Chapter 45: Despairing situation of elven village

North of Elven Village Laplace.

Skies were grey and large, burning towers of smoke rose toward the sky like giant pillars. Under this incredible scenery, battle cries echoed as elven soldiers clashed with the rampaging goblins, trying their best to hold off the advancing horde.

Commander Brutus, dressed in top-tier battle attire, moved through the battlefield like lightning, his voice imbued with raw mana echoing through the surroundings like a thunderclap.

"Think of your family behind those walls! If any one of these goblins gets past, think of what they would do to your loved ones!"

Those words caused the elven soldiers’ faces to turn ugly. A soldier who had lost one of his arms defending against a heavily armoured goblin threw his body forward headfirst, seemingly overwhelmed by despair and losing the ability to reason.

No matter what technique they used—nature magic growing large batches of vines to stop the goblins, creating walls—nothing seemed to work. All of these obstacles crumbled like pieces of paper when encountering the goblins’ relentless assault.

Commander Brutus and a few other senior officers’ faces paled.

The situation was even more despairing than they had originally imagined.

Brutus knew if the situation continued to develop like this, the fall of the northern gate was inevitable. They needed overwhelming firepower to stop the goblins’ advance.

Thinking of this, his eyes flickered with a decisive look.

"Inform Bloodmancer Thalia. The village needs her help once more..."

The few officers who heard these words let out a sigh of relief.

Although the situation was the absolute worst they could imagine, as long as the First Sequence Elder Thalia took action, everything would be okay.

After all, in the past, no matter what danger they faced, elder Thalia had solved it all.

A young officer took the official order from Brutus’s hand and rushed toward Bloodmancer Thalia’s temple, his steps agile and fast, covering tens of meters in seconds. In the blink of an eye he had disappeared deeper into the village.

...

Xavier had a frown on his face. After levelling up multiple times and increasing his stats, his perception had also shot through the roof.

So while moving toward the northern gate, he could feel the presence of multiple strong beings ahead.

"Probably goblins," Xavier concluded after a moment of thought.

A few metres ahead of him were Princess Evelyn and Sunark. After getting out of the temple, the two were joined by Lirin.

Princess Evelyn, although dressed in a royal gown, had movements that were not restricted one bit; she was just as fast as before, if not faster.

With a solemn face she inquired, "Lirin, what’s the status?"

The question was directly aimed at the crux of the situation.

The older and mature elf Lirin’s face was pale as paper. It took her a few moments to gather her thoughts before she started to speak.

"Replying to Your Highness Evelyn, my lady, the situation is extremely grim. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of goblins attacking the village at the same time. Moreover..."

When she reached here, Lirin stopped as if hesitating.

Sunark, who had been listening quietly all this time, interrupted in a loud voice.

"What ’moreover’?"

He was extremely frustrated. Ever since the arrival of those humans, nothing good had happened to this village.

Lirin gritted her teeth and uttered, "Most of these goblins are heavily armed."

"Heavily armed?" Evelyn’s eyebrows rose in surprise. Goblins were known for their lustful nature; their fighting style was extremely barbaric. Only high‑ranking goblins or the king wielded proper weapons.

But if Lirin’s words were to be believed, Princess Evelyn’s expression chilled.

She could feel something targeting her elven village.

With that thought in her mind, the sense of urgency in Evelyn’s heart shot up.

Xavier wasn’t able to hear Lirin’s words exactly, but he knew there were definitely no positive news.

He hurriedly followed them from behind.

...

Jackie looked toward Millie who was beside her.

A slight strange expression was on her face. Millie looked like a completely changed person. Although she still radiated the air of a happy‑go‑lucky girl, after meeting with Thalia, something about her had changed.

With all these thoughts in her mind, Jackie asked, "Are you sure about this, Millie? Why not stay here and enjoy the protection of the village? We can examine the situation once the battle dies down."

Millie acted as if she hadn’t heard these words at all.

Jackie seemed to already expect this response from her and sighed.

It appeared she had really changed.

In this changed world, running away was not an option. Once you started running away there was no turning back. The strong would continue to become stronger while the weak would forever be at the bottom of the food chain, running all their lives.

This situation might not be possible in other worlds going through organic development, but in a world that had just integrated with the Infinite Record, where the process of evolution was pushed at its top speed... you had to fight, and fight hard.

Millie might not be aware of this, but she could feel a sense of urgency in her heart.

Moreover, even if she didn’t feel this way, she would still choose the same after knowing the killers of her parents were roaming free without any consequences.

Xavier didn’t know what was going through the girl’s head. Without even realizing it, he arrived at the northern gate of the Laplace village.

Makeshift crude walls from wooden plywood and metal scraps from burnt cars stood tall. Atop these walls, soldiers dressed in full‑body armour fired arrows like machines, filling the entire sky with clean and sharp metal.

Broken limbs and cries of pain echoed loud as thunder. Anyone who had never seen the true horror of war felt their stomach turn and almost threw their guts out.

Although after fighting so many battles, Xavier felt his mental fortitude had strengthened, after seeing this absolute carnage, even he felt his stomach churn.

Elven soldiers and Commander Brutus were doing their very best to stop the incoming tide, but there were simply too many goblins.

Standing atop the walls, Xavier watched Brutus move forward, sword raised high.

Brutus’s muscles were burning, his entire body drenched in blood. It was difficult to distinguish whether it was his own blood or the goblins’. Brutus had performed excellently, holding off the wave from advancing any further alone. However, with each passing moment his sword was slowing down.

In frustration he looked back and roared, "Why is elder Thalia not here yet...!"

Panic and desperation were clear in his voice.

Seeing the situation, the few elven soldiers who had managed to suppress the fear in their hearts finally could not hold on any longer and started speaking.

"Is this the end? After so many sacrifices, is this really the end? Did we really come to this new world to die at the hands of these lowly goblins?"

Some even had doubts about whether even Bloodmancer Thalia could help them. After all, there were just too many goblins present.

She might kill ten and even a hundred, but surely there was no way she could deal with thousands of goblins alone.

Just at this moment, a shocked cry echoed.

"Look there...!

"What is that human doing?

"Is he out of his mind?"

Sunark almost exploded. Their situation was already grim and this human actually dared to jump directly into the battlefield.

"If you don’t want to live any longer, just say so. Why go through such elaborate steps?"

Sunark fumed, He would have gladly fulfilled Xavier’s wish.
