"You are utterly insane! How could you even think of something like this?"

Walking side by side with this arrogant Hyenakin, my sharp hiss only made her snicker more as she glanced over at me and quietly replied "A few books read here or there gave me the beginning of an idea... and it worked~! Now all we have to do is make it back outside and then voila, we’re back at the Academy~!"

Her fingers were still firmly clasped around my wrist, allowing her to drag me here and there without any issue while also guaranteeing my closeness, which was beginning to wear on me as I had to constantly deal with her... everything.

Taji must have spritzed herself with some perfume since there was this lingering sweetness around her that tickled my nostrils, and her perfectly maintained gear gave her a rather striking appearance past her undeniably handsome - albeit twisted - features.

Her smell, her appearance, her warmth and the way she carried herself... all of it was done up a little and impressive, and all of it was exactly the sort of thing that tended to... tickle my fancy, which was what was making this so hard for me.

Knowing just how insane she was while she looked like this felt like a crime of some sort, something that the Hyenakin was willingly playing into as she constantly toyed with me by sliding all over the line that she herself had drawn for us.

The ’respect’ she showed me whenever we had to climb over an obstacle was clear, yet at the same time she was so quick to grab my ass and cop a feel before resuming the walk, or how she was so swift to say something so demeaning and crude before or after something rather sweet.

It had been like this for an hour and already I was feeling... exhausted, because mentally she was wearing me down and physically I was still recovering, placing me in this odd in between state that she was very capable of navigating however she pleased.

Even with my seldom replies and even though I was trying so hard to not think about it, those touches and especially those kisses were just... far too ’good’ for me to ignore, and being alternated between being ’hot’ and cold was just... exhausting.

That first hour had no more monsters, just quiet, empty tunnels that twisted and turned constantly, leaving me rather confused on how much progress we had made as I tried to mentally map everything out.

"This... surely I hadn’t been passed out for that long..?"

Humming to herself, Taji just glanced at me from the corner of her eye and kept quiet, though when I grit my teeth and asked "Are you drawing this out on purpose..?" she just snickered and shrugged, which was all I needed to know.

"You-!"

She quieted me with a kiss, stealing my lips once more before pulling back and whispering "I have to make the most of this... but if you wish to know, yes, you were out cold for quite a long while, Natalie. So be patient..."

As I went to smack her - or at the very least snarl at her - we both stiffened when we heard the clicking of claws coming towards us, though the accompanying growls were different from before, allowing us to relax somewhat.

There weren’t more Raveners coming our way, just a normal pack of monsters... in a tight tunnel that would give them an advantage if they were any bit stronger than either of us; that was confirmed when a large stone clad bear wandered into our tunnel, its thick snout pressed against the ground as it sniffed every rock.

Filling most of the tunnel, the bear was armored and had deadly weapons adorning its already monstrous paws, making even Taji click her tongue in irritation as she stepped in front of me while quietly drawing her blade.

The movement was almost instinctual on her end, something she did without thinking, and even as she kept her off hand on my stomach to make sure I remained behind her she still occupied the space between the bear and me, something I didn’t expect from her.

When she felt me reaching for my bow she peeked over her shoulder before shrugging again, pushing me back gently and giving herself more space to work with as the bear let out a huff and glared straight at us.

It didn’t roar, didn’t snarl, just... glared, before lumbering forwards and baring its fangs as it prepared to crunch Taji’s bones and leave her crumpled on the cold floor, tearing away the only ’defense’ I had in this place.

Taji just watched it get closer before her body pulsed once with azure light, the glow settling around her as an outline as she prepared herself for battle; as its jaws almost collided with her arm she flickered, suddenly appearing a foot to the right with her blade raised high.

Just like the bear there was no shout coming from her, just cold silence as she swung the blade down towards its neck; twisting itself, the bear took the blade on its stone clad shoulder before attempting to crush her between it and the wall, only for her to flicker again.

Shaking myself out of my reverie, I nocked an arrow and watched as Taji appeared a foot above the bear this time, her blade aimed for its neck once more; as she fell towards it the monster just tensed, halting the metal with a thin casing of rock that promptly shattered around its neck.

With it distracted, I let the arrow grow empowered with Earth Magic of my own, hardening it and blunting the tip before letting it fly straight for the monster’s brow, taking the easiest kill shot of my life.

To make everything ’worse’ the Hyenakin vanished again, reappearing at the monster’s side again and stabbing her now crackling blade into its ribs, right as the arrow slammed against its skull and split open the thick hide and solid stone. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Caught between two attacks its attempt at defense was pathetic, but even with the arrow hitting its mark and Taji stabbing it in the ribs the monster still had some anger fueling it, allowing it to raise itself up one last time as all of its mana began to flow through it freely.
