Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 67: Bank Robbery (Seeking Follow-up! Seeking Favorites!)
Following Vireness into the team leader's office, they both sat down.
"Broson has a bank robbery case on his hands."
Without any small talk, Vireness, sitting in her chair with her legs crossed, looked at Luo An and said in a cold voice:
"But three days have passed, and not only has Broson failed to find any trace of the robbers, but he also doesn't know their identities.
Even while he was tracking down the robbers, they tricked him once more and robbed another bank."
"Ahem—"
Upon hearing this news, Luo An couldn't help it and accidentally let out a laugh.
Seeing this, Vireness also had a slight smile on her lips but quickly suppressed her emotions and returned to her expressionless face, continuing:
"Right now, this matter has become a big issue, the bank's senior management is very dissatisfied, and so are my superiors.
A few hours ago during the meeting, Broson was forced to set a deadline for solving the case:
Discounting today, he has three days.
If he fails to solve the case and capture the robbers within the next three days, Broson will be removed from his team leader position and transferred out of the FBI New York Branch building."
Hearing about the punishment for failing to solve the case, Luo An's smile froze.
Of course, it was good news that Broson might be transferred away, and he was happy about it, but Vireness telling him this...
After a few seconds of silence, he looked at Vireness and asked:
"What does the chief mean?"
"To tell you the truth, the methods of this gang of bank robbers are very sophisticated, I think Broson's chances of solving the case this time are rather low."
Seeing that Luo An quickly understood, a hint of appreciation flashed in the depths of Vireness's eyes. After a light cough, she looked directly at Luo An with a cold voice and said:
"Broson can be transferred away, but the case won't be. It still needs to be resolved by our FBI in New York.
So after the meeting, my superiors asked several of us team leaders to discuss who would take over the case if Broson fails."
Hearing that Vireness was not currently taking on this case, Luo An immediately felt a sense of relief.
He had thought that since he had not solved the serial murder case, Vireness came over to add to his burden.
And it was a big burden that an experienced and solid FBI agent like Broson had not been able to crack.
After taking a deep breath, Luo An looked at Vireness with a serious expression and asked:
"So, does the chief want to take on this case?"
"Correct."
Vireness nodded her head, her eyes fixed on Luo An:
"Out of the five investigative teams under me, team one's performance has dropped a lot due to Broson's departure.
The teams two, three, and four have always had average performance levels, and they all have at least three cases each, so they really can't take on this new case."

Vireness didn't finish her sentence, but Luo An already understood what she meant:
He was part of team five, and they only had a serial murder case on hand, so they could definitely take on this case.
Sticking out his tongue to lick the corner of his mouth, Luo An looked up at Vireness and asked with a smile:
"If the chief solves this case, then you…"
"Then I will have the opportunity to move up a step."
Vireness didn't hide this from Luo An, because Luo An had been invited by her to join the Columbus Foundation, so he was one of her own, the kind that would share in the glory.
"If this bank robbery case is cracked."
Vireness uncrossed her legs and leaned forward, her arms crossed on the desk, her eyes intently on Luo An, her indifferent tone revealing a strand of ambition:
"I will have the opportunity to advance further, and you will have the chance for an extraordinary promotion to become a senior agent. In addition, you would also get a hefty thank you sum from the bank."
Just barely over a month since transitioning from trainee agent to full-fledged agent and now a chance to be promoted to senior agent—this was not an ordinary extraordinary promotion.
But... there was no reaction on Luo An's face.
Hearing that the bank would offer a hefty thank you sum only made Luo An's eyelids twitch slightly.
Opportunity always comes with risk, a truth deeply engraved in Luo An's mind.
Although Luo An didn't like Broson, the fact that the latter had been able to comfortably stay in the position of team leader of investigative team one for so many years, with team one's case solving rate being top-notch among the thirteen investigatory teams, was not to be underestimated.
To say that Broson lacks the ability to solve cases would be a statement not even ghosts would believe.
But such a Broson, whose track record in solving cases is a whole folder thicker than mine, failed to catch the bank robbers this time.
The level of these bank robbers...
If this case landed in my hands, and I successfully solved it, catching the culprits, everything would be perfect.
But if the case remains unsolved, and the culprits escape and vanish, Broson's fate would probably become my own...
Money is indeed a good thing, but the premise of taking it is one's own safety.
After a long silence, Luo An looked up at Virene and said with a smile:
"Chief, do you have the data on the bank robbery? I need to study it carefully before I can make a decision."
"OK, I'll have someone send it to you later."
Virene nodded and agreed to Luo An's request.
"There's no rush, Luo An. You have three days to decide. I'm here today just to inform you of this news."
Before leaving the Number Five Investigation Unit, Virene sat on the chair in the team leader's office and said to Luo An with a solemn side profile:
"The real person in charge of the case-solving process is you, so you have to carefully review the details of this case and seriously analyze your chances of catching the robbers. If you really have no confidence in solving the case, you must tell me.
Promotion is something we both have time for."
Virene has always had a broad mind and been reasonable with her own people.
And she was not in a hurry; she just saw an opportunity and subconsciously wanted to seize it.
"OK, thank you, Chief."
Luo An grinned and pushed open the door, walking out of the team leader's office.
Seeing Luo An walk out of her office, Augustus, who was looking down at Mona typing on the keyboard, lit up his eyes and immediately stood up to walk in that direction.
"Chief."
Luo An grinned, thinking Augustus wanted to talk to him about something.
Unexpectedly, Augustus walked straight past him, towards Virene who was heading towards the entrance of the Number Five Investigation Unit, preparing to leave.
"?"
Seeing the faint embarrassing smile revealed on Augustus's dark face as he approached Virene, and hearing indistinct words like 'SUV', 'salary', and 'apology' drifting over, Luo An was somewhat bewildered for a moment.
Forget it, it's not important.
Stretching lazily, Luo An looked around the office area of the Number Five Investigation Unit. Except for Reesi, all the agents were busy using the data of the newlyweds from Little Saint Phil Church to check for any missing wives.
Luo An nodded secretly in his heart—the morale of the troops was good!
And then...
It was time to get off work.
As usual, after a day of work, everyone went their separate ways.
Reesi went home to his wife and son, Mona took her laptop back to her newly bought apartment, Reenith dug out some cosmetics from somewhere and began to apply them to her face, buttoned up her white shirt, and headed directly to a certain bar.
After dropping off the carpooler Augustus at his home, Luo An drove his Chevrolet aimlessly around New York's streets, unsure where to go.
He hadn't started sorting out his apartment yet. The renovation company that Reesi had found for Luo An was currently in the stage of drawing up design plans for Luo An to review.
Thinking of staying in a hotel for the night, Luo An saw that it wasn't even six o'clock on his watch and felt the time seemed a bit early.
After long consideration, Luo An decided to find a gym to work out.
Your health is your primary asset, after all; the memory of the back pain he had before was still vivid.
In the Greenwich Region where his apartment was located, Luo An casually found a gym. He parked his car and leisurely walked in.
"Hi, hello."
Seeing Luo An walk into the gym, the shapely young blond coach, Della, lit up, immediately tossed the water bottle she was holding onto the ground, and extended her hand to Luo An:
"My name's Della, I'm a coach here. Is this your first time visiting us?"
"Hello, my name is Luo An."
He reached out to shake hands with her, and as Luo An looked down at her captivating appearance, the corners of his mouth lifted, and a smile spread across his unremarkable, handsome face:
"Indeed, this is my first time."
