Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 455 - Reaching the Military Camp
Chapter 455: Chapter 455 - Reaching the Military Camp
As my wagon got nearer and nearer the borders of the military camp, I already noticed that scouts in the camp are stationed on the wall near the main gates. I continued my wagon’s leisurely pace since they could already see me coming at this distance anyways. There was no need to be in a hurry then ending up looking like I am about to attack theor camp.
Inside the military camp, a scout standing in one of the posts near the gate has seen an old wagon approaching the camp. He immediately signaled one of his colleagues to tell the general about the approaching vehicle so that his superior can personally decide how the camp should react towards the incoming vehicle.
Not even a minute has passed when the general came up the wall to have a look at the incoming wagon. He only observed for a while when he gave the orders to let it in. The other soldiers were confused so the general simply explained, "That is our supply wagon from the capital" without missing a beat. He then left and went back to his personal quarters to try to get some sleep again.
As the wagon reached only the mark where it was only 100 meters away from the gate, the soldiers though a bit confused about the order they received, started opening the heavy gates of the camp to let the incoming wagon in. As the wagon neared, the soldiers obviously looked disappointed as the wagon looked very old and rickety. The horses even looked gaunt and sickly. They must be thinking, "Is this the best that the capital could send to them?"
As for the general that went back to his quarters, he smirked before closing his eyes amused at the wagon that was clearly packed with illusion and disguise spells. He wanted to see what the wagon really looked like once the spells were lifted but he was just too tired and needed urgent rest after being sleepless for several days. With that thought, he went back to his bed to sleep.
This military camp has two generals assigned to it as of the moment. The first one is assigned to take care of all the external affairs which includes handling the skirmishes, making sure that the soldiers are well-armed and to ensure that anyone who got injured or died will be brought swiftly back inside the camp for treatment or proper burial. He also takes care of responding to any missives from the capital and other military branches.
The other general stays back inside the camp in case there are attacks or diversions that target the main camp. Aside from that, he takes care of internal affairs like managing the military infirmary, distribution of meals and other supplies, keeping note of the inventory of supplies whenever they receive deliveries and requesting for items that are no longer available in the camp.
As I neared the camp gates, I noticed that the heavy gates have started to open which means I have received permission to enter without much trouble. With my good eyesight, I could already see the disappointment in the faces of the soldiers. Sure, my wagon looked really shabby and my horses looked emaciated so I understand. It is just weird that they don’t realize that this may just be a disguise like how merchants use the same tactics to hide the fact that they are transporting valuable items.
The soldiers, noticing that I do not have any intention of slowing down the wagon, started to panic. The people around the gates started pulling the gates with all their might and as quickly as possible. They must have feared the possibility of my wagon slamming on the thick and heavy gate.
Just as I passed through the gates, the gap I used was just enough to let me in with only a few inches of breathing space on both sides. I heard a frantic sigh from the soldiers assigned to the gate. One of them immediately called me out of the wagon to state my name, my purpose and if I have a particular person I am looking for. The tone he used had hints of irritation and being impolite.
In front of everybody around the wagon, I started undoing the illusions on my horses and the wagon itself. The horses began to look bigger, muscular and way healthy looking than they were earlier. The wagon looked bigger, newer and it was made of good quality wood and metal. I can hear several gasps around the area.
Without alighting the wagon, with a cold tone, I simply stated, "Luna. Royal Envoy from Hoffen. Requesting a personal meeting with General Delphis." As I ended my answers, I threw out an important letter sighed by the people who sent me here on the ground in front of the shouting soldier’s feet.
Upon seeing the all too familiar crest of the royal family, the soldier immediately bent down to pick up the letter and cleaned it by wiping it on his military uniform. With a shaky hand, he opened the letter and read through it quietly
After reading it, he closed it gently and folded it neatly inside his chest pocket. He started explaining to everyone who I was and started calling for specific soldiers to find me a place to park the carriage and escort me there. He also sent someone to notify General Delphis of my arrival and my request for an urgent meeting.
He then bowed towards the carriage and apologized for his earlier rude behavior but I simply answered with a non-commital "hmm".
He hurriedly ran away after hearing my response, saying that he will ask someone to prepare the place for the meeting and some food and drinks.
Two soldiers saluted towards my wagon and asked me to follow them to where I could park and tie my horses. They promised to guard the wagon and treat the horses well. I gave another non-commital "hmm" and asked the horses telepathically to follow the two guides.
I can feel several pairs of eyes following my every move as I passed by numerous tents that seemed to be used by the soldiers as their personal quarters. I was given a spacious area next to the military infirmary to park the wagon. They respectfully told me that they will advise me once the place of the meeting and the general are already inside.
