Demon warriors moved away from the fight to make room for it, forming a rough circle around the two fighters.

When the Titan’s corrupted greatsword hit Zara’s blade, it sounded like thunder. The shockwave from the hit knocked fighters nearby off their feet.

They hit each other at impossible speeds. Zara’s technique was perfect, and her strikes were strong and accurate.

But the Titan was just as strong as she was, and its corrupted blade seemed to absorb her attacks. Zara was slowly being pushed back, bit by bit.

And while she fought the Titan, enemies who had been corrupted started to surround her. Thirty or more were closing in from all sides, sensing a chance to take down the general.

Rick could tell that Zara knew they were there because her eyes kept darting around to see where they were. But she couldn’t fight them all off while she was fighting the Titan.

The Titan would kill her if she looked at the enemies around her. If she paid attention to the Titan, the enemies around her would kill her.

Zara was still smiling, even though things were going wrong. "This is what I live for!" she yelled, stopping another terrible blow from the Titan.

However, Rick’s superior perception allowed him to notice details that others might have overlooked. She was getting worn out.

Her movements were a little slower than they had been at the start of the battle. She would die if she made one mistake or hesitated for even a second.

Rick felt something harden in his chest. A certainty that went beyond logic or self-preservation.

"She’s one of the Seven Major Powers," he said in a low voice. "We can’t lose her."

Carmilla could tell right away what he wanted because of their Unbreakable Bond. "No, Rick, NO."

Rick said, "I have to," and then he stepped toward the battlefield.

Natasha stepped in front of him. "Are you fucking stupid?! You can barely walk!"

"Your Spirit Unity is worn out! And the Divine Aegis is not ready to use!"

"You’re 100% going to die!"

Rick said simply, "She needs help," feeling the dragon power start to wake up in his worn-out body.

Carmilla’s voice broke with need. "You said you wouldn’t face danger alone! And if you die, Sylvia will kill us all for not stopping you!"

Rick looked at his two partners, who had been with him through thick and thin. "Then I should stay alive because dying isn’t an option here."

"Don’t worry... trust my instinct and my gut. I need to take responsibility from this point forward!"

He made his body stand up straight, even though every muscle screamed at him to stop. His partial dragon transformation started, and scales rippled across his arms and chest.

His wings burst from his back in a shower of golden light. There wasn’t enough power for a full change because his tired body just couldn’t take it.

He began to walk toward the battlefield, and with each step, he fought against his own body.

Carmilla and Natasha both tried to physically stop him, but Rick sent a pulse through their bonds. "Believe me... please..."

"I don’t want you to act like this. Please believe me when I say I know what I’m doing."

Tears were welling up in Carmilla’s eyes. "You said we’d face everything together!"

"You said you wouldn’t go into danger alone again!"

Rick’s answer was kind but firm. "I’m not by myself."

"You are all with me. I carry your strength with me every step I take."

"That’s what the bonds stand for."

Natasha’s voice was chilly, and she was barely able to control her feelings. "This is crazy!"

Rick couldn’t help but smile a little. "Welcome to my world."

He started to run, and even though his hurt body protested loudly, it did what he said. Demon warriors moved aside in shock as the human consort, who could barely stand a few minutes ago, charged toward the most dangerous part of the battlefield.

The Corruption Titan raised its giant fist on the other side of the fight. Zara was surrounded and couldn’t get away without putting herself in danger of being attacked from all sides. The Titan’s fist came down, and it would kill her by crushing her skull like an egg.

Rick’s voice was loud enough to be heard across the battlefield. "ZARA! GET OUT OF THE WAY!"

His wings spread fully as he leaped, catching air despite his exhaustion. He was stuck between the ground and the sky for a moment, a small person standing out against the burning sunset, standing between the demon general and certain death.

The Titan’s fist kept going down. Rick was too weak, small, and slow.

The math in the situation was simple and harsh. He couldn’t stop this from happening.

He could only die with Zara instead of letting her die alone.

Zara’s eyes got bigger, and for the first time, her focus on the fight broke. "What are you—?!"

"RICK!" Carmilla’s scream echoed across the battlefield.

Natasha’s voice joined hers. "NO!"

All of the demon warriors who could see the fight stopped in shock. The human consort was putting himself in the way of a deadly blow meant for their general.

It was a suicide thing to do by Rick, and it was a crazy move. It was the most foolishly brave thing anyone had ever seen.

The Corruption Titan’s fist was three feet away.

Two feet.

One foot.

Rick closed his eyes, bracing himself for what was coming.

A flurry of system notifications began pouring in rapidly.

Rick thought Sebastian’s voice was strangely soft. "And this is how we die."

Sylvia felt the death crisis in the Northern Peaks through their bond. Her roar of anger and fear shook the mountains as she took off, her wings beating as fast as they could.

But she was still hours away, even at her fastest speed. It’s too late to save him.

In Valdris, Liora fell to the ground during evening prayers and gasped, "No... not again..." as she felt Rick’s life force start to fade through their Spiritual Link.

The Titan’s fist hit.

There was a huge impact happening until it made a lot of sand fog that covered both Rick and the titan. Those who watched were in shock, especially Carmilla and Natasha, who were already crying, knowing that Rick probably won’t survive that one impactful attack.

But, in fact, they were wrong...

When the sand fog starts thinning, all of them can see a huge demon stopped the hit from Rick, who got thrown away by the impact, but Zara manages to catch him and protect him just to see him smile, knowing that her husband has finally arrived.

It was the Demon King, even though he’s old and retired. He still has it in him.

All the demons started to celebrate and shouted loudly, saying his name with full of respect.
