Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Using Arrows Like Rockets

Once the team was in position, Romon immediately gave the command.

Mayus and Pir raised their shields and charged forward, startling the slumbering Flower Demon Queen. Her flower bud suddenly split open like a demonic maw, revealing the true form of the boss hidden within.

It was a naked humanoid body, the chest and lower regions eerily lifelike. But a plant is still a plant—its too-realistic mimicry was downright unsettling, sending chills down everyone’s spines. No one was in the mood to admire that body; they all just wanted to smash it to pieces as quickly as possible.

"Whoosh—"

"Zap—"

A golden arrow and a blue magical beam shot out from two directions at once, striking the Flower Demon Queen’s torso. In an instant, golden lightning and pure magical energy erupted in a violent blast!

Boom

The shockwave was so strong that even Pir and Mayus in the front line were forced to take half a step back.

The Flower Demon Queen’s aggro was immediately drawn to the golden arrow’s owner—the elven queen, Akalaisi.

"Raaawr!!!"

She opened her mouth wide; the toothless maw was pitch-black inside, unleashing a shriek so piercing it could rupture a mortal’s eardrums.

Akalaisi, however, was unfazed. Calmly, she nocked another arrow to her bow, preparing for a second shot. She kept Romon’s reminder in mind: don’t get greedy, match your attack rhythm with Talia on the opposite flank.

After seeing Akalaisi’s power, Talia immediately dropped her earlier arrogance and went all out.

Talia’s rapid-fire magic came in many forms—different power levels for different targets and situations. To keep up with Akalaisi’s output, she set her staff to max power, gripping the silver-white shaft with both hands. Gathering all her magical energy, she fired off a beam as thick as a barrel!

Seeing this, Akalaisi immediately let loose her bowstring, and another arrow wrapped in golden lightning shot out with a crack.

The two attacks landed on the Flower Demon Queen in quick succession. This time, Talia’s firepower just managed to match Akalaisi’s. The boss glanced over at Talia, torn between targets, but was abruptly smashed in the face by a heavy shield bash from Mayus in the front line.

Thud—

A dull thump sounded as the Flower Demon Queen saw stars, momentarily dazed.

Seizing the moment, Romon took the lead—he swept his right hand forward, and a [Blast] spell exploded against the boss.

The other DPS followed suit, throwing their skills at the Flower Demon Queen and pinning her in place.

At that moment, Akalaisi leapt into the air, her entire body wrapped in golden lightning. Even her bowstring had transformed into a whip of raging electricity. She drew her bow to its limit, and the arrow in her hand swelled in size, turning into a thunderous spear of pure lightning.

CRACK-BOOM!!!

Suddenly, thunder rumbled throughout the entire boss chamber. Amid the deafening roar, Akalaisi released her bowstring. The golden lightning spear, which her arrow had transformed into, shot forward with unstoppable force, piercing straight through the Flower Demon Queen’s torso.

The Flower Demon Queen convulsed in agony, snapping out of her stupor in an instant. But the lightning didn’t just burn a hole through her body—it also left her paralyzed and numb.

All she could do was glare furiously at Akalaisi. Drawing on her willpower, she manipulated the surrounding trees, commanding them to twist and strangle Akalaisi.

Romon immediately realized what was happening—this had to be the boss’s hidden skill.

In the past, no team had ever forced the Flower Demon Queen into such a desperate situation, so the boss had never revealed this ability before.

But now, after just three attacks from the elven queen Akalaisi, the boss was forced to go all out.

That was the queen’s true power! Even though she hadn’t fully recovered her strength, her attacks were this terrifying.

If that last strike had hit anyone else present, they’d be dead beyond saving. But the Flower Demon Queen, after taking the hit, not only survived but launched herself at Akalaisi with full fury.

Right then, Akalaisi was still recovering from her last attack—her body not at its peak, her steps a little unsteady.

She instinctively dodged a couple steps to the side, staggering and nearly falling over.

Seeing this, Romon didn’t dare hesitate. He’d already prepared countermeasures for the boss’s likely hidden abilities.

[Self-Combustion]—this was a new spell he’d copied down just last night. Since the target was called the Flower Demon Queen, he’d guessed that flower-type monsters would be weak to fire, and fire attacks would be especially effective.

So, he’d copied several pages of fire spells just in case.

Now, with a thought, his spellbook flipped open to the [Self-Combustion] incantation. Romon swept his right hand, and the wooden spikes reaching for Akalaisi instantly burst into a sea of flames!

Not stopping there, he kept turning pages, casting [Self-Combustion] again and again, setting the entire shadowy forest environment of the boss room ablaze!

With flames raging on all sides, the Flower Demon Queen at the center was clearly weakened. She could no longer control her minions and immediately descended into a frenzy.

Just then, amidst the roaring firelight, two curved blades flashed through her roots. In a split second, her raging energy leaked out like air from a punctured balloon, dissipating into the earth.

"Raaah! Aaaaah! Ahhh—!"

