Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 53: Reporting to the Superior (Seeking Follow-ups! Seeking Favorites!)
"Lydia revealed the truth?"
Hearing Luo An's words, Reesi looked shocked, and then hastily swallowed the burger in her mouth, seriously speaking into the phone:
"Luo An, you didn't torture Lydia, did you? You absolutely can't do that!
If Lydia's lawyer demands an injury inspection later on, then all the answers you got just now will be rejected by the judge!"
"Eh."
Glancing back at Lydia sitting on the bed, Luo An's mouth twitched:
"Don't worry, I've been measured, I didn't torture her...
Just hurry up and tell me Virene's home address."
"O...K."
After a moment of silence, remembering Luo An's performance in the investigation process, Reesi chose to trust him and said:
"Virene's home isn't too far from here, I can drive you there."
"OK, you give Virene a call first, I'll bring Lydia downstairs right away."
Nodding, Luo An hung up the phone, turned to Lydia, and said seriously:
"Lydia, I will take you to see my superior to add you to the top-level witness protection list. But that's assuming you haven't lied to me just now and you won't play any tricks on the way to the superior's house, understand?"
"Trust me, Luo An."
With her life at stake, Lydia looked very serious.
As Luo An untied the stockings from her legs but did not unlock the handcuffs on her wrists, Lydia without a word...
Rushed to the wine bottle by the bed, grabbed a bottle, and gulped it down thirstily.
She was nearly dying of thirst.
"Drink less, Lydia."
Luo An pulled a ladies' coat from a clothes rack on the side and draped it over Lydia's exposed shoulders, smiling:
"I don't want to meet my superior and have her suspect I'm playing jokes on her in the middle of the night bringing a drunkard along."
"Heh."
Throwing the wine bottle aside, Lydia gave Luo An a fierce glare.
Why wouldn't someone know why she drank so much?
Luo An shrugged, what does it have to do with me? I told you before, but you didn't believe me.
---
On the road, Luo An and Lydia sat in the back seat while Reesi drove.
At a traffic light, the car slowly stopped, and Reesi, through the rearview mirror and seeing the handcuffs on Lydia's wrist, couldn't help but twitch.
If she wasn't mistaken, those handcuffs looked like the same model she and her girlfriend used to play games with.
"What's wrong, Reesi?"
Seeing Reesi looking at her, Luo An asked puzzledly:
"Is there a problem?"
Lydia, who was pondering with her head down and heard the conversation, also turned her gaze toward Reesi.
The two of you have issues!
Reesi took a deep breath, swallowing a heap of questions in her heart, and finally took out her cellphone from the front passenger seat and waved it:
"Nothing, I just wanted to tell you, Virene seemed to be in a bad mood when she answered the phone just now."
Virene was indeed in a bad mood.
She had intended to keep the rejection of Luo An's foundation application a secret for a while.
She planned to resubmit the request after the "Lake Corpse Serial Murder Case" was solved, and this matter would have quietly passed without Luo An's knowledge.
But unexpectedly, Reesi suddenly contacted her just now, saying Luo An had an urgent matter and would come to see her soon... Should she tell Luo An this news?
If she did, as a leader, she had previously invited him earnestly, but would have to tell him that she didn't succeed – where would she put her face?
If she didn't tell him, what if Luo An were to ask...
In the apartment's study, Vireness looked at the small notebook before her, her expression complex, caught in a struggle.
Ding-dong—
The doorbell rang, and Vireness, who had been deep in thought, jolted and quickly made her way to the apartment's main door.
Peering through the peephole, she saw that the visitors were Luo An and the others; Virene opened the door without hesitation.
But the instant the door swung open, Vireness's pupils shrank sharply. It was then she suddenly realized something:
She was wearing very loose-fitting home attire!
"Good evening, Chief."
As the door opened and they saw Vireness in her loose home clothes, her makeup light, and her overall demeanor far less stern than during work, Luo An's eyebrows twitched.
But the tone of his voice did not change as he grabbed Lydia, who was next to him, bringing her in front of himself and explained:
"Chief, I'm sorry to disturb you after work hours, but this is an urgent matter."
"Come in and talk."
With an expressionless face and a cold tone, Virene motioned for the trio to enter and closed the apartment door behind them, then she turned and walked towards the bedroom, speaking as she did:
"Wait for me in the living room; make the coffee yourself."
"Understood."
Luo An and Reesi sat down on the couch, while Reenith went to the side to brew coffee. Lydia glanced in the direction of the bedroom and, with a smirk, leaned towards Luo An, whispering:
"Do you like older women?"
"No, I just have a simple preference for mature women," Luo An replied, giving Lydia a sidelong glance as he tossed a coat that had fallen to the floor into her lap, covering the enticing cleavage, and said indifferently:
"Stop goofing around, Lydia. Vireness is someone who can decide your fate; it's best you make a good impression on her."
Hearing this, Lydia's face fell. She wanted to say more, but Reenith had already returned with several cups of coffee.
The three sat silently on the sofa, sipping their coffee.
A few minutes later, Vireness walked out of the bedroom, now wearing a women's business suit and her makeup once again cool and stern. She addressed the three people on the couch:
"Luo An, come to the study. Reenith, keep an eye on this lady."
"Very well, Chief."
Luo An got up from the couch, and Reenith sat down next to Lydia, asking softly:
"Lydia, could you tell me the name and contact information of the new bartender at the bar?"
Lydia: "..."
Inside the study.
"Sit."
Vireness spoke very briefly. Once the two were seated, she stuffed the small notebook on the table back into the drawer.
After a few seconds of silence, Vireness decided to tell Luo An about his rejection from the foundation, but suddenly, Luo An stared at her face and asked solemnly:
"Chief, are you sure our conversation here is absolutely secure?"
Luo An didn't think anyone could be eavesdropping on the FBI's unit supervisor, but it was always better to be cautious.
Hearing that, Vireness's expression instantly darkened.
It wasn't dissatisfaction with Luo An questioning the safety of the study; instead, she realized that the urgent matter Luo An referred to was probably even more critical than she had imagined.
"Wait a second."
Without hesitation, Vireness opened the bottom-most drawer of her desk, which contained a large dark brown box.
Pressing hard on the button atop the box, Vireness looked up, her gaze fixed on Luo An:
"Now you can speak."
After giving Vireness a deep look, Luo An cleared his throat and said:
"It's like this, Chief..."

Leaving out his interrogation of Lydia, Luo An recounted the entire matter to Vireness. His expression grew serious as he concluded:
"Chief, this matter is too significant. I, as an agent, cannot decide on it myself... I can only ask... I can only seek your assistance."
