Interstellar Beastworld: Raising A Cub With My Mummy System!-Chapter 46: RECEIVING INFO, 360 DEGREES
He was almost asleep when Uriel carried him back into the bedroom.
Lin Yue had not moved. She was still curled on her side, her face peaceful, her breathing slow.
Uriel stood beside the bed, looking down at her. Auriel’s head rested against his shoulder, his tiny body warm and soft.
"I am afraid I cannot do everything," Uriel said quietly to his son. "Meal time is your mother’s job."
Auriel made a small sound, not quite a cry, just a noise.
Uriel sat on the edge of the bed. He reached out and touched Lin Yue’s shoulder gently. "Lin Yue."
She did not move.
"Lin Yue," he said again, a little louder. "Your son is hungry."
Her eyes opened slowly, unfocused. She blinked at him, then at Auriel.
"Is he okay?" she asked, her voice rough with sleep.
"He is fed, bathed, lotioned, massaged, dressed, and combed," Uriel said. "Now he needs his mother."
Lin Yue pushed herself up on her elbows, looking at Auriel. His hair was soft and smooth, his onesie clean, his skin glowing from the lotion. He looked more peaceful than she had seen him all night.
"You did all that?" she asked.
"Mira left instructions."
She laughed softly, reaching for Auriel. Uriel handed him over carefully, and the baby settled against her chest immediately, his mouth searching.
She looked at Uriel, who was watching them both with an expression she was still learning to read.
"You are getting good at this," she said.
"I am trying."
She smiled and looked down at their son, who had found what he was looking for. The room was quiet, the morning light warm, the chaos of the night finally behind them.
It was a good start.
Auriel sucked happily, like it was the most delicious thing in the world. His free hand waved lazily in the air, fingers opening and closing, batting at nothing. Every few seconds, a small sound escaped him, soft little eh-eh-eh coos that bubbled up between swallows.
Uriel found it very cute.
He stood watching for a moment longer than he intended, his hand resting on the back of the chair. The morning light caught Auriel’s pale hair, making it glow, and Lin Yue’s face was soft with sleep and tenderness.
But he had work to do.
The Zephorian situation would not wait, and Magus had already sent three messages.
"Will you be fine on your own?" he asked.
Lin Yue nodded, shifting Auriel slightly. "We will be fine."
"If something comes up, do not hesitate to call me."
She nodded again.
Uriel leaned down and pressed a kiss to Auriel’s cheek. The baby’s waving hand bumped against his nose, and he caught it gently, then released it. He straightened, looked at Lin Yue, and decided she deserved the same treatment. He kissed her cheek, brief but deliberate.
Then he left.
The door closed softly behind him.
Lin Yue watched the space where he had been, then looked down at Auriel. "Your father is learning quite fast." she whispered.
Auriel cooed, eh-eh, and kept eating.
A familiar screen flickered in the corner of her vision.
[Good morning.]
The text appeared, followed by a small animated emoji yawning, its little mouth opening wide.
Lin Yue stared. "Are you yawning?"
[I can yawn. I have circadian rhythms.]
"But you’re a system."
[I am a very advanced system. I get tired.]
Lin Yue shook her head, smiling. Auriel had finished eating and was now drifting off again, his mouth slack, his eyes half closed. She lifted him to her shoulder and patted his back gently until a small burp escaped.
[You are getting good at that.]
"It is not difficult. He is small."
[Small things are often the hardest.]
She thought about that, looking down at Auriel’s peaceful face. "Did you find anything new on the accounts? The rat?"
[I am still compiling. The discrepancies go back several years. The pattern is there, but I need more time.]
Lin Yue nodded. "Take your time. The three days are not up yet."
[You’re very calm.]
"I have a baby sleeping on my shoulder. I do not have the energy to be anything else."
She carried Auriel to the bassinet and lowered him carefully. He settled without waking, his tiny hands curling near his face.
Lin Yue stretched her arms above her head and looked out the window. The garden was bright, the pond glittering, the spot where Auriel’s tree would be planted still marked with a small stone.
"One thing at a time," she said.
[One thing at a time,] MS repeated.
She smiled and went to wash her face.
Lin Yue was at the bathroom sink, brushing her teeth, when a soft knock came at the bedroom door. She rinsed quickly and opened it to find Mira standing there with a tray.
"Good morning, Madam. I brought food specifically for postpartum and breastfeeding mothers. The kitchen prepared it fresh."
The tray held a bowl of warm porridge, sliced fruit, a small pitcher of what looked like juice, and a covered dish that smelled faintly of herbs.
"Thank you, Mira." Lin Yue took the tray and set it on the small table near the window. Mira nodded and left, closing the door quietly behind her.
Lin Yue sat down and looked at the food. It smelled good, but she hesitated. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
[Be careful,] MS said. [You have not yet gained resistance to most Primus foods. Eat, but do not eat too much. A small portion to test how your body reacts.]
She nodded and took a few spoonfuls of the porridge, then a slice of the fruit. It tasted fine, but she stopped after that, pushing the tray aside.
"Did you find anything new on the accounts?" she asked.
[I have compiled the findings. Sending them to your phone now.]
Her phone, still on the bedside table, buzzed softly.
Luma’s voice, the phone’s assistant, spoke aloud. "New data received. It appears to be extensive. Would you like to enlarge it for easier viewing?"
"Yes," Lin Yue said.
A holographic screen bloomed into the air above her phone, then expanded into a full 360‑degree display. Lin Yue stepped back, startled.
The information surrounded her, names, numbers, dates, transaction logs, all floating in the air like a web she could walk through.
She reached out and touched a name. It highlighted, and a secondary panel opened with more details. She could scroll, delete, correct, annotate. Everything responded to her fingers as if the data were solid.
"This is incredible," she murmured.
[Useful, is it not? I have highlighted the most suspicious patterns in red. The discrepancies cluster around three people, as we suspected. But the trail goes deeper than I initially thought.]
Lin Yue studied the floating information, her eyes moving from one red cluster to another.
The rat was in here somewhere.
She just had to find them.
She looked toward the bassinet, where Auriel still slept peacefully. Then back at the holographic screen.
"Show me everything," she said.
