Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!-Chapter 2170: Prop in the Eyeball
Xu Huo was carried to the bed. The town team members mentioned by the previous speaker arrived quickly, but due to the fact that mushrooms covered his body, they dared not touch him rashly. Therefore, they could only roughly record his height and appearance, and then arranged for a doctor to examine him.
The old doctor, wearing a noticeably better protective suit than the others, selectively performed the examination, and then said to everyone, "He has a broken arm and leg, and his ribs look bad. If he fell from a high place, he’s likely injured. However, that’s not a big issue; it’ll heal after some time. The problem is the abundance of mushrooms growing on him. His flesh and blood have become a breeding ground. The medicine in our town can only remove part of it; some mushrooms grow quickly and releasing their toxins can only be avoided by pulling them directly with medicine from elsewhere."
"Is the medicine expensive?" asked the young man who first found Xu Huo.
The old doctor paused, "Expensive, of course. Do you really want to save him? Even if you find the medicine, he might not live for more than a few days."
"A Hai thinks this person is a Player," someone else said, "He’s been in the grove for several days now; an average person would have already died from the toxins. He’s still alive, so he must be different from us."
Hearing this, the old doctor sighed, "A life is still a life. I will contact someone to buy the medicine for you, but you’ll need to pay upfront since cash transactions are required."
The young man, A Hai, happily took out his savings, "In a small place like this, it’s not likely he’s anything other than a Player. Once he’s revived, I’ll ask him to repay the medicine money."
This seemed reasonable, and the others didn’t persuade him further, only advising him not to stay with Xu Huo for too long, and to keep the room where he stayed tightly closed to prevent any poisonous mushrooms from drifting out. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
A Hai agreed to this, then thanked everyone and saw them out, also giving some mountain goods he had collected to those who helped carry Xu Huo back.
Once everyone was gone, he went to the kitchen to make some soup to feed Xu Huo. Seeing him drink it made A Hai particularly happy, and he circled the bed twice before whispering, "Please let him be a good person."
The small town was pretty good, with complete living facilities and simple folks. Since it was far from the big city, apart from some cargo trucks coming and going, no outsiders typically visited. The people there all knew each other. Upon knowing that there’s an outsider at A Hai’s home, many had already come to "take a look," even though Xu Huo still had mushrooms growing all over him.
But with more people coming here, Xu Huo noticed some odd things about the town.
Firstly, there were children in the town, but they called the men taking care of them "mom." Within "couples," the "wives" appeared slightly delicate but leaned more towards male traits from their appearance and physical features. There were hardly any women with distinctly feminine characteristics.
Secondly, emotions in the town were unusual. Even children’s emotions were very stable. Occasional bickering appeared intimate, as if everyone in the town was family. The town had nearly a thousand households, which was abnormal.
After the battle with Dou Shengnan, Xu Huo was mentally traumatized, almost unable to successfully project the Spiritual World. Most of the information he got was from those who came to "visit" him. The town had contact with the outside world, thus clearly knowing the distinctions of "male" and "female" in the outer world. However, in conversations, they didn’t feel there was anything peculiar about the town people’s state, whether it was due to being accustomed or some other reason was unclear.
After taking the medicine, the mushrooms on Xu Huo fell off substantially in two days, but many mycelia continued growing under the skin. The old doctor speculated that his prolonged unconsciousness was due to these mycelia not being completely removed. Thus, when not cooking or cleaning during the day, A Hai sat by the bed most of the time, picking out the mycelia from Xu Huo’s body.
As long as no more fungi parasites proliferate, the King Fungus will eventually fully consume the fungi. Besides the broken arm and leg, Xu Huo also had three broken ribs. Just one day after arriving here, he regained some feeling in his right hand, supplemented with a handful of potions though weakness persisted, preventing sitting up. Most of the time, he was in a stupor from severe brain injury.
After about five days, he could stay awake for extended periods, and he contacted Nie Xuan through the game.
Nie Xuan had reached out to him more than once, updating him with news concerning him.
From Chongming Bird’s end, Dou Shengnan indeed escaped, alongside her companion, whose whereabouts remained unknown. His matters were untouched as he couldn’t take them, currently held in safekeeping by Dr. Dian. Li Chun was staying at Dr. Dian’s home as well.
Moreover, the Special Defense Department became aware of the detailed combat process. To stave off unnecessary trouble, Nie Xuan returned to Zone 014 after waiting at Chongming Bird for a week without informing others of Li Chun.
Xu Huo wasn’t surprised by the Special Defense Department’s probe. He didn’t hide his Temporal Evolution, assuming those in the department were inquisitive about the extent of his Evolution, which wasn’t an immediate concern.
What slightly perplexed him was Dr. Dian’s ability to keep the "Time Tower" at Chongming Bird Pharmaceuticals for such an extended period, contrary to his prediction.
Yet, given that more than ten days had passed without retrieving the "Time Tower," urgency seemed unnecessary.
He messaged Nie Xuan, informing him of his safety, though his injuries required time to recuperate. He also found something for the Special Defense Department to handle, requesting them to gather some new potions, ideally including a few Passive Defense props and instruments, considering his immobility.
Communicating through Nie Xuan, the Special Defense Department responded promptly, sending the requested items through Beneath the Dimension. Most were Evolver-specific nutrient supplements, and they officially expressed gratitude for his sacrifices, stating his contributions would be acknowledged, advising him to rest well. If his injuries healed too slowly to join an instance, a walkthrough could be provided, with arrangements for passage protection, starting at Rank-A minimum.
Regarding the instance, Xu Huo recalled the pre-Black Vortex instance notification. It was such a coincidence that the "Stolen Declaration" was sabotaged, as if it happened precisely at their confrontation site with Dou Shengnan. If this wasn’t accidental, perhaps someone intended to lend him a hand.
Not many knew about his involvement in the "Stolen Declaration" instance; thus, pinpointing an answer would be straightforward, but this wasn’t a matter to pursue at present.
His central concern remained on Dou Shengnan’s whereabouts.
He checked both the bounty platform and Beneath the Dimension, disappointed to find no news of Dou Shengnan besides the encounter at Chongming Bird, and even the current situation of the Guile Sound Knights went unknown.
People most likely haven’t died.
From his luggage, Xu Huo retrieved a transparent bead the size of a flat bean, made from the same material as Dou Shengnan’s self-rescue’s transparent heart and the phalanges that attacked him, concealed within Dou Shengnan’s eye.
