Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 796 - 798: The Basement
The shadow chose the timing precisely, as the professionally trained SWAT team members, upon encountering an explosion, instinctively bent over and covered their heads to protect themselves. π³ππππππππ πππ.π°π π¦
As such, when the agents unconsciously bent over to avoid the blast, the sudden emergence of the shadow did not attract too much attention.
Two SWAT officers, who had not gone upstairs and were still searching in the kitchen on the first floor, did notice the shadow and shouted loudly:
"Target spotted!"
"Heβs here! Heβs trying to escape!"
Before the two could finish, the shadow had already charged towards the apartment entrance. The SWAT officers stationed outside the apartment for surveillance were startled by the sudden explosion on the second floor.
The two looked up instinctively, but out of the corner of their eyes, they suddenly spotted a dark figure rushing towards them.
"Fu-k!"
"Damn it!"
The two on-duty agents immediately guessed that the explosion upstairs was a distraction created by the shadow to divert attention so he could break out of the encirclement; they quickly raised their guns, ready to block his escape route.
A hint of disdain flashed in the shadowβs eyes. Before the two SWAT officers could fully raise their gun barrels, he had already drawn his prepared handgun, ready to pull the trigger.
Bang!
The next second, a gunshot rang out. The SWAT officers outside the apartment flinched but were unharmed, while the shadowβs pupils shrank, and a painful expression appeared on his face.
The hand that was holding the gun, his right hand, had been hit by a bullet, and the handgun uncontrollably slipped from his grasp and fell to the ground.
Before the shadow could look to see who had fired the shot, he only felt a whoosh by his ear, followed by a tremendous force kicking him in the shins. With no strength to resist, the shadow stumbled forward and knelt down.
Snapβ
A foot kicked the handgun on the ground far away, and Luo An stood beside the shadow, pointing a gun emotionlessly at his head:
"Get down, donβt move."
The one who had shot the shadow in the right hand and swiftly moved behind him to kick him down was Luo An.
The moment the shadow burst from the stairs, Luo Anβs "emotional perception" had detected him and prepared to intercept.
At the same time, "emotional perception" also picked up a danger signal coming from the second floor of the apartment.
Compared to capturing the target, Luo An was more concerned about the safety of the SWAT team members and people like Winslow, so he shouted a warning for them to be wary of an ambush.
As it turned out, Luo Anβs decision was very correct. Because of Luo Anβs warning, the SWAT members and Winslow stopped on the stairs and did not enter the second floor.
The severe explosion only caused some wood chips and stones to strike them a few times; overall, they suffered no serious harm, and there were no fatalities.
As for the shadow, the moment he burst out, Luo An had immediately turned his gun to aim at him. Seeing the shadow intending to kill the guards at the door, Luo An chose to shoot the weapon from his hand first, then move in for the capture.
The shadow, lying on the ground from Luo Anβs kick, had shock written all over his eyes, finding Luo Anβs precise marksmanship and terrifying movement speed hard to comprehend.
As he ran out from under the stairs, the shadow had briefly surveyed the living room situation; this handsome agent had been standing at the very back of the room, the farthest away from him!
Yet, Luo An had moved behind him so quickly! And, how could this guy be so strong!
A multitude of questions swirled in the shadowβs mind, and as he gulped, he found it incomprehensible. But now was not the time to contemplate these matters. The shadow had never given up on the idea of striking back and escaping, and his head suddenly dodged Luo Anβs handgun, while his left hand drew a dagger from his sleeve and slashed at Luo Anβs wrist!
Since you wonβt let me hold a gun with my right hand, then neither should your hand!
A cold glint flashed in the shadowβs eyes, planning to cut Luo Anβs wrist first, then take him hostage, threatening others to leave with his life.
The plan was simple and had a high chance of success. Clenching his molars, the shadow quickened the speed of his flying dagger!
Ding!
The sound of metal clashing echoed as the shadowβs expression froze because Luo An held his gun against the assailantβs dagger, making it impossible for the attacker to proceed any further.
The shadow looked up at Luo An incredulously. Luo An remained expressionless, calmly lifting his foot and kicking towards the shadowβs chest.
Thudβ
A muffled sound erupted as the shadow slammed back against the apartmentβs outer wall like a cannonball, intense pain in the chest causing the corner of his mouth to twitch involuntarily, unable to speak before a mouthful of fresh blood spurted out, splattering the ground.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Then four gunshots rang out, with the shadow receiving two wounds on each of his legs. Luo An chose to ignore the murderous glare from the figure, holstering his pistol and walking back to the apartment, and without turning his head, he said to the two SWAT officers on standby outside:
"Take the person into custody, and remember to call an ambulance."
"...Understood!"
The two SWAT agents, faces etched with shock, hesitated for a moment and then quickly responded to the order, suppressing their admiration as they hurried toward the shadow. Despite the blood all over his chin, the general shape of his face unchanged, it was indeed Thonaka Hyde, the target of this operation.
Inside the apartment, several SWAT officers and Winslowβs group emerged from the stairs looking disheveled and uneasy:
"Sorry, Group Leader Luo An, the rooms on the second floor were rigged with remote-controlled bombs by Thonaka Hyde."
Everyone was angry but also relieved, following mines now bombs, if it hadnβt been for Luo Anβs warning, who knows what could have happened today.
Thinking this, several SWAT officersβ gazes were filled with gratitude toward Luo An. The rumor was true: casualties were definitely low when going on operations with Group Leader Luo An!
"Itβs fine, as long as no one got hurt."
Luo An said with a smile patting their shoulders. It was then that Chenier came down from below the stairs, saying solemnly:
"Leader, thereβs an underground chamber, and thereβs something inside."
Luo An immediately went to Chenier, and under her lead, found that there were more stairs beneath the staircase, somewhat steep. They descended slowly, and a spacious underground chamber appeared in front of Luo An.
The underground chamber itself was unremarkable, still dingy despite the light bulbs, with a metal barrel by the table at the far end of the room, emitting trails of smoke above it.
"Inside, thereβs a laptop and a mobile phone."
Chenier, using a pair of tongs and covering her nose, retrieved the items from the barrel, frowning:
"Clearly, Thonaka intended to destroy them."
"Hand them over to the Forensic Science Service."
Without lingering on the charred barrel, Luo Anβs gaze quickly shifted. On the other side of the basement, there was a low bed with handcuffs welded to the headboard, obviously meant to restrain someone.
Chenierβs brow furrowed:
"Ashiya is not here."
Luo An bent down and searched under the bed. He found no female clothing or personal items but found plenty of long hair. After several seconds of careful observation, his eyebrows slightly furrowed:
"The colors of these hairs vary; aside from Ashiya, it seems other women have been locked up here too."
"Son of a bitch."
Chenier muttered under her breath, then said:
"The second floor has been blown apart, and thereβs not much evidence in the first floor and the basement to reveal what kind of person Thonaka really is."
Turning to walk out of the basement, Luo An was not phased:
"No worries, the man has been captured. We can have a talk with him."
After handing over the follow-up work at the apartment to the Forensic Science Service, the next day, Luo An began the formal interrogation of Thonaka Hyde within the specialist investigation team.
From day to night, Thonaka sat in the chair, uttering not a single word.
