Invincibility Begins with Mastery of Fist Techniques-Chapter 79: Surprise Attack
"Nacai's missing?"
Back at the villa, Zhou Yuanjue was slightly surprised to hear the news from Lu Ming.
"Well, not exactly missing. I heard he wanted some quiet time alone in his lounge. His assistant waited outside for an hour, but he never came out. When the assistant went to check, Nacai was gone. Can't reach him by phone, either. To protect the fighters' privacy, there are no security cameras inside the lounges or in the hallways, so nobody knows where he went."
Lu Ming said.
"I don't think he's missing. He was probably just crushed by the match," Li Qingxuan guessed, stroking her smooth chin. "I heard he'd never lost a single fight since his debut. It's a normal reaction for a kid who just came of age to want to hide away and be alone after a setback, right?"
"Very likely. With his strength, and inside a lounge at the Ji Po Jue Arena, what could possibly happen? He must have just slipped away on his own."
Lu Ming nodded in agreement.
Zhou Yuanjue, however, furrowed his brow slightly. He felt that something wasn't quite right, but considering Nacai's personality, it did seem plausible.
He shook his head, deciding not to dwell on it. After saying goodbye to Lu Ming and Li Qingxuan, he turned and headed for the training room.
"He just finished a match and he's already running off to the training room. Does he have to work so hard?"
Lu Ming frowned at Zhou Yuanjue's retreating back and whispered to Li Qingxuan beside him.
The days he had spent with Zhou Yuanjue had almost completely upended his understanding of the word "effort."
He had seen plenty of fighters who trained hard—some even for more than ten hours a day—but they were all different from Zhou Yuanjue.
For Zhou Yuanjue, the Martial Dao and training were his entire life.
Beyond that, there seemed to be nothing else.
Before, when he was still a university lecturer, he had other matters tying him down.
But now that he was fully devoted to the Martial Dao, especially after comprehending a recovery technique like the Nirvana Fire, his focus was on a level unimaginable to ordinary people.
"That's why he's so powerful. Perhaps you only see the surface of his strength and overlook the years of unwavering focus and dedication behind it."
"Casting aside the seven emotions, severing the six desires, abandoning life and death... every step he takes is like walking on thin ice. His body may still be in the mortal realm, but his mind has long since ascended above all living beings."
Li Qingxuan said, shaking her head.
"To become extraordinary, one must do extraordinary things. I love the Martial Dao, but I could never abandon this vibrant, colorful mortal world to live like an ascetic monk. It's not just the Martial Dao; I couldn't commit to anything to that degree."
Lu Ming sighed with emotion. He envied Zhou Yuanjue's accomplishments, but he could never become someone like him.
In a way, while his body was still human, his spirit was no longer so.
"That's why you can only be a playboy. But everyone makes their own choices. There's nothing wrong with being a playboy."
Li Qingxuan said with a smile, blinking.
...
...
At that moment, on the rooftop of a tall building not far from Lu Ming's villa, a high-powered telescope was set up.
A very average-looking Caucasian man in a stand-collar casual jacket stood behind the telescope, silently observing everything in the villa.
WHOOSH!!
A black shadow flashed by, and a scholarly-looking Caucasian man with glasses appeared on the rooftop.
"Is the situation clear?"
The man in the stand-collar jacket asked softly without turning around.
"No problems at all. Other than a few ordinary bodyguards, we haven't detected any other threatening units within a one-kilometer radius. As long as we take care of that guy and leave quickly as planned, it'll be foolproof."
The man with glasses said with a smile.
Hearing this, the man in the stand-collar jacket fell silent, seeming to weigh the pros and cons.
"Wells, Nacai's disappearance will draw attention soon. We don't have much time. An outstanding individual like this guy is usually backed by a major sect or power. Even if they come from another city, they'll typically have experts from their sect with them. You won't find another one with such lax security. If we miss this chance, we won't get another one this good."
The man with glasses said calmly.
Wells didn't reply, continuing to stare silently through the high-powered telescope.
"Let's go. We'll make this quick. Even if there are side effects, use your full strength. Don't hold back. Our opponent is no simple foe. I don't want any accidents."
Finally, Wells straightened up from the telescope and spoke slowly.
"No matter how strong he is, he hasn't broken the limit. Once he loses his mental advantage, he's ultimately just an ordinary human."
The man with glasses had a perfectly calm expression.
"Humans... have their limits."
...
...
In the training room, Zhou Yuanjue was replaying his battle with Nacai in his mind.
What had left the deepest impression on him from the entire fight was that abnormal, Evil Ghost-like Spirit.
That Spirit wasn't in harmony with Nacai himself; it was like a specter possessing a human body.
'Legends of ghosts have existed for ages. Is it possible for a pure spiritual body to exist separately from its physical form when a person's Spirit is powerful enough, or under certain special conditions?'
The Daoist Family has a method for "Leaving the Yin Spirit," and Esoteric Buddhism has the so-called "Starlight Body."
Zhou Yuanjue closed his eyes and lit the bright lamp in his heart.
When his Spirit was focused to the absolute limit and emitted a faint golden light, he began to try and control his Spirit, imagining it being drawn out of his body.
But no matter how hard he tried, his Spirit seemed to be trapped in a cage. He couldn't find the feeling of being able to leave his body at all.
He frowned and stopped trying.
The mind is an ethereal thing. To influence reality, it must use the body as a vessel. Even a Heart's Desire Bursting Out must be integrated with the body's functions; otherwise, it is unanchored.
The idea of the mind existing independently of the body seemed to be nonsense.
'If I get the chance in the future, I should ask Nacai directly about the true origin of that abnormal Spirit.'
Zhou Yuanjue retracted his consciousness and gradually entered a state of deep Meditation. The Nirvana Fire burned slowly as his body's instincts took over, rapidly repairing minor damage and restoring his spiritual Power.
HUMMM!!
Suddenly, he felt a strange frequency.
This frequency seemed to be creating a peculiar resonance with his internal organs.
His qi and blood instantly fell into disarray. The violent resonance of his organs caused uncontrollable shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness, and tinnitus.
'This is...?_!_'
Zhou Yuanjue's eyes narrowed. He shot up from the floor and quickly drew his two shortswords from a corner of the training room.
Ever since the attack by the Tianji Sword Sect, he had kept these two shortswords with him whenever he was alone.
The feeling of resonance grew more and more intense, as did the discomfort. If this continued, his internal organs would inevitably be damaged.
'The source is...'
WHOOSH!!
With a fierce slash, Zhou Yuanjue shattered the room's window and rolled out into the villa's courtyard.
On the courtyard lawn, several burly bodyguards in suits lay sprawled on the ground. Two figures were slowly approaching.
They were two Caucasian men. One was shorter, wearing a distinctive black bodysuit that left only his eyes exposed.
The other was taller and dressed in a plain, stand-collar casual jacket. The most striking feature was his neck, where a large bulge like a frog's vocal sac had appeared. The skin was vibrating intensely, seeming to emit some kind of invisible wave.
