Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 791 - 793: Mysterious Woman, Launching an Investigation
At half past ten in the morning, the special investigation unit’s office.
Upon hearing that Reesi, registered in the FBI database, had died 20 years ago, several agents were immediately filled with astonishment. Reesi asked:
"Is there a problem with the FBI database, or is there an issue with Reesi herself?
Someone who died 20 years ago couldn’t possibly be working at a lobbying firm."
"I was thinking the same."
Mona nodded, then typed a few keys on her computer, pulling up another page to show everyone, and said:
"It turns out, the FBI database was wrong.
During the autopsy by the Trace Evidence Science Section, while normally collecting DNA samples from Reesi’s body as per protocols, they accidentally discovered that the data perfectly matched a record within the NAMUS system.
NAMUS data revealed that Reesi’s real name was Natawei, who disappeared in a region of California 20 years ago. After investigations, local police inferred that she had died, a status that has remained unchanged until now."
NAMUS, the full name being the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, contains information such as DNA and physical descriptions concerning approximately seventy percent of missing persons and unidentified bodies federally.
As for the remaining thirty percent, with the vastness of federal territory and populated areas, coupled with distinctive national circumstances and the simplicity of local customs, perhaps only God knows where those people are.
After hearing Mona’s explanation, Winslow and Michelle furrowed their brows even more.
Chenier leaned over to take a closer look and discovered that Reesi, whose real name was Natawei, had many relatives in California; her father was dead, her mother had remarried and was still living well, yet Reesi had never gone to California to seek her mother.
Reesi looked at the employment records of the lobbying firm, her face full of confusion, and asked:
"The records show that Reesi joined the lobbying firm thirteen months ago.
Can we trace what Reesi was doing before those thirteen months?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"No."
Mona shook her head, spreading her hands and explaining:
"Reesi’s history prior to thirteen months ago is completely blank. How she entered this lobbying firm is also a mystery.
The company’s records indicate that Reesi was a high achiever with a master’s degree in management and extensive work experience.
I checked, and all this information was fake; Reesi used fabricated identities to get into the lobbying firm."
Chenier straightened up, crossed her arms in front of her chest, and stared at the woman’s photo on the computer screen with narrowed eyes:
"Such a mysterious woman."
Clap clap clap—
Luo An clapped his hands, drawing the agents’ attention, and said:
"Ladies and gentlemen, Reesi, whose real name is Natawei, was a victim of a murder case that occurred a month ago.
Clearly, she has many secrets waiting for us to investigate.
Apart from her, let’s not forget about the murder that happened three days ago.
In that Cadillac, Imre in the driver’s seat was killed by a slit throat, the assassin in the passenger seat fled into the woods, and was later beaten and taken away by a third party who emerged.
For now, let’s set aside the third party; this assassin in the passenger seat, just like Reesi, is a woman, also reported to have already died."
Luo An passed another folder to everyone; upon opening, they found it was a crime scene report from the Trace Evidence Science Section.
The report showed that the hair and skin tissue found at the passenger seat belonged to the same person.
This person’s DNA matched that of a woman in the NAMUS system, whose name was Ashiya, who disappeared in a city in Ohio 18 years ago, later to be pronounced dead by local police, a status unchanged until now.
"Another one?!"
Winslow and Reesi’s eyes widened in surprise, Chenier’s brows were tightly knit, Michelle’s expression subtly changed, and he looked up and said:
"The assassin Ashiya, who sat in the passenger seat of the Cadillac and killed Imre, was defeated by the Footprint Man and taken away.
Reesi, the victim a month ago, was killed directly by the Footprint Man."
"Both women are related to Footprint Man, could they be from the same organization?"
"The likelihood is high."
Before Luo An could speak, Mona nodded first, pointing to the computer screen and said:
"Just like Leisha, I can’t find this Ashiya’s place of residence, work location, or any information. It feels like she just popped up out of nowhere."
Luo An didn’t confirm Michelle’s speculation, nor did he deny it. He shook the folder in his hand and said:
"The Forensic Department, based on the footprints left at the scene by Footprint Man, judged that the person is a male, about 180 cm tall.
Also, the heel impressions of the footprints are very deep while the forefoot is shallow, indicating that this person walks with his chest out and abdomen in, keeping his body fairly straight.
Considering he was on his way to catch Ashiya, he still walked at an even pace, not hurrying at all, with fairly consistent strides, indicating this guy is very confident in his own strength and not worried about Ashiya escaping his pursuit."
"Conversely, the footprints Ashiya left at the scene are very chaotic; she was extremely panicked when she ran."
Winslow looked at the information in the folder, his eyes slightly narrowed, and speculated:
"This Footprint Man most likely has a military background."
The office area fell quiet for a moment, as all agents carefully took notes on the cases, and after a moment of silence, Luo An tapped the whiteboard and said:
"So, our next direction in the investigation is to figure out what Ashiya and Leisha have experienced during the years they disappeared.
Additionally, find a way to locate and capture that Footprint Man, to uncover the truth behind these two cases!"
All agents nodded in unison, and Luo An immediately ordered:
"Mona, you will mainly investigate Cadillac owner Imre’s movements before his death, to find out when and where he first made contact with Ashiya.
Michelle, you take a careful look at the surveillance videos near the highway during the time of Imre’s death to see which vehicles passed by at the time of the incident, and strive to find Footprint Man’s trail.
Chenier, Winslow, you two go to that lobbying company together, to investigate Leisha’s situation.
Figure out how Leisha got the job at that company with fake credentials, and go to her residence to see if you can find some useful information.
Reesi, you come with me, we will do a field investigation on Ashiya’s personal situation."
At the order, all the agents in the office area nodded and answered:
"No problem!" x5
———
After quickly organizing their equipment, the team divided into three groups to begin their investigative tasks.
Since the victim Imre had no children, no wife, only a dog and two cats at home, Luo An and Reesi, accompanied by agents from the Forensic Department, conducted a brief search at his home. They didn’t find many useful clues and then drove to the car rental company owned by Imre.
The business of the car rental company... was not affected much by the sudden throat-slitting death of the boss.
Faced with the inquiry from Luo An and Reesi, the manager of the car rental company spread his hands and said:
"Besides setting the overall direction, the boss didn’t come here that often. I’ve always run the company’s operations."
Through the manager’s office window, they could see the staff outside going about their business as usual, completely unaffected by the boss’s death. Reesi was speechless, while Luo An felt it was quite normal.
Everyone working at the grassroots level cared about their salaries; no one had the leisure to worry about the higher-ups.
Luo An then asked:
"Do you know where Imre went before he was killed?"
The manager shook his head, then nodded, saying:
"I don’t know the specifics, but I know a place the boss likely would have gone."
"Where?"
"A private strip club in the Southern Special Zone."
