Last Ruler Of The Empty Throne-Chapter 73: ...Camp?
In the distance, away from where Alexa was, a pair of twins were running with all they had.
"Victor! Hurry, we can’t rest now." The female of the pair was breathing frantically as she tried to pull her brother, who was lagging behind.
"Just a moment, just a moment." Victor quickly caught his breath and looked behind. Upon listening a bit closely, he began hearing voices behind him.
He then looked down at his bleeding waist, which he was trying to cover from his sister.
’Damn it, we were so close,’ he grumbled as he struggled to continue running with his sister.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t get far enough before the distant voices became closer.
"Come here, you bastards." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Hand it over before it gets worse."
Mocking sounds were heard from the people chasing the twins. There were ten of them, with the last at the back of the chasing group, not saying anything. He was the leader of the group chasing the twins, and he had been ordered to bring back the item with them.
"It’s useless; you will be fed if you don’t stop now." The young man, who seemed to be the leader, was just shaking his head as if whatever they were doing was useless.
As for the pair, they froze upon hearing the word ’fed.’ They didn’t know where they were going to get help from, but they could only run faster now that they had heard the word. They picked themselves up and ran faster.
As the pair was running, Victoria, the female of the twins, suddenly stumbled upon a ditch in the ground and fell forward.
"Ahh..." Her face contorted as she fell to the ground, her momentum causing Victor to also fall forward. However, he was able to catch himself before he fell.
"Hey, Victoria, get up," he said in a rush and tried to lift her up.
But, "V-Victor," she looked into her brother’s eyes with a trembling body and spoke the words he feared the most, "I-I can’t stand."
"No, no, no, you can stand; you just need to do it." He tried to encourage her, but—
"Hahaha, the rats are here."
The chasing group had caught up and were now starting to surround them.
"Just hand it over and die."
"Haa... so fucking close," Victor slowly stood up and stood before his sister. "Do you really think you can defeat me?" he declared as he stomped the ground.
Rumble...
The floor shook, and spikes rose up from the ground to pierce them all, but they stopped the moment the leader of the chasers stretched out his arm. "Yes, we can; besides, you are injured."
"Eh?" It now dawned on Victoria why her normally strong brother had been faltering behind. "Y-You are injured, where?" She pointed at her brother, and her trembling hands started glowing yellow.
"Save it for yourself; I can handle myself." Actually, the reason he didn’t want to accept her help was because he knew she didn’t have any more mana. He didn’t know what would happen if she forced it and didn’t want to know.
"Just hand it over; I won’t repeat myself." The leader of the chasers seemed uninterested in their talks and started saying his own.
"But we got it fair and square," Victoria shouted back at the leader of the chasers.
"Blame your luck on that," the leader responded.
"You trashy people, I hope you suffer." Victoria was already in tears as she did what one would call a curse before death.
"Attack!" he ordered the people around him, and they moved. As they got close, about to jump, Victor, two arrows suddenly landed on the two sides of Victor.
"Huh?"
"Hmm, arrow?"
"Who?"
Everybody tensed and got themselves ready, even the leader of the chasers.
’Where did that attack come from?’ He didn’t think it was monsters, as those arrows looked like they were defending Victor.
’So, people... but how?’ He was thinking of the possibility when a group of thirty people came into their view.
’Strong’ was his first thought as he saw Alexa, and even the two behind her holding bows were stronger than him. But he could defeat the rest, so he stared at her with narrowed eyes and asked, "Who are you?"
"You don’t have to know." Alexa looked away from him and looked at the bleeding Victor and the immobile Victoria. "I need an explanation to understand."
"What?" Victor was surprised at the look on Alexa’s asking him to talk about the situation. ’Does she want to save us?’ Before he could even decide, his sister was already talking.
"W-We are being chased by the people in our camp," she struggled to say.
"Camp?" Alexa was genuinely shocked to hear the word ’camp’ from her mouth.
"Yes, we stay in a camp in that direction." She then pointed in the direction they must have been coming from.
"You rat, attack!" The chasing leader suddenly got angry at the release of a dangerous, possible enemy to their base.
The men moved to stop Victoria from saying any more, but—
"Gravity Reverse!" As Alexa said it, five of them began floating up, and the rest were suddenly crushed to the ground under the pressure.
"Huh?"
"P-Put me down."
The men floating up were suddenly embarrassed. They didn’t even have a chance to attack, and it wasn’t as if they were just floating — it was upside down, sideways, and some of them were finding it difficult to breathe.
The chasing leader gritted his teeth and stretched out his hand again, wanting to stop the attack as he had done before. But who was Alexa?
She was the newest cheat character in the camp. She maybe could now rival Jenny and Cynthia, and the chasing leader wasn’t even in the first realm, not to mention being at the threshold.
The attack clearly didn’t work, and Alexa just looked at him and drew her finger in the air downward:
’Gravity x4.’
BOOM!
The chasing leader immediately fell to the ground under a weight that was four times his own.
"What?" Victor turned his head sharply to Alexa with a visibly shocked expression. ’How did she make all of them immobile without moving?’ With his shocked face, he looked at the group behind her that hadn’t taken action yet.
And from their look, they weren’t really shocked about it. ’Is this normal for them?’ Victor thought.
But unfortunately, it wasn’t. These people with Alexa were the group she had formed since day one. And they had been together since then, and throughout, they had seen how amazing she was to the point they were used to it.
Besides, there was a larger monster living in their camp that also said he was a human. The point was, they couldn’t be surprised anymore.
"Hmm, I think these people would have all the questions we need, so we can just take them and go back." The male archer pointed at the chasing leader.
"Makes sense." Then Alexa released all of them and looked at Victoria and said, "Follow us; you will need to continue that story of yours soon."
"T-Thank you for helping us, but where are you taking us?" Victor went over to his sister and helped her stand up since everything was solved.
"Our base." Alexa pointed in the opposite direction. Victor traced her finger and looked in that direction, and nodded. ’So, they also have a camp.’ He was curious about how the people there were.
So, Alexa immediately moved her team to capture the chasers, and the male archer, called Tim, personally watched the chasing leader.
The journey back was quiet. "My name is Victoria; what is yours?" she looked at Alexa.
"Alexa." But her reply was almost dull.
"Are you the leader of the camp we are going to?" Victor also tried to ask questions, but Alexa didn’t respond again after saying her name.
"The leader is someone else," Tim shook his head and replied in her stead.
"Oh, you guys look young; how old?" Since Tim was showing friendliness, they asked him instead.
The pair of twins looked about 24–25 years old, so they knew what they meant by young.
"Well, we were still students."
"Students?" Victor questioned back, but then, as if it hit him, his eyes widened. "Wait, Palflic?"
"Yes."
"Wow." Victoria, too, was visibly shocked at it.
"What?"
"Nothing. We just didn’t expect anyone to survive from there."
"Is our reputation that bad?" Tim chuckled as he greeted.
"I’m Tim, by the way."
"Victor."
"Victoria," the two replied at the same time.
"Twins?" Tim looked at the two again and could finally notice the similarities.
And there was also a reaction from Alexa. She looked back fiercely at the sound of "twins." She, too, was a twin, and she was still sensitive to words like that. She saw the similarities, too. Her lip trembled; she wanted to say something, but it wasn’t coming out.
She could only grip her fists tightly. The only person who saw this was the female archer.
At an unknown time, they had arrived at the vicinity of their camp.
"Welcome to our camp," Tim greeted again with a smile.
