Chapter 179: Epilogue 2.1

[Leanna’s POV]

Four months later

"Congratulations! You’re seven weeks pregnant and judging from your scan . . . you’re having twins!"

. . .

. . .

I knew I had mentally prepared myself for this, but the reality still hit me hard and left me helpless.

No wonder I was so blessed my whole life after I reincarnated. It was all because, after the happiness, there would always be sadness –– a balance in the universe.

I probably used up my entire lifetime of luck until today.

Now . . .

Cain pulled me into his chest in a tight embraced. I didn’t know when he arrived beside me, or that I was already crying like I was diagnosed with stage four cancer.

I paid no mind that the doctor was staring at us in bewilderment.

I know, right?

I’m pregnant!

It was supposed to be a joyous occasion, but the atmosphere felt like someone had died.

I mean, what were the odds of actually birthing twins?

I knew somewhere in me, I had this strong premonition since we had a history of birthing twins. My mother birthed twins. My brother were twins. But that premonition was kept locked in the deepest corner of my heart to keep me hopeful.

Even though the gender was yet to be determined, I was already feeling miserable, and guilt ate all other emotions.

"Leanna . . ."

Cain went on one knee and cupped my cheeks, looking at me with loving eyes, telling me that everything is going to be alright with his gentle smile.

He was so calm about this, and I wanted to scream and hit him in disbelief, but I was too weak. All life was practically drained out from me.

"Leanna . . . I promised that I would make you happy." He wiped away the tears pouring from my eyes before he planted his palm on my belly. "That includes all which will make you happy."

For a moment, I thought something glint in his eyes. Something scary.

"I promise everything will be alright . . . ," he whispered and planted a firm kiss on my forehead.

His cooing voice, his gentle kisses and soft rubbing of my belly made me somewhat calm down.

I nodded.

----

Late at night in the quiet corner of the study room in Cain’s mansion in London, there stood two men in the dark. Only their silhouette was apparent.

"The doctor?"

"Done and dealt with."

"Mmmm . . ."

Cain looked over the scenery outside of the mansion’s garden, twirling a chalice of liquor in his hand while his mind was elsewhere.

He planned for Leanna to have her pregnancy tested outside of the country if ever she would get pregnant. Luckily, they were still on their honeymoon and in London. That would give them time until the elders could get wind that his wife was now pregnant.

"The preparations?" Cain asked, not looking at Russell behind him.

"Forty percent of the ancients have your back while the remaining sixty are the only once left loyal to the elders," Russell answered with a nonchalant tone like it was just a daily report.

His lips then stretched in a lopsided grin. "Honestly, I was surprised that we managed to get forty percent of the ancients’ loyalty, knowing how devoted they are to the elders. That just shows your might, Young Master."

The ancients were powerful veterans working under both families. They were the top soldiers, mercenaries, killers, and assassins during their days. But now retired and only served the elder Fay’s.

Meanwhile, the numbers were the new generations, young ones trained by the ancients to replaced them before they could retire.

Cain sighed and swallowed the bottle of liquor in one gulped.

"That’s nowhere near enough."

He knew how strong the ancients were, more importantly, how strong his grandparents were.

He looked at Russell, hiding the turmoil within his expressionless eyes.

"If you’re going to fight August, what’re your chances?"

Russell smirked, yet his gaze was sharp. "Fifty-fifty. My old man is so strong, after all. But . . . if I have Four with me, the chances will rise."

Cain retracted his gaze, eyes flicking over the scenery without any trace of emotion on his cold face.

"No. The numbers are the only thing that can stand against the ancients. You have to deal with your father by yourself."

Russell bitterly smiled at himself. In truth, he didn’t want Four to be implicated in this war. He wanted her to stay away somewhere safe while he dealt with his old man by himself.

In actuality, Cain already prepared a revolt the moment he laid eyes on Leanna. He had been preparing for it for years just in case something like this would happen.

But who would have thought that his wife would want a child so soon?

His armies were ready, but still not enough to warrant a victory.

Cain frowned and smiled at the same time. He could have said ’no’ to Leanna, but couldn’t bear to do so. Even if his wife asked for heaven and earth, he would give it to her in a heartbeat.

"The new recruits?"

Russell’s forehead crumpled and snorted, "Nowhere near ready."

Russell hesitated before he added, "If . . . young miss Estela is to join, then––"

"No," Cain answered in an instant, eyes turning softer. "Estela is . . . free. She will not be joining this war."

Cain dearly loves his sister even though he didn’t show it. He would not have agreed for Zhander nor any man for that matter to marry her. But since the Jansen’s were powerful enough and could protect Estela just in case . . . Then, he stomached his unwillingness and sent her off to that man’s home.

"Young Master . . . How about your parents?"

Cain’s eyelids twitched. "My parents will be neutral in this."

Russell sighed through his mouth and flashed a lofty smile. "Then . . . I guess this is all of us. All the numbers will be in your command as well as forty percent of the ancients."

Cain didn’t react as he stared over the horizon, flickering of emotions crossed his eyes before his features turned soft. Then it was cold and sharp again.

He looked at Russell. "If we are to lose this war . . . You know what to do."

Russell’s lofty smile turned grim as he answered in a solemn voice, "Yes. The serum is ready."

Cain nodded before flicking his eyes towards the dark sky.

My love . . . It’s better this way . . . I won’t let them harm you and our child even after I die. It’s better for you to join me.
