Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 621 - 620: At an Impasse
"Why do you want to leave just after eating? Otherwise, Goddess Nuwa, wait a bit longer, I have milk tea here. I can make you a large cup of milk tea with taro balls that you like?" Sun Wukong said, still thinking about setting Nuwa up with Chen Nuo, but he hadn’t expected Nuwa to want to leave so soon.
"No need," Nuwa replied.
Under normal circumstances, Nuwa would have agreed, not just to stay a little longer, but also for the sake of the milk tea, she would have chosen to wait.
Unfortunately, she had just eaten crawfish and had drunk a large beer, full of beer gas; drinking a cup and adding the gas felt like she had drunk two cups.
She still wanted to drink milk tea, but sadly, her stomach capacity couldn’t handle it.
She wasn’t insatiable. If her stomach capacity was inappropriate, she naturally wouldn’t demean herself for a cup of milk tea she couldn’t finish.
"Why is it so strange today?" Sun Wukong also felt surprised, "Usually, without me saying anything, Goddess Nuwa would choose to wait a while longer for milk tea. What happened today? You’re even refusing your favorite milk tea."
"Can you eat something else right after you’ve just had a meal?" Chen Nuo scolded from behind.
This was also a way of supporting Nuwa. Sun Wukong thought about having Nuwa stay at Chaos Residence a bit longer, but the person in question had already refused twice, and her gaze was constantly directed outside, indicating she really wanted to leave. Regardless of how much Sun Wukong said, it would be useless, and it would only make him the butt of jokes.
"I just wanted Goddess Nuwa to stay in the shop for a bit longer," Sun Wukong said, scratching his head.
Usually, Nuwa would indeed wait a little longer, but now Goddess Nuwa had unexpectedly refused the milk tea, which was quite odd.
"I have already troubled Shopkeeper Chen for quite some time, it would not be proper to impose any further," Nuwa said.
Chen Nuo glanced at Sun Wukong, intending to scold him for being insensitive, but Nuwa spoke first, so the words Chen Nuo wanted to say to chastise Sun Wukong went unsaid.
"Well, alright then," Sun Wukong said, finally noticing that Nuwa truly had no intention of staying longer at Chaos Residence and therefore did not push her to wait any longer.
He was somewhat puzzled, wondering what his master had said to Nuwa inside. When she arrived, she was in high spirits, but now she was hastily saying she wanted to go back.
"Safe travels," Chen Nuo said.
"Alright," Nuwa replied, turning to glance at Chen Nuo to bid him farewell. She had intended to leave by casting a spell but suddenly thought of something and said to Chen Nuo, "Shopkeeper Chen, you canceled my reservation before, right? When you are dealing with it again, cancel my reservation please, today’s meal I scrounged can be considered a settlement for it."
"I can’t do that," Chen Nuo refused, "That’s two different things."
"How are they two different things? My original reservation was to have a meal, and since I’ve already eaten today, that reservation should be considered settled."
Nuwa didn’t plan to come to Chaos Residence for a short while, she needed to digest the incident with the chair before she could return to the restaurant to eat.
"Of course, they’re different. The original reservation was made with your payment, and since you’ve already paid, that reservation must be honored."
"Moreover, this meal was because Lady Nuwa, you helped me, it was a meal to thank you for your efforts, I really can’t muddle the two, you needn’t say more, the reservation can’t be canceled."
These matters needed to be settled clearly, Shopkeeper Chen still had his principles.
"Shopkeeper Chen, there really is no need, I didn’t actually help with anything today," Nuwa said.
Nuwa recalled that she hadn’t actually assisted with anything, just followed Chen Nuo around the back mountain and the mortal realm, not doing anything else.
"I say you helped, so you helped," Chen Nuo was being stubborn now.
Lady Nuwa indeed had not been of much help, but in Chen Nuo’s heart, Lady Nuwa had already become a friend.
Since they were friends, sometimes there was no need to be so exacting.
"Shopkeeper Chen," Lady Nuwa said with a helpless smile, then lowered her voice a bit. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"With so many Immortal Officials present, do you really want to argue with me over such a trivial matter, and let others laugh at us for no reason?"
"There’s definitely no need for that either," Chen Nuo responded. "After all, this is outside of Chaos Residence; I’m sure these Immortal Officials are more curious about someone else, and there’s no need for me to spell it out, right?"
What Chen Nuo said wasn’t wrong at all. Lady Nuwa lifted her chin and glanced at the queue of Immortal Officials; indeed, their gazes toward her were more inquisitive.
But if Lady Nuwa cared about others’ gazes, she wouldn’t be Lady Nuwa.
She then said to Chen Nuo, "Then there’s even less reason to fuss about it, Shopkeeper Chen. It’s just the cost of a meal; you won’t make much from it, and besides, I didn’t lose anything either."
Indeed, it wasn’t anything significant, but both of them held their own status, and neither was quibbling over such a small amount of money over principle.
For Chen Nuo, it was a matter of principle, while for Lady Nuwa, it was about regaining a bit of her dignity.
If this matter were to be dissected, the issue of principle would take precedence over face-saving.
Both were at a stand-off, just standing at the entrance of Chaos Residence. The Immortal Officials lining up to buy bubble tea instantly felt a formless pressure overhead.
The authority of Goddess Nuwa was there, and no one dared to look directly at the two figures; those who originally intended to queue for bubble tea, upon seeing Goddess Nuwa at the entrance, didn’t even dare to pause but pretended to pass by and left.
The queue at the bubble tea shop’s entrance was getting smaller and smaller, until the last person buying bubble tea left, and the two still hadn’t argued out a conclusion.
Sun Wukong and Tian Peng exchanged glances, unclear what the contentious point was between them; they were actually able to continue the argument over a simple meal.
They say the onlooker sees most of the game, and both Sun Wukong and Tian Peng could tell, the atmosphere between Chen Nuo and Lady Nuwa had changed.
Originally, their interactions were like those of strangers, and the only connection was through sharing a meal. Once the meal was over, they instantly reverted to their previous states, as if measured by a ruler, with a very clear demarcation.
But now it was different. The atmosphere between the two had blended, and although not much, since it had blended, it could no longer be clearly separated.
"Mr. Monkey, if the shopkeeper and Lady Nuwa stay here, it seems like it will affect business, right?" Tian Peng spoke up.
Sun Wukong was not unaware of the impact on business. What was once a bustling shop was now avoided by even the birds sensing the tense atmosphere; nothing was left at the entrance but those two, locked in a stand-off.
The mood even affected Tian Peng and Sun Wukong. Tian Peng felt uncomfortable all over and wanted to leave but felt it was impolite to go.
In a subdued voice, he suggested to Sun Wukong, "Mr. Monkey, should we perhaps intervene? It’s just a matter of a meal, after all. A little compromise from both sides would settle this. How can Shopkeeper and Goddess Nuwa have been so persistent for so long?"
This was not simply a matter of a meal. If they were still deadlocked here, the primary reason was over that small concession. The question was who would concede first, and how big the concession would be.
"Since you’re troubled by it, why don’t you handle it then?" Sun Wukong suggested.
Tian Peng shrank back and shook his head; he really did not want to get involved in such matters.
