Chapter 44: Attack

Although it might not look like that big of a deal, but each time Bloodmancer Thalia used her blood divination magic it cost her precious lifespan. She was practically trading her lifespan for knowledge.

Xavier and the girls might not have been aware of this fact, but elves like Sunark, who had idolized Thalia since childhood, were very clear about the cost.

So even though all of them believed there was no way Xavier could evolve and reach the First Sequence in just three days, this promise made by Bloodmancer Thalia still made Sunark anxious.

If anything happened to her just because she made a foolish promise, how would the elves survive? After all, it was not about Bloodmancer Thalia’s well-being anymore. If anything happened to her, the future of the entire village might be at stake.

Following Sunark, several elven elders came forward to express their opinions, vehemently dissuading Bloodmancer Thalia.

However, unknown to everyone, the more the elves spoke, the stiffer the smile on Bloodmancer Thalia’s face became.

Princess Evelyn, who was the most perceptive among the elves, noticed this and hurriedly came forward to calm down the crowd.

Her face, filled with the grace of a budding authority figure, immediately caused the eyes of everyone to focus on her.

"Everyone, don’t make a joke of my elven race in front of outsiders. I fully endorse Elder Thalia’s decision and am deeply displeased by your actions. I am sure Elder Thalia must have her own reasons behind her decision."

After those words, she turned to Elder Thalia, bowed deeply, and said,

"Elder, please forgive them. The severity of the situation has gotten to their heads, and they are not able to think properly."

"Big sister!"

Sunark looked at Evelyn’s bowing figure and frowned.

He could not understand her actions. What was the need to apologize? He had done nothing wrong but merely expressed his opinion.

His simple words should not have created such a scene.

...

Hmm... there seemed to be more things at play than I thought.

Xavier thought while watching the ongoing developments.

It seemed the political structure of this elven village was not as straightforward as he had originally thought.

At first, Xavier had thought this so-called Bloodmancer Thalia was the highest authority figure, her words absolute.

And he wasn’t entirely wrong. Considering Thalia might be the only First-Sequence being in the village, his thoughts were reasonable.

He was just thinking when Zerin’s voice echoed in his head, seemingly unable to tolerate his ignorance.

"It makes me wonder just how people like you are able to survive the invasion. Considering how ignorant you are, people like you should be the first to die."

"What do you mean?"

Without fully listening to her taunt, Xavier asked almost instinctively.

Zerin seemed to have come to terms with his ignorance and explained.

Sigh.

"Given how even after crossing the gate she is still at the First Sequence, that would only mean one thing. Before coming to this world, this Bloodmancer Thalia was at least above Sequence Three."

"Above Sequence Three...?"

Xavier muttered in shock. His eyes filled with awe as he once again scanned Bloodmancer Thalia’s figure.

Just a First-Sequence fire-breathing tiger and goblin had pushed him to death’s door. Just how strong was someone at the Third Sequence? He couldn’t even imagine.

However, before he could digest this information, Xavier hurriedly turned his gaze away from Thalia and asked,

"Explain what her being Sequence Three has to do with the current situation."

Xavier could practically imagine Zerin sighing again as she started to speak.

"Most Fourth-Sequence beings and above are solitary individuals, chasing longevity in isolation. The most they dislike is being treated by others as a commodity."

"With the current situation of this elven village, they don’t want her to take independent decisions but instead become a puppet under their control."

"This is what weak people usually do to ensure their survival."

Xavier was no genius, but he could understand a few things.

Although he didn’t like Thalia because of her past behavior, he could now understand her better.

If before, Xavier was like someone moving in the dark with no idea what was going on , now he could finally see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

He could finally understand what was happening and why it was happening.

Just as he was thinking, a panicked shout suddenly came from outside.

The next moment, a slender-built elf came running in, blood covering his entire armor, a look of absolute dread on his face.

The other elves were instantly alerted by his presence, and a thought appeared in the minds of everyone present.

Something terrible had happened.

Princess Evelyn was the first to respond.

She recognized the elf. He was one of the few scouts sent to keep an eye on the goblins’ movements.

Could it be the goblins had finally attacked? 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Just as this thought occurred to her, her eyes flickered with slight confusion.

This should not be possible.

She had personally gone to examine the goblin forces. There were no signs of movement.

Just as she was thinking, a crucial detail she had almost missed flashed in her mind.

A human fighting bravely, doing the impossible, killing the First-Sequence Goblin King.

This was a detail that could change everything.

With all these thoughts in mind, she spoke in a measured tone.

"Calm down and tell me what happened."

Her words were like a basin of cold water poured over the scout’s head.

The elf calmed down and got on one knee before starting to speak.

"Reporting to Her Highness, the Elven Princess..."

While the scout spoke, everyone listened, including Xavier.

After all, this news might decide his next course of action.

On the other hand, as if seemingly having nothing to do with all of this, Bloodmancer Thalia simply closed her eyes and entered a meditative state to recover.

These two blood divinations had taken a massive toll on her.

...

"The goblin tribe has lost their leader under mysterious circumstances. Now leaderless, the goblins have gone mad, attacking and killing anything that moves."

"There is a large horde consisting of hundreds of goblins moving toward the village. I am afraid they might reach here at any moment."

The news brought by the scout was as grim as it could be.

Without saying anything else, Princess Evelyn moved, disappearing from everyone’s view.

Xavier’s eyes flickered.

Realizing that a massive battle seemed ready to erupt at any moment.
