An hour passed, and Theo sat under the shadow of a tree.

There was a long, square white cloth under him, which looked much like a picnic mat.

The mantis was the same as before, in a small greyish-green cocoon that hadn't moved even an inch for the past hour.

The eyes of the boar had not moved from the cocoon ever since, and the pup had tried going to sniff it multiple times, only to be stopped by Clara every time.

"I should have started this process in the terrarium room… hahhhh~" Theo sighed and closed his eyes and laid his back against the bark of the big tree.

It seemed like he was really on a picnic and not in a dangerous slime biome.

"Was the decision in your hands, young master?" Clara asked with curiosity. Although her questions had reduced in the past hour, there were still some from time to time.

"Partially," Theo spoke and finally got up from his rest. It had been an hour since he sat down and if not anything, it had made him lazy. He went toward the cocoon again and looked at it from close.

It was still the same as ever. Theo crouched and moved his hand closer until it was only inches away from it. Clara's eyes widened and she was ready to pull him back anytime.

'Is it even okay at this point?' A thought came to his mind. The mantis had been inside the covering for so long now.

'It's rough…' Theo's finger touched the coating of the oval cocoon. It was rough to the touch.

Just when his finger came in contact with the surface of the cocoon, a sudden jerk came from it.

Theo instinctively flinched his hand back. Clara came running toward Theo and got him a few steps back for safety. The movement of the cocoon had not left anybody's eyes.

Grrr…

The pup growled toward the cocoon as if intimidated by it.

"Young master, the energy in that thing just increased… this will attract nearby monsters toward us. We need to go," Clara explained, making Theo frown.

"What? We can't leave this place without the mantis. We may have chosen the wrong place for this to happen, but we have to see it through and protect it."

"As you wish…" Clara still didn't seem to think of this as a good idea, yet the command of the heir was absolute.

Theo looked at the cocoon that was still moving slightly. It felt like the mantis inside it had started to move around.

He wanted to go help the covering off it, yet Theo knew Clara wouldn't let him do that.

'If this doesn't go on quickly, she will take me away even if it means by force… Can I pick this cocoon up?'

The pup was still looking warily at the cocoon, its growls coming out every few seconds.

Suddenly, its eyes darted to the side, and that was when Clara realized it too.

"Incoming beasts from the left, young master."

Theo looked toward the place the pup was looking at with surprise. Why were there beasts coming all of a sudden?

Suddenly, from the dense bushes came out a greenish moss slime, and Theo sighed in relief. If it was just the slime, then things could be easy.

Theo's relief was short-lived as he saw another, and then another, and then another enter the clearing at a rather fast pace.

Soon, around 10 slimes were in the clearing, and Clara took a few steps forward.

"Just slimes…" Theo muttered, although there was not much conviction in his voice.

"Young master, always remember... even slimes can be dangerous in numbers," Clara warned, her tone firm.

"Stay behind me, please."

The pup came and clung onto Theo's leg, while the Ironback Boar went toward the group of monsters with a snort.

Looking at the slimes, Theo felt a little weird. Although the boar was coming in front of them, their trajectory seemed to still be toward the oval structure the mantis was in.

The cocoon was still moving left and right, as if the mantis was trying to come out.

The first slime lunged forward by making its body elongate further toward the mantis's location.

Yet the boar, that was already near it, moved its foreleg up and smashed the slime right under the hoof.

The slime's body exploded everywhere, and the core shattered on the spot. Theo felt relieved as the boar seemed strong enough to take care of them all.

Yet, on the other hand, Clara was frowning, and the reason showed right away.

The slimes were now simultaneously moving toward the boar, who snorted in anger, and a small squeak came from its mouth.

It smashed yet another slime, but almost every other had already reached its legs.

The slime that was closest came in contact with the leg and quickly started moving around it until the whole hoof was inside the slime.

SQUEAK!

The boar seemed to shout in anger and pain, and that was when it thrashed its legs up and down in a hurry. Yet the core moved everywhere inside the slime without getting damaged, and bubbles started forming inside the slime.

Just when the boar was struggling to get the slime that had attached itself, the other slimes were not waiting around. They attached themselves to the other legs, and some went for the same one.

Theo's face went pale. This was a situation where he couldn't tell what was going to happen. The legs of the boar seemed to deteriorate with time, and that was when Theo saw panic on Clara's face too.

"Go help him," Clara spoke, which made the pup leave Theo's side almost instantly. Clara went to Theo on behalf of the pup and went on guard.

The pup was very fast in moving, and it reached the slimes almost a second later. Its small paws speedily went inside one of the slimes, and without getting stuck too, the paw seamlessly went and scratched the core, which damaged it in the process.

The slime fell apart almost instantly, yet whenever the pup tried going for the ones that were attached to the boar's legs, the boar thrashed its body, which made the pup flinch back instinctively.

"Sigh… I guess we are doing this…" Clara spoke with a smile, yet there was this coldness in her voice and eyes.

Theo knew that look of hers, and he couldn't help but think that something was going to happen soon.
