"I killed the monster..." Xavier muttered. The voice that came out of his mouth was low and sharp. Down on the bloodstained ground lay the Goblin King’s disfigured corpse. Along with his upper torso, the Goblin King’s ugly face had also been blasted into smithereens. As such, Xavier could not exactly see what sort of expression the king had before its death.
Was it regret... or even shock? Xavier didn’t know the answer to these questions, but one thing was certain: he might have killed the monster that blocked his path, and the price—he wasn’t sure.
His gaze unconsciously drifted to his two hands. Death Will Aura was thick and viscous, flickering momentarily as if syncing with his beating heart, giving the illusion that the aura was about to come to life.
Xavier closed his eyes to focus. In the process of killing the Goblin King, he might have become an even bigger monster. Countless thoughts whirled in his heart.
Did he even deserve this power? After all, he was just a lowlife prisoner.
His thoughts were twisted. Before his mental state could take a turn for the worse, Xavier’s eyes sprang open.
So what if he was a monster? What was wrong with being a monster if it could help him survive in this hellish world?
If the price to survive was being turned into a monster, he would gladly accept it.
With that thought in mind, he summoned the status window to take a look at his progress.
...
While Xavier was coming to terms with his mental state, Millie and Jackie looked completely stunned, empty looks in their eyes as they scanned the goblin corpses turning cold by the minute.
Both of them were so lost, failing to notice the two elves’ arrivals.
Princess Evelyn had a solemn expression on her face as she scanned the corpses scattered over the battlefield.
The outcome of the battle was completely outside her expectations. She had expected Xavier to die a gruesome death.
Compared to her, Lirin was concerned about something else. Her mature eyes perfectly reflected the purple aura dancing around Xavier’s figure.
As Xavier had managed to kill the goblin in one clean strike, the Death Will Executioner Aura was still active. However, it would fade if Xavier didn’t kill again.
"This aura..." Lirin’s pink lips parted, a chill running down her spine. This aura reminded her of something deeply buried in the corner of her memories.
Legendary class? However, as soon as this thought occurred to her, she shook her head to get rid of it. It was given that first-wave Awakeners were the strongest and most talented warriors in world history, but it was still too early.
Princess Evelyn, who wasn’t that far away from her, heard her muttering and couldn’t help but look again in Xavier’s direction in plain shock.
Legendary class... if he had the legendary class, everything would make sense.
Just as this thought occurred to her, a strange look appeared in her eyes. This is it—this is the opportunity which can help my race rise again.
No matter what, she must take him with her.
As for the Fort John matter, she had thrown it to the back of her mind.
For Princess Evelyn, nothing else mattered now.
...
[Name: Xavier Crownheart] [Age: 21] [Ranking: 501] [Level: 18 | Race: Human | Class: Death Will Executioner | Title: First Legendary Class Holder, Bane of Humanity, Plunderer] [Strength: 58 | Agility: 57 | Health: 53 | Stamina: 55 | Mana: 150] [Freely Distributable Stats: 41]
Looking at the blue character floating before his retina, Xavier felt an emotion he couldn’t describe. All of this growth happened in just one day.
He had reached Level 18—just a couple of levels away from Level 25, where his body could finally begin to evolve.
Without even realizing, the number of freely distributable stats had reached 40. At any point he wanted, his strength could take another leap. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
He couldn’t even start to imagine just where he would be in a couple of months.
"I’m now ranked in the five hundreds..." Xavier’s eyes twinkled when he noticed his ranking. Although he didn’t want to boast, being ranked just 501—his strength was mind-boggling. Just how strong were the warriors ranked within the top hundred?
After fully absorbing the information his status window provided, his gaze turned to the list of rewards he had received from killing the Goblin King.
Minor Soul Blood Healing Potion... Experience Shard.
Looking at the list of rewards, a slightly disappointed look appeared on Xavier’s face. Compared to the difficulty of the battle, the rewards had been underwhelming.
There were no magical skills nor exotic treasures. Moreover, there was even an item which he was not familiar with at all.
As he thought about the Experience Shard, his inventory window flickered, and a sharp crystalline object appeared in his hands.
The Experience Shard looked like a diamond emitting soft golden light, feeling slightly warm to the touch.
As he focused, a new window popped up in front of him:
[Item: Experience Shard]
[Type: Consumable • Memory Relic Grade: Rare Binding: Single Use]
[Description: A crystallized fragment of accumulated experience, formed when a practitioner’s mastery condenses into tangible essence. Upon absorption, the user inherits the embedded skill familiarity, instincts, and muscle memory of the shard’s origin. The shard does not transfer raw power—only refined understanding. Effect: 1. Grants inherited experience equivalent to the shard’s source 2. Accelerates mastery progression 3. Improves technique efficiency and execution precision]
Reading the shard’s item description, a slightly excited look appeared on his face. This was exactly what he needed. Although the fight against the goblin had been impossibly hard, after defeating him, Xavier understood lots of ins and outs about himself.
One of them being: although he had raw power, it lacked direction. When facing experienced and well‑trained opponents like the Goblin King, his weakness was clear.
The Goblin King was not only stronger than him but clearly more experienced.
It was only when his strength eclipsed the Goblin King by several levels that he finally killed the monster.
Although he understood the weakness, there was nothing he could do.
The apocalypse was not going to give him time to learn how to use his strength better, to learn how to use a sword.
In such a situation, the Experience Shard could fill these critical gaps.
