Chapter 64: Chapter 64: I Swear I’ll Never Be Impulsive Again
"Please put it away for now, my lord. It’s best to wait until Akalaisi wakes up before using it," Janice reminded him gently.
Romon took her advice seriously. He handed the Flower Demon Queen’s Heart to Talia for safekeeping, then gave an order to the group: "Let’s head out for now."
"Wait, my lord—there’s a treasure chest over there. I think you should be the one to open it," Talia said, pointing toward the Flower Demon Queen’s corpse.
"A treasure chest?"
His magic book had come from a treasure chest once before. It wasn’t invincible, but it had certainly helped him a great deal.
He walked forward.
Sure enough, now that the Flower Demon Queen was dead, a chest had appeared next to her.
This chest was different from the ornate ones they’d seen before. It looked plain, and the material was almost see-through.
Romon opened it slowly. Inside, lying quietly at the bottom, was a perfectly clear orb about twenty centimeters in diameter.
There was nothing else in the chest.
"What’s this?"
Romon reached in and picked up the orb. It was so light, he could barely feel its weight in his hand.
"My lord, that’s a top-quality magic orb! You can use it to forge a staff. If you combine it with the best staff materials, you could make the strongest staff in all of Stone Town!" Golden Stone exclaimed, clearly recognizing its value.
"A staff..."
Romon glanced at the silver staff in Talia’s hand. The orb at its tip was only the size of an egg.
But for him, a staff was unnecessary—he needed his left hand to hold his spellbook and his right to cast spells.
Besides, he was always on the move, sometimes fighting without warning. There was no way he could lug around such a large staff.
So, he tossed the magic orb to Talia.
"It’s yours."
"Eh?" Talia watched the huge orb arc through the air, hurriedly dropped her silver staff, and caught it carefully with both hands. "Th-this... for me? My lord, you’re... you’re far too generous!"
Talia was so excited she nearly jumped for joy. She loved adventuring, and what made adventures truly wonderful was the thrill of unexpected rewards.
Sometimes, even if the reward wasn’t hers, she’d feel happy just to witness it.
But this time, Romon not only let her experience the thrill of an official, guided adventure, he even gifted her the treasure from the chest!
Such kindness—she swore she could never repay it, not even in another lifetime!
"Mayus, you and the others check the battlefield for anything we missed. I’ll take Akalaisi outside first."
With that, he picked up the unconscious Akalaisi.
Leaving the boss room with him were Romon, Angelia, Talia, Nini, and the Centaur brothers.
Mayus, Golden Stone, and Janice stayed behind to search for any more loot.
In fact, for such a powerful boss on the third floor, there were definitely more loot drops after its death. But Romon deliberately resisted the urge to be greedy, leaving the cleanup to his subordinates.
Letting them reap the rewards would put their minds at ease; otherwise, if they risked their lives for nothing, there would certainly be discontent.
...
Romon carried Akalaisi back to the castle.
As soon as they reached the gates, she began to stir. The elven maidens standing guard around the castle hurried over, concern written all over their faces when they saw their queen covered in dirt. Each of them wondered what on earth had happened.
But Romon didn’t give them a chance to ask questions. From a distance, he called out, "Go heat some water! Your queen needs a bath—and so do I."
As Lord, he couldn’t appear disheveled. That earthquake had left everyone caked in dust from head to toe.
"Lord Romon, please let me down. I’ve recovered my strength," Akalaisi said softly, a little embarrassed.
Romon set her down. If her body hadn’t been so flexible, he would’ve had Talia transport her with a levitation spell long ago.
"Janice said you’re lucky your injuries didn’t worsen this time—otherwise it could’ve been dangerous. I warned everyone beforehand: no grandstanding, no acting on impulse, but you still didn’t take it to heart," Romon said.
"I’m sorry, Lord Romon. I just wanted to get the Flower Demon Queen’s Heart to help you as soon as possible," Akalaisi admitted, recognizing her mistake.
If not for Romon’s magic countering the boss, she would have died in the first attack.
If Nini hadn’t been quick enough, that would’ve been her second death.
Her final arrow had relied on the Magic Crystal just to keep her going. In truth, she’d left herself no way out—completely disregarding the pre-battle instructions.
If she were just a friend, a joke could have brushed aside the matter. But as a subordinate, even in victory, such a breach of discipline was serious.
"Akalaisi, don’t let this happen again."
"I’m sorry, my lord. I swear I’ll never be reckless again."
"All right, go get cleaned up. Janice said you can use the Flower Demon Queen’s Heart once you’ve woken up."
As he spoke, Romon took the tiny green bean from Talia and carefully placed it in Akalaisi’s palm.
