Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 457 - Great News from the Capital
Chapter 457: Chapter 457 - Great News from the Capital
Colonel Andreas Armand’s POV
Listening to the conversation between General Delphis and the royal envoy, I vowed not to show any reaction to whatever I will be hearing inside. Secrecy is one of the things we vowed to in the military. Confidential talks like these are only between the parties present.
When I heard that the royal envoy is carrying the requested supplies, my heart skipped a beat. Finally, our soldiers won’t need to skimp on their meals and medical care won’t be delayed further. Hopefully, we can also change out of our old uniforms that have clearly seen better days. It seems that the envoy is a doctor too so maybe the military hospital can breathe a little bit with her help.
I thought there is nothing else that can surprise me but when I heard about the "trading post" that she wanted to build, it honestly caught my attention. The more the envoy explained about its functions and the services that will be available through it, the more that I could no longer control my emotions.
Did she just say we can send out letters and receive aid faster? Does that mean we can send letters and other things to our families? This is definitely good news to the majority of soldiers that come from commoner families.
Sending a letter costs a lot so only the soldiers from richer families could afford to send one every month. We commoners can rarely do that. Most do not do it at all since they can’t afford the service and rather use their money for something else.
Letters are usually sent first to the post office in a city nearest to our hometowns then the city post office will send it to the more rural and far flung areas in the empire. The time consumed and all the personnel involved just to send one letter makes the service too expensive for low ranking soldiers and those of commoner decent, in general.
With this trading post, even if it costs a fee, we can just pool together our money so we can send not only letters but other items like food and clothing to our families if we are from the same village or town. The fact that we can send money securely would already be a huge difference to everyone. If letters and parcels reach the city quickly as well, we only have to worry about the price of labor needed to bring it to the smaller villages and towns.
I am excited to tell all my subordinates about it but since I don’t have all the details yet and I have not yet received a go signal to announce it to others, I don’t have a choice but to keep this news to myself. The only thing I could do for now is to give instructions as preparation to complete tasks related to the topics discussed inside. Soldiers are trained to follow before asking any questions anyways.
I first went to the team that is assigned for building and maintaining facilities inside the camp. I gave them instructions to find a highly accesible (preferably near the central area), empty or unused land inside the camp that is at least 200 square meters. I simply advised them to clean it up and wait for further instructions.
The next thing I did is to go to the team that handles the storage facilities and the inventories. I simply advised them that the royal envoy has arrived so they have to update the inventory records as well as tidy up the inside of the warehouses to make space for any new supplies that may come in. i just had to say the word "inspection" to keep everybody on their toes.
After that place, I went to the military hospital. I advised them about an upcoming inspection by the royal envoy. They should know what to do if they hear that. I also dropped by the pharmacy to advise them to tidy up the inventory records for an upcoming inspection and supplies delivery.
Just with a few words from me, the whole camp was filled with noise and people going around like busy bees. Even the others decided to at least bathe and dress up properly since they don’t know which places the envoy will suddenly decide to visit. They don’t want to disappoint the envoy at all.
I dropped by the dining facilities as well to remind them to be at their best since the royal envoy has arrived. The chef and his assistants could only smile helplessly. I understand where they are comng from knowing that one can’t really cook something amazing with incomplete ingredients but they could only do their best within what they have.

General Hugo Delphis’ POV
I was shaken awake by my close aide, Andreas inside my personal quarters. It only took one short sentence for him to push all the sleepiness from my entire being out of my body. He said, "The royal envoy is here."
I hastily dressed myself presentably, used my hands to tidy up my hair and almost ran to the tent used for meetings. Inside the tent, I sat on my designated chair panting with Andreas standing behind me for support. I am nervous and at the same time eagerly waiting for any news from the capital. I am just hoping it is something good for my soldiers.
As the envoy entered the tent, I was surprised to see that they sent a young woman whose eyes are the only part that I can see on her veiled face. I couldn’t help but notice her beautiful eyes, coldly observing me and the man behind me. The next thing I noticed was how she came in the tent with the refreshing scent of spring flowers. This is a very rare scent in this place full of rough and sweaty men that don’t care if they haven’t showered for a day or two.
As she sat across me, it took every bit of my being to take my eyes off of hers and refocus myself on the task at hand. I greeted her formally, providing my name, rank and what my job entails inside this military camp. I have read her introduction and referral letter and I know she is a polymath, one who is well-versed in many disciplines at such a young age. If my mother sees this type of credentials, she would have done everything to get this woman into our family.
Contrary to my expectations, her introduction was just her name and that she was an envoy from the capital. I couldn’t help but chuckle at it and forgot that we weren’t that familiar with each other to just laugh like that. Andreas slapped my shoulder heavily to get me back on track.
I had to apologize for being rude and explain why I laughed. She totally ignored it and went straight to the reason why she came in this military camp. She was cold, direct and professional throughout the meeting.
It didn’t even take 10 minutes for her to finish relaying everything that she needs to let us know. I was stunned with the sheer amount of information she provided and the amount of good news it contained.
The last few things I remembered was Andreas asking her a question which she replied with a nod of her head. After that, my aide left in a hurry, running as if there was an emergency. As for the mysterious envoy, she stood up and left as well after saying a few more words to me. As to what she said, I seemed to have missed most of it for some reason.