Losing the two roots that connected her to the leylines, the Flower Demon Queen let out a shriek like a madwoman.

Instantly, the ground beneath the room began to tremble. The burning trees transformed, coming alive. Their charred trunks opened like the mouths of monstrous lampreys, snapping shut across the entire room!

"Area attack?! Goddammit!"

"Fall back, now!"

No one expected that, at the very brink of defeat, the Flower Demon Queen would unleash a move that would destroy both herself and her enemies.

It wouldn’t matter if she died—the labyrinth’s boss could always revive—but any casualties on their side would be disastrous.

So even with victory just within reach, Romon made the swift decision to abandon the fight in order to preserve the team’s strength.

The moment he gave the order, it didn’t matter who was still hesitating—everyone had to retreat at once.

The two centaurs bolted at lightning speed. Mayus and Golden Stone weren’t far behind, and Janice, who was closest to Princess Angelia, hauled her out with one arm.

That left only the two main damage dealers—Talia and Akalaisi—who were positioned further away.

Because they were stationed at the far corners of the room, and the Flower Demon Queen’s attack began its deadly sweep from the edges, the ground trembled even more violently at the perimeter, making it nearly impossible to keep their footing.

Talia barely managed to lift herself into the air with a simple levitation spell, escaping in the nick of time. But Akalaisi, whose steps were already unsteady, was quickly knocked off her feet by the shaking ground and fell hard.

She was about to be swallowed by the flaming, fang-like trees when suddenly, a dark blur shot across the room. Those long, supple, yet powerful legs burst forth with feline speed.

In a single heartbeat, the cat-eared Nini swept Akalaisi up and carried her to safety.

Only then did Romon finally breathe a deep sigh of relief.

If they’d lost Akalaisi, he couldn’t even imagine the consequences.

"Akalaisi..." Romon stepped forward, about to help support her out of the room.

But just as he reached out to her, Akalaisi spoke: "Lord Romon, please lend me a Magic Crystal. I want to deliver the final blow to that monster."

"Don’t overdo it," Romon warned.

"I can feel its life force fading back into nature—it’s only one hit away from death!"

Hearing that, and with chaos all around, Romon didn’t hesitate. He immediately pulled out a highly purified Magic Crystal and quickly slipped it into Akalaisi’s mouth.

His fingers inadvertently brushed her soft, moist lips—a fleeting, gentle sensation.

Crunch—

Akalaisi didn’t wait for the Magic Crystal to dissolve. She simply crushed it between her pearly teeth and swallowed it down.

The surge of power from the Magic Crystal restored her strength. She steadied herself, drew her bow, and nocked another arrow.

This time, she didn’t leap into the air, and there was no violent golden lightning swirling around her.

But this time, her presence was overwhelming—so much so that not even the other nine could look directly at her. In that moment, it was as if she had distilled a lifetime of skill and power into a single arrow. The dazzling, oppressive aura radiating from her was like the midday sun.

"Boom!"

The moment she released the arrow, the earth beneath her feet fractured inch by inch, spreading out like a spiderweb.

Though the arrow carried no trace of lightning, it pierced through the curtain of flames and tore past the tangling vines by sheer force alone, flying straight and true until it struck the Flower Demon Queen right in the forehead, far across the chamber!

Because Akalaisi had poured so much power into this single shot, the arrow couldn’t withstand the impact—it shattered instantly upon hitting its mark. In the same instant, the Flower Demon Queen’s head exploded as well.

CRACK!

With that explosive sound, the trembling ground fell still, and the monstrous forest, its jaws closing halfway, collapsed with a thunderous crash.

Everyone raised their sleeves to shield their faces from the cloud of dust kicked up by the collapse.

"Did we do it?"

"Lord Romon, we did it!" Talia’s excited voice came from somewhere within the swirling dust.

Romon couldn’t even see where she was, only heard her voice getting farther away as she ran toward the Flower Demon Queen’s corpse.

Time passed.

At last, the dust settled.

The team, now covered head to toe in dirt, looked around as Romon focused his gaze. He saw Talia and Nini deep in discussion, trying to figure out the best angle to cut out the Flower Demon Queen’s heart.

Akalaisi, meanwhile, had slumped into Janice’s arms as Janice tended to her wounds.

The two Centaur brothers stood stiffly nearby, especially Pito. As a fellow archer, seeing Akalaisi now was like a mayfly gazing up at the sky.

While he was still obsessed with precision, Akalaisi was already firing arrows like they were artillery shells.

"How is she?" Romon asked.

"Don’t worry, Lord," Janice replied. "She’s only exhausted—her injuries haven’t gotten any worse."

"Good, that’s a relief."

Just then, Talia came running over, holding up something the size of a green bean.

"I got it! I got it! This is the Flower Demon Queen’s Heart!" she exclaimed excitedly.

Romon looked at the tiny object in her hand. It was even smaller than an ordinary Heart of Flower Demon. Could something so small really possess such great power?
