Isekai Adventure in the Dimensional Cube-Chapter 1565 - 1087: No Reason to Retreat (Part 2)
Their final objective on this journey was to close that rift.
Reiger took a deep look at that rift, then without hesitation, retracted his gaze.
"What about the Great Saint Palace? We should be able to see it too, right?"
Since they could see the Abyss Gate above the Mistego Palace, the Great Saint Palace, which was said to rival the palace in status, should also be visible by now.
"I see it!" Melo gave a precise answer, pointing in a direction, shouting, "Over there!"
In the direction Melo pointed, the tip of a palace gradually came into view, growing larger as they advanced until the entirety of it appeared before them.
On closer inspection, it was more of a temple than a palace.
It had no dazzling exterior nor sparkling decorations, imbued only with an aura of solemnity, mystery, and antiquity.
Its shape resembled a tower, with many carvings on the outer shell; each pattern was singularly beautiful, and when combined, exuded an artistic sense.
Unfortunately, like the city, the palace was decaying, with many of the patterns damaged, some areas even showing signs of collapse, with bloodstains everywhere and bones scattered about, hinting at the tragic battle that once took place there.
"Roar!"
"Howl!"
As Reiger and his group approached the palace, the abyssal creatures that frantically attacked suddenly stopped advancing, staying on the outskirts, roaring in rage.
However, some abyssal creatures continued their attack.
Without exception, these creatures possessed immense strength, far more formidable and terrifying than typical abyssal creatures.
Reiger keenly sensed that some of these abyssal creatures held extraordinary power.
These few creatures were not only massive in size but also exceptionally grotesque and fearsome.
If his senses were correct, these creatures’ power was second only to the massive black serpent Reiger had once encountered, with few able to rival them among the abyssal creatures he had seen.
"[Jutsushiki jyunten Ao]."
Seeing the few creatures charging at them, Reiger suddenly turned, raised his hand, and unleashed a blue vortex of light.
The vortex started small, just the size of a fist, but as it flew forward, it grew larger until it became a blue-black hole with a diameter of several hundred meters, releasing incredible gravitational force, pulling in damaged buildings, ground debris, and various objects.
"Rumble——"
Countless strands of Abyssal Aura were sucked into the blue vortex, accompanied by the air, making a roaring sound.
The mighty abyssal creatures rushing toward them were caught by the astonishing gravity, struggling fiercely, resisting the vortex’s pull, yet only barely managing to keep from being sucked in.
"Go! Inside!"
Without a backward glance, Reiger held Beluti and rushed into the Great Saint Palace.
Seeing this, Melo and Naisa hurriedly followed, disappearing from outside.
"Roar!"
"Howl!"
"Ugh!"
The abyssal creatures appeared furious, wanting to continue their pursuit.
But before they could act, Reiger’s voice rang out.
"[From darkness it is born, blacker than black, all defilement, be cleansed.]"
With the utterance, an astonishing curse force suddenly appeared above the Great Saint Palace.
The curse force manifested as substantial darkness, like black water from a swamp, descended from mid-air, gradually forming a half-dome curtain, enveloping the Great Saint Palace below.
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
One by one, the abyssal creatures fiercely crashed into the black curtain, causing dull thuds, but they could not destroy the curtain, nor could they see any sight within it.
This only made the creatures more enraged, more frenzied, attacking desperately, causing constant rumbling around the curtain.
As time passed, more abyssal creatures gathered, joining the assault on the curtain.
Yet the curtain remained intact, showing no sign of damage.
...
"Huff... Huff..."
In the dim palace, the sound of the girls’ slight panting rose and fell in the darkness.
"Are we, are we out of danger?"
Beluti had already left Reiger’s arms, casting magic to restore Melo and Naisa’s stamina while speaking tensely, heightening the atmosphere.
"At least we don’t need to worry too much about the things outside."
Beside them, Reiger finished forming a hand seal, completed his incantation, and spoke to the girls.
"I’ve laid a barrier outside that abyssal creatures cannot pass through. Unless a being surpassing a saint appears, breaking through that barrier is practically impossible."
Reiger had naturally set up the common barrier used by Curse Mages—[Curtain].
Though his expertise in barrier techniques didn’t surpass that of Tengen or Knot, with his curse energy output, the [Curtain] he deployed in full force definitely matched their barriers in strength.
So, Reiger confidently told everyone that unless a being surpassing a saint appeared and attacked the [Curtain] with all their might, the abyssal creatures definitely couldn’t breach it.
Of course...
"It’s too soon to say we’re out of danger."
Reiger stated calmly.
"Perhaps now, we are stepping into the real danger."
As he spoke, Reiger activated the magic [Perpetual Light], sending a ball of light into the air to illuminate the surroundings.
The girls maintained tense expressions, scanning the palace interior with their eyes.
This was a spacious hall, but like everything in the city, it appeared dilapidated and ruined, everywhere taking on a scene of crumbling and decay.
The hall also held many bloodstains, yet no bones, as if the bodies had all been weathered away.
But if the bodies had all weathered away, the bloodstains shouldn’t have remained.
Under these circumstances, the silent, decaying palace seemed instead somewhat eerie.
"Are there no abyssal creatures here?"
Melo raised her sword, cautiously scanning back and forth, yet found no trace of enemies.
"There can’t be none, right?" Naisa frowned, speaking in a lowered voice, "Although this is the Great Saint Palace where saviors once lived, since Mistego has fallen, and the palace is in such disrepair, any magic barrier or mechanism should have failed over the long years."
"The abyss despises the saviors to their bones. Knowing this is a saviors’ residence, it surely wouldn’t leave it alone."
"Logically, there should be abyssal creatures here."
Naisa’s words reminded Reiger of the earlier scene.
After they approached within a certain distance, the weaker abyssal creatures dared not come closer, only the powerful ones dared to advance further.
And there were no other abyssal creatures here...
"There’s only one possibility left."
Reiger spoke.
"Something exists here that the weak abyssal creatures fear to approach, something that even the frenzied creatures feel intimidated by."
Just like with the dangerous locations Reiger had discovered before.
In those places, abyssal creatures also wouldn’t draw near.
"So that means..."
The girls held their breath.
"Yes."
Reiger smiled, a smile devoid of much emotion.
"Either this place has become a dangerous forbidden zone."
"Or, it has been occupied by something dangerous enough."
"Or perhaps... both."
Hearing this, the girls’ expressions turned grave.
"Anyway, let’s press forward."
Unchanged in expression, Reiger began to move.
"Now that we’re here, there’s no reason to turn back."
