I've Become the King of Villains in the Game-Chapter 736 - 460: The Massacre Incident
Chapter 736 -460: The Massacre Incident
Two days passed quickly.
That day, Chen Lun was playing cards with his subordinates in the entertainment room on the first floor of the hotel. In addition to him, the card table hosted Floey, Maggie, and the trio of Golov, Barton, and Morey.
This card game, known as “Fool’s Durak,” originated from the lower echelons of some city and gradually became a craze among the upper classes of major cities, accommodating up to six players.
The specific gameplay required the attacking side to deal cards, with the defending side having to play higher cards to ward off the attack. The loser would have to take all the cards played, and this would continue until someone had no cards left in their hands, thereby emerging the victor. As for the loser, naturally, they would be the “Fool’s Durak.”
At the moment, the six of them formed three pairs, with Chen Lun and Floey as one team, Maggie and Morey as another, and Golov paired with Barton.
The game had reached a crucial stage, with Chen Lun and Floey both down to two cards, just a step away from victory. However, they faced strong opponents in Golov and Barton, who each had only one card remaining.
“Mr. Jack, trust me to play this card. I guarantee Golov won’t be able to beat it,” said Alec, the bard, who was standing behind Chen Lun and Floey, with confidence.
“A viewer should remain silent, Alec, it’s a matter of a gentleman’s quality,” retorted Chen Lun, glancing at Alec, who just shrugged with a playful smile.
“Spades 10.”
Despite his words, Chen Lun followed Alec’s advice and played a card, only to hear Golov chuckle and calmly place his last card on the table.
“Spades Jack.”
Golov casually swept the dozens of Gold Coins from the table into his hands and shared half with his “teammate” Barton.
“Just a bit higher than yours, Leader. We won’t be shy about taking these Gold Coins.”
“Alec, I suggest you start busking out there immediately. There’s a small square just around the corner, perfect for it… then use the money you earn to compensate the Leader. Otherwise, I fear you might die of food poisoning at dinner,” Maggie said jokingly, despite losing the game. She tossed her handful of cards back onto the pile and pointed towards the door.
Alec just shrugged his shoulders.
“Oh, I believe Mr. Jack wouldn’t be so petty, and as for Miss Floey, a noble lady wouldn’t poison food. That would be a Desecration to the art of cooking…”
“Put the poison I gave you last time in his steak, Floey. Add an extra dose to make sure he doesn’t survive,” Chen Lun immediately turned and instructed Floey.
“Hmm.”
Floey smiled serenely, nodding her head in silent agreement.
Alec gasped audibly on the spot.
Everyone burst into laughter.
“You guys carry on, I’m going for a walk,” said Chen Lun, as he stood up from the table, patted Alec on the shoulder with a serious face, and said:
“You better win some more.”
“You underestimate the great Alec, Mr. Jack. With me here, they will lose everything they own,” Alec confidently took Chen Lun’s place at the table and said.
Chen Lun smiled wryly, exchanged a glance with Floey, and then left the entertainment room.
In reality, if he wanted to win at this card game, no one could take even a Copper Kro from him, but that would be too boring. Chen Lun even considered deliberately losing more money to his comrades because consistently giving out large sums as salary made them feel guilty.
After all, Golov and the others had approached him more than once in private, expressing that their abilities were limited and that they couldn’t contribute significantly to the Leader’s cause, feeling undeserving of so much money.
But in Chen Lun’s opinion, once someone had joined his team, they were one of his own… and he was always generous to his own people.
Leaving the hotel and walking through the bustling streets, various vendors pushed carts past him, shouting out their wares amidst the blowing sand. Chen Lun pulled down the brim of his hat and quietly pulled up his panel.
He sighed, his eyes revealing disappointment.
‘It seems this method won’t work…’
Over the past two days, some players had efficiently tracked down the supernaturals on the wanted list and had taken practical measures to assassinate them. But the expected player kill rewards did not share with him as anticipated.
‘Hmm… maybe only tasks related to the main storyline can trigger this sharing mechanism?’
Chen Lun speculated in his mind.
Indeed, this result was expected, as if he could constantly share in the rewards of the killing achieved by players under his command, he would aggressively recruit players. By continuously issuing tasks, he could provoke them to kill and thus gain a massive amount of Experience Points.
Then, if the condition for advancement was met, he could ascend in a moment!
This clearly didn’t fit the rules of the world or game mechanics… Even if he was an anomaly, everything should have an underlying logic; such a “vicious BUG” was unlikely to exist.
That was Chen Lun’s understanding.
“Sir, would you like to buy some cigarettes? Buy two packs and I’ll give you a box of matches for free,” said a raggedly dressed newsboy who had stopped in front of him, cautiously asking with a childlike voice.
Chen Lun glanced down at the boy. The newsboy couldn’t even afford the cheapest hat, sporting malnourished, withered yellow hair, exposed to the sun, with his skin presenting an unhealthy darkening.