The thing was so small that if it dropped on the floor, it’d be impossible to find.
Akalaisi didn’t hesitate—she tilted her head back and swallowed it on the spot. The tiny Heart entered her body, and she immediately felt a surge of mana spreading through her, sending energy to her organs and limbs.
Feeling a little feverish, she quickly said, "My lord, I’ll excuse myself to freshen up first."
With that, she hurried off to her bedroom.
"I should wash up too," Romon said, brushing the dust from his sleeves. Standing in the breeze on the hillside, he looked as if he’d just crawled out of a hole in the ground.
Hot water was in short supply in the castle. It was all heated by hand, one cauldron at a time; to fully wash a grown person required at least two pots of hot water mixed with plenty of cold.
Romon lay on the floor of the master bedroom, waiting for a long time before Lornis finally finished adjusting the water temperature in the bath barrel.
"My lord Romon, you can rinse off first. I’ll go to the kitchen and heat more water for the others," Lornis said as she walked out of the master bedroom.
"Sigh, this old castle of mine... I really need to get myself a new house. I can’t even have a proper bathtub," Romon couldn’t help but sigh. He wasn’t sure if he was the youngest Lord, but he was definitely the most impoverished Lord in the world. He lived in a dilapidated old castle, bathed in a barrel he’d built himself. While other lords enjoyed massages and hot springs attended by beautiful women, he was stuck scrubbing himself alone in his main bedroom.
"Sigh, forget it. Upgrading my third-generation machine will cost a fortune..."
Thinking it over, Romon gave up on the idea of a new house after cleaning himself up.
He lay on the bed for a short rest.
Suddenly, there was a gentle knock at the master bedroom door. Romon assumed it was Lornis, so without looking, he called, "Come in."
The door opened.
But it wasn’t Lornis—it was Akalaisi, wrapped in a bath towel. Her fair skin was tinged pink from the hot bath, and her emerald eyes shimmered with a watery allure.
"Lornis, why—" Romon heard the unfamiliar footsteps and looked up. Only then did he realize it wasn’t Lornis. "Akalaisi? What are you doing here?"
Although he did desire Akalaisi, this was so sudden that he was caught off guard.
"Sorry, Lord Romon. Princess Angelia temporarily requisitioned my room and told me to wait here," Akalaisi replied, her voice growing softer and softer. By the time she finished, her full, shapely thighs were already shifting restlessly.
She was no naïve elven maiden, but a mature descendant of the high elves, well into her breeding season. The urge to fulfill her race’s destiny was etched into her very being—yet she’d never found a suitable mate.
Romon’s nightly passion with Angelia had long stirred thoughts in Akalaisi’s heart.
Now, Princess Angelia had forcefully sent her here.
Hearing this, Romon frowned. Angelia possessed a purification artifact—she didn’t even need to bathe. And from what he knew of her, unless she was in an out-of-control state, she would never act so domineering and willful.
Could it be... she’d suddenly been influenced by a demon again?
Romon hurriedly got up, ready to check on her, but through the crack of the door he caught a glimpse of Angelia’s figure. She was standing outside, facing Romon, her right index finger pointed straight at him through the gap, as if to say: Just try coming out.
Seeing she was fine, Romon breathed a sigh of relief. As long as she was all right, he didn’t care about anything else.
Only then did he realize: Princess Angelia’s sudden display of temper was likely because she’d noticed Akalaisi had regained her strength.
Though the elf queen was living under someone else’s roof, a queen was still a queen. She’d even gone against direct orders multiple times during the dungeon operation. If she returned to her peak, who knew what would happen?
So, Angelia made her move—she wanted to show Akalaisi who was really in charge.
Here, the Lord could strip the elves of their lodging at any time.
Thinking of this, Romon couldn’t help but give Princess Angelia a thumbs-up through the door.
Only then did Angelia leave, satisfied.
"Stay put," Romon instructed Akalaisi.
"Yes..." Akalaisi quietly moved closer to Romon, standing at his side.
Feeling the warmth radiating from beneath her towel, Romon felt a surge of desire. He asked, "Why are you standing so close?"
"I... Lord Romon, I’ve returned to my full strength, so I’m ready for anything now. Please, grant me some of your seed, so I may continue the bloodline of the high elves." Akalaisi suddenly knelt down, just as she had before the statue, pleading with Romon.
With things at this point, Romon naturally couldn’t back down.
He slipped his hands through the opening in her towel, reaching straight for her ample, soft breasts—by far the largest he’d ever seen. The sensation was incredibly soft, like holding a pair of water-filled balloons.
