader which is not to make his workers feel that he is too out of reach for them.

I barely waited a minute when the patriarch and the matriarch of the family started hurrying down the staircase to meet me. They started calling for some servants to give me some refreshments while the mother asked one of the servants to call for her children to meet an important guest. I looked away as if I did not understand what she was trying to do.

The hurried couple sat in front of me and started greeting me enthusiastically. The leader whose name is Leroy started thanking me for visiting his territory first. I just gave him a smile and his eyes flickered a bit. I guess he realized that I know the fact that he had people spying in the other places. It is not in my position to tell him off because I am sure that the other two leaders are doing the same thing.

After a few minutes, refreshments and snacks came in and we shared it over some chitchats. I then requested to speak in a more private setting since I have many questions about his territory that I am sure they don’t want others to hear about. They nodded in understanding and started guiding me to Leroy’s private office. His wife, Marga excused herself for a bit since she said that she forgot that she has something to do.

Leroy and I ended up inside his office. Once we are seated, I immediately went to the main topic and asked for information about his territory in terms of livelihood, sources of income and facilities that he wanted to improve on. He honestly provided me all the information and we had a little discussion on how to go about the improvements. Once settled, he committed that he had enough workers to go about the improvements as long as the capital can provide the funding and the materials.

I nodded at him and said that I have all the materials with me and that we can start anytime. This surprised Leroy at first but then he started profusely thanking me. I told him that we will work on it first thing tomorrow morning with our combined efforts. After completing what I came for in the Ferreira household, I bid my goodbye and teleported back to my wagon.

Yeah, I am just trying to escape. I can hear footsteps coming towards the door of the study. I don’t want to deal with anybody’s son right now.
