Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 790 - 792: 【The Case of the Already Dead with a Throat-Slitting Footprint】
"There’s one more thing."
Trick Kennedy put down his wine glass, stood up, and went over to a bookshelf. He found a folder and handed it to Luo An, speaking somewhat helplessly:
"The Deputy Director of the FBI Washington Headquarters, Mr. Ferdinand, sent me a case today, instructing me to have someone investigate it thoroughly.
There are plenty of investigation teams at the Washington Headquarters, but the only team leader I truly trust is you, Luo An."
Trick Kennedy actually didn’t want to take on this case; previously, he always served as the Chief of the Internal Threat Office, and although he had many subordinates, few could handle this kind of case.
However, having just taken over Mr. Clement’s position, it would seem rather incompetent to pass off the first case that came his way, so Trick Kennedy reluctantly accepted it.
Earlier, Trick Kennedy had carefully reviewed the case files and felt this case was quite complicated. He was a bit worried that Luo An wouldn’t want to take it on.
So, while Luo An was reading the contents of the folder, Trick Kennedy added in a low voice:
"As we enter the new year, the FBI Washington Headquarters has already started the budget preparation process, calculating the case handling funds for each department this year.
The overall person in charge of the budget is Deputy Director Mr. Ferdinand."
Luo An’s gaze shifted, and he put the folder down and looked up to ask:
"Chief, is there a deadline for investigating and solving this case?
Also, when is the cut-off date for the budget calculation?"
"There’s no stipulated timeframe within which the case must be solved."
Trick Kennedy’s mouth curved into a smile, and he patted Luo An on the shoulder, saying with a laugh:
"Regarding the deadline for the budgeting process, there’s still a month and a half left."
"OK."
Luo An smiled slightly, closed the folder, and began to chat with Trick Kennedy about topics related to the charity dinner.
After the dinner was over, Luo An and Mona drove away together; they took a day off on Sunday, and on Monday morning, the two drove to the "Insomnia Building" not far from the Washington Headquarters.
The special investigation team’s office area was first arrived at by Michelle and Winslow, followed closely by Luo An and Mona, then Chenier, with Reesi arriving last.
"Good morning, everyone!"
Pushing the door open into the office area, Reesi shouted loudly and then began cheerily distributing food to everyone:
"I just bought breakfast, let’s eat together!"
Accepting the hot chicken roll, Winslow’s expression was quite surprised:
"What’s going on? Reesi, are you getting married?"
On the first day of every week for work, Reesi would come into the office area as if she had lost all her bones, twisting and turning listlessly to sit in her chair, casually grabbing a pack of food to nibble from others, and then finding a comfortable position to sleep on the desk.
This was the first time Winslow had seen Reesi so energetic and distributing breakfast she bought to everyone.
Chenier and Michelle were also quite surprised by this, and Mona, taking a sandwich, turned her eyes and asked with a smile:
"Reesi, did you meet a new pretty girl again?"
"No!"
After distributing the breakfast, Reesi crossed her arms in front of her chest, making a big ’X’ with her body towards Winslow and Mona, and then explained while smiling:
"I’ve been taking care of my body these past few days, not only have I not gone to bars or nightclubs, but I’ve also started to sleep early and get up early, and I’ve been learning yoga. Both my mental and physical states have improved a lot compared to before."
"Wow."
Winslow, Chenier, and Michelle were quite astonished, but since improving one’s health is good, all three gave Reesi a thumbs up.
Reesi stood proud with her hands on her hips. Mona, who knew Reesi’s nature even better, noticed a problem in Reesi’s words, so with narrowed eyes, she asked:
"Reesi, you said you’re learning yoga. Who is your yoga instructor? Male or female?"
"..."
The smile on Reesi’s face suddenly froze, and instantly realizing what was implied, Chenier spoke in a speechless tone:
"You wouldn’t be using the excuse of exercising and adjusting your health to get a chance to approach that female yoga teacher, would you?"
Reesi gave an embarrassed smile, put down her hands akimbo, and said:
"I wouldn’t put it that way, I really was preparing to take care of my body, and meeting that beautiful female yoga teacher... was just a beautiful accident."
Winslow, Michelle and Mona all rolled their eyes at once, Chenier was about to say something else when Luo An pushed open the door to the team leader’s office and came out:
"Everyone, put aside the yoga teacher matter for now, we’ve got a new case."
Everyone immediately perked up, took the folders handed out by Luo An, and after finishing distributing the folders, Luo An walked to the whiteboard at the front of the office area and introduced:
"This case happened three days ago at dawn, the location is on a highway from Washington D.C. to New York State, a road that runs through a forest."
The agents looked through the case files, which showed that at 5:30 in the morning, a passerby discovered a Cadillac sedan parked inside the muddy ground beside the road.
The passerby initially planned to approach the Cadillac to tell the driver that parking there was not allowed.
But just upon approaching the Cadillac’s driver’s seat, a male cadaver with a slit throat appeared before the passerby.
"The deceased is named Imre, 53 years old this year, the owner of a car rental company, no children, no wife, just one dog and two cats at home."
Luo An continued:
"The passerby called the police, and the forensic investigation team arrived at the scene. They discovered that someone had been sitting in the passenger seat of the Cadillac.
According to the wounds of the victim’s slit throat and the force exertion, the killer was the person in the passenger seat.
The forensic investigation team was lucky to find a strand of hair and fresh human skin flakes in the passenger seat.
The tests showed that they indeed came from the same person, who is very likely the killer of the victim, Imre."
"Doesn’t this mean that the case has been solved already?"
Reesi spread her hands, puzzled, and asked:
"The killer was the person in the passenger seat, the forensic investigation team got their DNA, just issue a warrant and have the police everywhere catch the person. Why transfer the case to us?"
"If it were that simple, that would be great."
Luo An tossed Reesi a piece of candy, telling her to eat the candy and stop talking, then continued:
"At the crime scene, in the muddy ground, there were footprints of the person from the passenger seat.
The footprints were not large, but they were somewhat messy, and did not head towards the highway but went straight into the forest nearby.
The forensic investigation team followed the footprints into the forest and soon found traces suggesting a struggle.
At the scene of the struggle, besides the passenger’s footprints, another person’s footprints were also discovered."
"Another party?"
Winslow asked with a stern face:
"Who is this new guy that popped up?"
"Don’t know, not too many clues were found at the scene.
The final conclusion from the forensic investigation team is that the third party knocked down the person from the passenger seat, then carried the person back to the road, and drove away from the forest."
Luo An pinned all the photos from the crime scene to the whiteboard, turned to look at the agents, and said in a grave voice:
"While investigating the third party, the forensic investigation team found that the footprints left by the third party in the mud were exactly the same as those of a killer from another case.
That case happened a month ago, the victim was named Leisha, 27 years old, working for a lobbying company in Washington D.C."
Chenier’s expression darkened slightly and she said:
"So, this is a serial killing case?"
"Possibly."
Luo An nodded, turned his gaze to Mona, and Mona opened her laptop to show everyone, saying:
"The problem is, the FBI’s records indicate that this Leisha had already died 20 years ago."
