Chapter 419: Chapter 284: The Theater Performance Begins

Chen Lun was not too concerned about Hoyle’s family struggle.

Even if it involved the top big families of Peacock City, even if Hoyle’s brother was very powerful, in Chen Lun’s view, it was nothing more than a trivial squabble among ordinary people.

If it didn’t disturb him, he couldn’t be bothered to pay attention.

But if it affected his plans, then he wouldn’t mind crushing it casually.

Compared to this, he was more concerned about the whereabouts of three opportunities hidden in Peacock City.

...

After returning to the vineyard.

Chen Lun immediately summoned Golov and two others, giving them another task.

“You go and secretly investigate, starting with the Viscount Harrington and the nobles, which families are behaving abnormally, are involved with the Mystic Realm, make a list for me… Also, you need to find two people, one named ‘Francis,’ a student, and another named ‘Dolim,’ a farmer.”

Chen Lun sat on the sofa in the study, the Silver Staff leaning against his arm.

Looking at the three people before him, he added:

“That student should be studying at Omutuo Academy and boarding in the dormitories, hardly venturing beyond the academy district. But be careful, don’t make too much of a scene, after all, the Omutuo Academy is backed by the Magic Righteous God Church, Madman School…

As for the farmer, he should have his own piece of land just outside Peacock City, typically spending his time farming or trading at a nearby windmill.”

Chen Lun’s fingers rhythmically tapped the Silver Staff, his mind scouring memories of his past life.

The three opportunities originated from a noble, a student, and a farmer in Peacock City, even if due to the advancement of the timeline, he couldn’t be one hundred percent sure that they were currently in their possession.

At the very least, they were related to them.

Chen Lun planned to have Golov and the others investigate, to gather some clues.

“If you find valuable clues, do not make contact rashly, return and report the information to me first.”

“Yes, Leader,” Golov and the others nodded solemnly, understanding.

“Alright, you go prepare,” Chen Lun gestured with his hand.

Golov and the others immediately bowed and left.

A week flew by in the blink of an eye.

The work of Golov, Barton, and Morey was not going smoothly, they had only found two nobles involved with the Mystic Realm, and Chen Lun personally did some probing, but found no trace of the opportunities.

These two noble families had merely made contact with the supernatural forces of the Mystic Realm and had commissioned the Black Knife Brotherhood to assassinate their family enemies.

Although it wasn’t something new, it held no deeper value in Chen Lun’s eyes. Fortunately, at least the two families were ruled out, further narrowing the scope of where the opportunities could be.

As for the student named “Francis,” Golov and the others had not found him; it seemed there was no such person in the academy district at all.

And the farmer “Dolim” was equally fruitless in their search.

There was indeed a farm in the outskirts, owned by someone with that name, but the farmer and his wife had vanished without a trace. Even the livestock on the farm were gone, as if they had moved away long ago.

The results of Golov and his team’s investigation put Chen Lun into deep thought.

‘As for Francis, we can only set that aside for now. As for the farm, I’ve visited it myself, empty, nothing left… This doesn’t match my memories of my previous life.

In theory, it was from that farm that a player had found a mythical book, gaining quite a few benefits. Farmer Dolim should have always been living on the farm, never having left…’

The search for the opportunities was not going smoothly, but he still held out hope.

‘Since the leads on the student and farmer have temporarily broken off, let’s start with finding the opportunities related to the nobility.’

Chen Lun sighed inwardly.

Today was the day of Jack Circus’s performance.

But since almost everyone else in the team was busy with other things, this time it was up to Chen Lun, the Leader, to take the stage himself.

The City Garden Theater began its preparations early, the old entrance even undergoing refurbishment. Even the ticket sellers were a few young and beautiful women, extravagantly dressed.

Because of the intensive promotion and build-up by Hoyle recently, almost everyone in Peacock City knew that an important performance was scheduled today at the City Garden Theater.

Whether or not it would be exciting was unknown, but curiosity was certainly piqued.

Not only were many nobles accompanying their families, but also many busy corporate executives arrived for the weekend, eager to see just what kind of performance it would be and if it was as exaggerated as advertised on the flyers.

In addition, Viscount Harrington’s family also attended the event.

This surprised many people.

The somber middle-aged man was flanked by two women, his wife and daughter, and followed closely by several strong-bodied guards. As his family walked by, people involuntarily stepped aside to make way.

In Peacock City’s upper crust, no one did not know Viscount Harrington. As many dignitaries saw him arrive, they hurried forward to greet him, warmly inquiring after his well-being.

But Viscount Harrington only nodded in response and even wore a stern face as if he saw no one.

The theater owner, Hoyle, personally approached and could not earn a favorable expression from the Viscount.

“Young man of the Simon Family, I hope today’s performance will be as spectacular as you’ve touted… and leave me speechless,” said Viscount Harrington coldly.

Hoyle’s smile was somewhat forced.

He was already aware of the flyer incident, as well as irritated with his subordinates who were pea-brained enough to hire “amateur” promoters and to shout such grossly exaggerated promotional slogans.

