Thursday, Georgia - Atlanta, a hotel suite.

Luo An led the special investigation team, boarding a flight from Washington D.C to here. They rested for one night and began gathering information the next day.

"Hmm..."

At the dining table, Michelle was sitting in front of the computer, tapping the keyboard. Suddenly, she wore a puzzled expression, wanting to speak but stopping. Seeing this, Luo An was a little confused:

"Michelle, did you discover any clues?"

"Uh, not exactly, it's just..."

Michelle's expression grew increasingly peculiar. Seeing Luo An's puzzled look, she awkwardly smiled, showing the computer screen to Luo An, and explained:

"I just checked Anatoli's past experiences, trying to see if any clues could be found, and then I discovered that this person..."

Michelle got halfway through the sentence but didn't know how to continue. Luo An turned his gaze to the computer screen and carefully examined Anatoli's past experiences.

Anatoli was born into a wealthy family. Before he grew up, his father became addicted to gambling, losing the family fortune in just a year, then he turned to alcohol and domestic violence against his wife and children.

Anatoli's mother was once beaten to death by his father, leading to Anatoli developing some mental illnesses and hemophobia.

After his father was arrested and imprisoned, Anatoli was sent to an orphanage. A few years later, the orphanage closed due to a lack of financial resources. Anatoli was nearly two years shy of adulthood then, but age never stops one from entering the school of society.

Anatoli first joined an auto repair shop as an apprentice. The shop owner expanded the business and planned to open a branch; however, he was suddenly arrested for tax issues, causing the shop to go bankrupt.

Anatoli then found a job as a waiter at a restaurant. The restaurant flourished for a while and then encountered a fire, burning it to ruins.

Anatoli later worked at a bakery, a grocery store, and a supermarket. Each place initially thrived, then faced unexpected misfortunes, leading to failure.

When Anatoli joined a treasure hunting ship, they set sail, and within less than six months, the team found a shipwreck and gold... then they got double-crossed.

"..."

After reading the information on the computer, Luo An's eyelids twitched, and Michelle, with an odd expression, whispered after a brief silence:

"It should be a coincidence. Anatoli has worked in gun shops and hospitals before, and there were no issues there."

Luo An nodded without speaking, pushing the computer back to Michelle, signaling her to continue looking for clues.

"I'm back!"

At this moment, Reesi walked into the room, raising the folder in her hand, saying:

"Luo An, I've got the details from the Atlanta police about the night of the incident."

"Good, thank you for your hard work."

Luo An carefully examined the folder, while Michelle inquired about the details of that night, to which Reesi seriously responded:

"According to the Atlanta police, on the night of the incident, about 8 people launched a surprise attack on a rental house.

There were 10 people in the rental house, and initially, they didn't react, so they were caught on the spot.

During the process, somehow, a few grenades were detonated, killing 2 of the attackers, while 6 of the captured individuals were killed in the explosion.

The 4 remaining people in the rental house tried to escape, but the angry attackers shot 1 of them dead on the spot; only 3 people escaped by car amid the chaos, prompting a pursuit by the attackers."

Michelle nodded slightly upon hearing this, perfectly corresponding to Anatoli's testimony.

Reesi continued:

"The noise from the grenade explosion was significant, prompting patrol officers in the nearby area to drive over to investigate.

On their way, one patrol car had a flat tire, another broke down, and a third accidentally crashed into a tree.

By the time more police followed the pursuers' trail to reach a factory in Atlanta's suburbs, the fight had ended, and a raging fire engulfed the site.

The police were unable to extinguish the blaze and had to call the fire department; police forces were only dispatched to examine the factory ruins the next day."

"..."

After listening to Reesi's description, Michelle was speechless.

Flat tires and breakdowns she could accept, but crashing into a tree seemed too much?

Reesi shrugged, indicating that Atlanta is known for its straightforward and talented citizens across the Federation. Plus, the police funding is limited and decreasing annually, so it was just a little mistake by an overexcited officer, nothing major.

"It's okay, this document provides us with quite a few leads."

Seeing Michelle's discontent, Luo An gently shook his head and smiled faintly, pointing at the folder:

"According to the police, they found 9 charred corpses in the burning factory afterward.

That night in the factory, there were three factions: the pursuers, the treasure hunting team, and the counterfeit money-making team.

Anatoli mentioned during the interrogation that when the three of them drove into the factory, there were 6 people inside, who must be the counterfeit money team.

Adding the 6 pursuers, there were 15 people on-site. With Anatoli escaping, 14 people remained; 9 died, leaving 5 survivors.

No matter which faction these 5 people belonged to, all three factions suffered significant losses."

"Exactly."

Reesi nodded emphatically and continued:

"Mona has already gone to the Atlanta police's forensic department. It won't be long before we uncover the true identities of the deceased."

Michelle's eyes lit up:

"Then, we can follow the trail and find out who was making counterfeit money."

"Everyone, I'm back."

A few minutes later, Winslow and Chenier returned to the hotel suite, each taking a few sips of water. Chenier began to brief:

"Luo An, as per your request, Winslow and I have investigated the specifics of the factory where the counterfeit gang operated.

The factory owner is a man named Dant. Following the trail, we eventually found him at a nursing home."

"A nursing home?"

Reesi and Michelle were taken aback, Chenier nodded with an unpleasant expression, explaining:

"Dant is 86 years old and suffers from severe Alzheimer's, unable to speak, so we can't inquire about the factory.

Or rather, Dant probably doesn't even know he owns a factory."

"Moreover, counterfeit money has already flooded Atlanta's Underworld, and the exact quantity is unknown."

As Chenier's voice faded, Winslow added that many people using counterfeit money found it just lying around the suburbs of Atlanta.

"It seems to be from that big fire."

Luo An quickly came to a realization about the events, musing intensely:

"That fire didn't burn all the counterfeit money in the factory; quite a bit was likely blown away by the wind or snatched up by daring individuals amidst the chaos."

In the Federation Underground World, many people are adept at exploiting chaos, profiting from disasters, even making a living from it.

The group in the room fell into silence. Their target was to track and capture the counterfeit money team, but this case connected with another black-on-black crime. The available clues were numerous but not particularly helpful, proving to be quite troubling.

Riiiing—

At that moment, Luo An's phone rang. He pressed the answer key, and Mona's excited voice came through:

"Luo An, good news, I've identified who died in the factory fire that night!

Moreover, I've uncovered the identities of the people chasing Anatoli!"
