Chapter 2287: Chapter 2287: Dragon Gate

Ten minutes later.

Sixty-four strong Mont Horses pulled a glittering golden carriage to a stop at the gates of the imperial city.

This carriage, Julius Reed had ridden in more than once.

Mont, being a vassal state of the Ten Thousand Mountain Alliance, naturally had to keep such golden carriages on hand.

Whenever the King of Demarco Mount arrived, they must use such a carriage to welcome him.

On every visit, Julius Reed always rode in this carriage.

This was a matter of status and rank.

He wanted to show Ilia Danvers that a king is always a king, no matter what.

Ilia Danvers was his vassal.

Indeed, Ilia Danvers might not completely fear the Wolf Cavalry, but in the end, he submitted.

He chose to send out this carriage.

Julius Reed stepped onto the golden footstool, boarded the carriage, only to be surprised to find someone else inside.

"Karen?"

He looked at Karen sitting at the side, very surprised.

"It’s me."

Karen gave a bitter smile.

"You’re here?" Julius Reed was contemplating why Karen was here.

Back in Gonzalez City, Karen had disappeared.

Later, at the Gills Alliance, they discovered Terry Moore was poisoned and thought it might be Karen’s doing.

Now, seeing Karen directly, Julius Reed had many questions in his heart.

"Are you here?"

Julius Reed asked.

He could feel Karen was very embarrassed, even having a lot of unspeakable secrets.

"I’m here, I’ve been with Ilia Danvers all along. I had no choice but to listen to him. And to be honest, he treated me well, didn’t abuse or harm me."

"I miss you all, but now, I feel ashamed to see you."

"Lord, I haven’t betrayed you, I haven’t betrayed anyone. I thank you for saving Terry Moore. Thank you..."

Saying this, his eyes turned red.

Karen wiped his eyes with his sleeve, then took out a napkin from a bath center and wiped his nose.

"Ilia Danvers told me that Terry Moore was beyond saving, not even you could help, inevitably doomed. But I didn’t believe it, I knew you were a god! If there’s a god in this world, it’s you!"

His voice turned somewhat hoarse.

Those days and nights were extremely hard for him.

Every day, he prayed for Terry Moore, praying he would be safe.

"Really, I almost... That kind of despair, thank you, Lord."

Karen kneeled directly in front of Julius Reed in the carriage.

"Thank you!"

He was very emotional.

"Alright, we’re all brothers, and the both of you have been with me for a long time, our bonds are deep. Stand up, let’s talk." Julius Reed waved his hand, and Karen, unfazed, sat beside Julius Reed.

"Lord, it’s very dangerous here, you shouldn’t have come. You know, there’s a dragon in Ilia Danvers. A dragon inside him!"

Karen didn’t speak softly, speaking in a normal voice.

Since Ilia Danvers let him come, it meant he wasn’t afraid of Julius Reed knowing about this.

And as Julius Reed’s friend, he had to tell everything he knew.

"Ilia Danvers and the imperial scholar each took a different path, but both are very dangerous. The imperial scholar wanted to nurture a proto-dragon inside him, but it’s extremely dangerous, as its emergence would attract werewolves."

"The imperial scholar’s only way was to feign death, avoiding the werewolves’ search. Once they thought he was dead, they would desist. By then, the imperial scholar could assimilate the proto-dragon to become a Dragon Knight."

"But I heard that the imperial scholar died. That’s news from half a day ago because they saw the werewolves and the proto-dragon. If the imperial scholar wasn’t dead, the werewolves wouldn’t have reappeared."

"And Ilia Danvers took a different approach."

Karen took a deep breath, organizing his thoughts.

"Ilia Danvers wanted to turn himself into a dragon egg, nurturing the dragon, and in the process killing it inside him. By doing so, he wouldn’t be a Dragon Knight, he would become a dragon himself! He wants to become a dragon."

"The cost of this is enormous."

"Do you know? Right in front of me, he almost died! Just a little bit! I saved him, and I don’t know if it’s right or wrong, but somehow, I saved him."

Karen was a bit anxious, unsure how to explain to Julius Reed.

But he didn’t want to hide anything.

What’s done is done.

What’s not done is not done.

"Lord, I don’t advise you to go, it’s extremely dangerous there." Karen suddenly seemed anxious: "Within the palace, it’s very chaotic right now. You know, Ilia Danvers’ state is unstable, he’s at a critical point. For now, the dragon is suppressed and rarely shows. But if it seizes an opportunity, he could die just the same." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"The imperial scholar’s path was the simplest, though not flawless, and there is a gap between a proto-dragon and a true dragon."

"Ilia Danvers hasn’t figured out why the imperial scholar died, as his method was near perfect, without flaw. Even after deductions, death wasn’t possible."

"And yet, the imperial scholar died."

"Ha." Julius Reed chuckled softly.

He knew well how the imperial scholar died.

If he hadn’t set that sword in motion, the imperial scholar wouldn’t have died.

And would have been stronger.

Julius Reed was almost deceived by the imperial scholar’s performance.

But although the imperial scholar died, Julius Reed would keep his promise to take care of his disciples.

A gentleman’s word is worth its weight in gold.

"Take care of yourself."

The carriage stopped, and Julius Reed stepped out, patting the horse on the flank.

The golden carriage sped toward the city gate.

"Go, return to the Ten Thousand Mountain Alliance, keep Karen company."

Julius Reed finished speaking, waving at Karen who had popped his head out of the carriage window.

"I’ll come back."

With those words, he turned, facing the grand hall ahead.

Mont was wealthy, the hall luxurious.

Julius Reed walked up the stairs, looking at the hall’s gate.

The gate was open.

Walking eighty-one steps, he finally stood before the grand hall.

Inside the hall, was only one person.

Ilia Danvers.

No one else was around, only corpses.

Judging by the clothes, they seemed to be palace maids and eunuchs.

"Lord." Ilia Danvers sat on the ground, looked at Julius Reed, and smiled: "Please take a seat."

He held a wine pot, drunk to stupor.

"Is this... a banquet of betrayal?" Julius Reed reversed his hands, stepping into the hall.

Upon entering, he sensed something amiss.

Murderous traps lurked everywhere!

Bam!

The hall door shut.

The interior turned pitch black.

Soon, candlelight flickered on.

Under the faint candle glow, Julius Reed saw the hall’s unusual scene.

The dragons entwined on the pillars seemed to come alive!

Inside the hall, dragons writhed.

"To call it a banquet of betrayal isn’t right, but this gate, I call it the dragon gate, is that too much?"

Ilia Danvers stood, clapping his hands: "Lord, you’ve crossed the dragon gate."

"After the dragon gate?" Julius Reed smiled and retorted.

"After the dragon gate, naturally it’s me! I am the Dragon King!"

Ilia Danvers laughed loudly, and the surrounding dragons began to stir restlessly.