Although he explicitly requested to intensify the promotion, he never instructed anyone to use Viscount Harrington and Moses Far Voyage’s reputation.

Such matters could perhaps be excused as commercial hype, but at the same time, they could easily offend people, especially when they involved two of Peacock City’s most influential figures.

Even his father, the helmsman of the Simon Family, Domme Simon, had to act subserviently upon meeting Viscount Harrington.

“I just hope that Mr. Jack’s performance today will be as compelling as when we met that day… Otherwise, this could turn into a huge embarrassment, considering the turnout of so many important figures!”

Hoyle silently wiped away sweat, feeling incredibly tense.

After personally escorting Viscount Harrington to the VIP seats at the very front of the audience, Hoyle returned to the entrance to welcome other dignitaries.

But at that moment, his expression changed subtly and then turned cold.

“Oh my dear little brother, why don’t you greet your big brother, and with such a sour face at that?”

Two men in their thirties approached together, dressed in flamboyant and expensive costumes, with a nonchalant air about them.

Mocking smiles played on their faces.

“Garderson, Lance, what are you two doing here instead of mucking about in your own estates?”

Hoyle asked, frowning.

“Listen to that, such hurtful words! What do you mean mucking about… We’re also working hard, strategizing for our estates. Today, we just wanted to come see you, Hoyle.”

“We heard a new Circus has arrived at your theater with amazing performances, and we’re here to be happy for you… And, of course, to support the event. What? Aren’t we welcome? We did buy tickets, after all. Surely you wouldn’t turn away your guests… That wouldn’t be good business etiquette.”

The two elder brothers bantered, causing Hoyle’s expression to sour even further.

“Then enjoy the show but if you dare to cause a ruckus during the performance, don’t blame me for having security escort you out… That would be embarrassing!”

Hoyle said coldly.

“Hahaha, why would we do that? We’re going to applaud vigorously throughout the show, trust me, Hoyle.”

The two brothers, all smiles and insouciance, strutted in.

Watching their retreating backs, Hoyle felt a bad premonition.

A moment later.

He made his way backstage to find Mr. Jack, who had just emerged from the makeup room.

Upon seeing the young man in a black hat, Hoyle froze in place.

The man’s face, already unrealistically handsome, had been touched by makeup to create an appearance that seemed not of this world.

So handsome!

“Hoyle, what can I do for you?”

Chen Lun asked, holding the Silver Staff lightly in hand, and offered a polite smile.

“Mr. Jack, today’s audience greatly exceeds our expectations, with many important figures in attendance… Even Viscount Harrington and his family have come in person. I’m worried…”

Hoyle took a deep breath, struggling to divert his attention from the young man’s face, and then spoke gravely.

“Don’t feel pressured, Hoyle,”

Chen Lun murmured, patting the young theater owner’s shoulder.

“You must believe in me.”

“Yes.”

Hoyle forced a smile.

The two reached the stage entrance, standing in the dark behind the curtain.

Hoyle suddenly noticed something, his eyes narrowing.

“What is it?”

Chen Lun asked.

“It’s the representatives of ‘Tartar’ and ‘Golden Rum’, they’re here too.”

Hoyle pointed to a corner of the densely packed audience, where a man wrapped in a trench coat and hat sat on each side.

“Dressing up and coming over, they’re likely here to ‘scout the enemy’. Hmph, seems like they can’t stay put either.”

Hoyle chuckled coldly.

Chen Lun glanced at the two men, then shifted his focus away.

Instead, his gaze landed on the Viscount Harrington’s family in the front row of the audience.

‘To find the opportunities hidden among the aristocracy, the best way is to start with someone who’s well-acquainted with the noble circles.’

Chen Lun was pondering how to manipulate Viscount Harrington without drawing the attention of local extraordinary powers.

Watching the crew below the backstage carrying cages, ropes, wooden boxes, and tanks among other Magic Props, Hoyle asked nervously:

“Have they all been checked thoroughly?”

“No issues, Mr. Hoyle, everything has been triple-checked,”

said a crew member, wiping sweat from his brow.

“That puts me at ease.”

Hoyle nodded.

Chen Lun glanced at the Magic Props, his face lighting up with a playful smile.

By then, though, the host had finished warming up the crowd and, to a burst of applause, announced the upcoming performance:

“Please welcome the Leader of the Jack Circus, Mr. Jack himself, to perform an astonishing magic show for everyone!”

“Mr. Jack, I’m counting on you,”

Hoyle whispered earnestly.

Chen Lun nodded with a smile, picking up the Silver Staff and walking towards the stage.

A few prop-carrying crew members looked back toward the dark backstage area where Corvey, the Selena sisters, and the Dwarf Group were hiding. They exchanged looks that were simultaneously meaningful and cheerful.

“Don’t blame me, Hoyle… it’s just that Garderson and Lance have offered too much,”

Corvey thought to himself grimly within the shadows.

Of course, there was also his resentment toward that young Magician.
