Chapter 44: First Infection

In her 48+ hours in the city, Anna didn’t find anything she was looking for... Be it zombies or level 2 animals, much less the so-called cannibals. But she noticed that in these 48 hours, her encounters with red-eyed creatures became more frequent...

It was a pattern; the zombies that seemed to be more instinctive and had red eyes were evolving. For the surviving humans, this was extremely bad news. If what she was looking for now was an even more intelligent zombie, then all the Jyreans were in trouble. It was then that she remembered the skill called crystal extraction. After easily killing a few zombies, Anna finally did some experiments and managed to extract these crystals.

Not only that, after a quick autopsy on one of the level 1 corpses, she also discovered that they had these crystals inside their bodies near the heart. Now with her new race, the knowledge of crystals, and all the information she had. Anna finally began to put together all the pieces she needed to better understand everything...

Her goal was to change her race using Symbiosis, and then use Infection to transform more humans into variants of her zombie race. Which were invisible to the eyes of these monsters... But there was still something she had to take into consideration. She had sacrificed something called the Universal Force to obtain these races, and when she transformed someone, would that person lose that too? And what would she gain in return? An even weaker version of Anna’s Race?

That wasn’t all. If the zombies were also evolving and becoming more intelligent, would this camouflage of her new race still work?

Taking out a mirror from her bracelet, Anna observed her appearance. She still had the same pale white skin, and her hair was also still blonde... But her eyes had lost their previous blue and were now red, the color of zombies and mutants. And when she opened her mouth, it was possible to see the same black saliva that they all had...

She needed to test if her bite was also lethal to humans, otherwise even a simple kiss could infect someone... Anna blushed for a second when she thought about something so intimate... And she shook her head, returning to the problems and doubts she had... She should find a group of humans; she had seen some of them in the last 48 hours, but she never approached or tried to contact them. After all, she preferred to be alone since she had difficulty socializing with other people...

"It seems I was too late..." Anna thought, but soon changed her mind and decided to do another test...

Approaching the man who was already on his knees and sweating cold, Anna saw that he looked at her one last time before losing consciousness and falling back on the ground... She then approached him carefully and activated Contagion.

Anna listened to everything and spent almost a whole day with Marco, before finally asking him for help to complete her remaining missions, and to understand more details about her abilities and current condition, which was now also Marco’s current condition...

"I need to do a lot of things in Jyera, and my time is limited. I plan to go back to the space station, see if anyone is still alive there, if possible, get more answers... Also, if what you said about the people of Jyor being exterminated by the animals, then they are in urgent need of help... So... Are you willing to help me?
