Chapter 156: 156. Different Kinds of Love

The healing felt like warm honey flowing through his veins, easing pain and fixing the wounded tissues. Rick let out a groan of relief as the pain started to go away.

"Ahhhhhh~! Oh god, that feels so good," he said. "You are a saint, Liora. Like, for real... a true saint or even better... my angel."

"Actually, I’m a High Priestess," Liora said with a playful smile. "Saints are a whole other type of person, but for the angel one... I do appreciate the thought, though."

As she worked, her hands moved over his body with practiced efficiency, finding every injury and taking care of it with care, but her touch was more than just a way to heal. She felt tenderness, love, and a need to comfort and care for him that went beyond what she had to do as a priestess.

"You know," Liora said softly as she worked on a particularly nasty set of scratches on his back, "watching you form bonds with all these incredible women, seeing how much they love you and how much you love them in return, it makes me happy."

"Well... Not in an envious or insecure way, but I’m just really happy to see you’ve improved a lot as the Hero of Mature Hearts."

"Really?" Rick asked. "Even though I have marks all over me from another woman?"

"That’s why," Liora said. "You live fully and love openly, without holding back because you’re afraid or ashamed."

"That’s the kind of life the divine powers want for all of their children."

"Your life should be guided not by guilt and restriction, but by connection and joy."

She turned to face him, her hands on his cheeks. "I knew what I was getting into when I got close to you, Rick."

"I knew you would love and be with other people. And I chose to be a part of that because what we have is so special that I don’t need to be your only one to feel loved."

"MY GOD~! SHE’S REALLY AN ANGEL OF LOVE!" Rick already fell so much in love with Liora that he wanted to go have sex with her here and now, but he can’t because his balls are currently empty.

Rick leaned into her touch and felt the warmth of her divine energy and the love in her eyes. "You make it sound so simple... it’s like loving more than one person isn’t hard or complicated."

Liora laughed and said, "Oh, it’s definitely hard and complicated, but that’s how life works most of the time."

"What’s important is that we talk, respect each other’s feelings, and appreciate what we have."

She gave him a soft hug, and Rick hugged her back, taking in the soft floral smell that always surrounded her. This was not the same as Zara’s passionate hug or Sylvia’s possessive hold.

The feeling was comfort, safety, and the sense of being accepted no matter what. "Hmmm... ahhh... she smells so good..."

Rick kissed her cheek to get the chance and said, "Thank you."

"Thank you for your patience with me, for understanding this crazy situation, and for being exactly what I need when I need it."

Liora said, "That’s what love is."

"Being there for each other in any way that is needed."

"Sometimes it’s passion, other times it’s comfort, and other times it’s just being together in silence."

She pulled back a little and kissed his forehead, her lips were warm against his skin. "Your physical injuries are healed now, but I feel like you need something else."

"Come, sit with me."

Liora took him to a cushioned bench by the window and sat down next to him. Then, to Rick’s surprise, she told him to lay his head in her lap.

"W-Wait... can you repeat that?"

"Lay your head on my lap like a pillow." She said while patting her own lap.

"OH SHIT! THE FAMOUS LAP PILLOW I WANTED FOR YEARS!!!" Rick screamed in his mind.

Rick lay on her lap and felt the heavenly sensation that can’t be replaced by anything else and then got hit by a combo where Liora began to run her fingers gently through his hair.

"You’re carrying so much weight inside your head," she said softly, fully in mommy mode. "Becoming Demon King, losing Zork, fighting corruption, and dealing with five powerful women."

"Rick, you can take a break once in a while, and sometimes... it’s okay to just let someone take care of you."

Rick felt something inside him relax, a tension he didn’t even know he had. When was the last time someone had just appreciated him like this? Just pure comfort and care, without expecting anything or feeling rushed or pressured?

"This is... so nice and relaxing that it made me want to sleep again," he mumbled, already feeling sleepy from the healing and gentle love.

"Ehehehe... go ahead and sleep," Liora said. "I’ll keep an eye on you."

"That’s one of the things I’m here for."

Rick’s eyes began to close, temporarily allowing someone else to take care of him. He was able to be open and safe around Liora because she was there to protect him.

It was a different kind of closeness than what he had with Zara, but it was just as important.

...

Rick woke up an hour later feeling completely rested. Liora was still there, still gently stroking his hair, and looking down at him with such love that it made his chest hurt.

"Do you feel any better, sweetie...?" she asked.

Rick said, "Much better," as he sat up and stretched.

He felt great now, with no more aches or pains. "Do you know how great you are at doing that...? You’re total mommy material."

"I’ve been told, and I can be a real mommy if you want." Liora said with a wink.

"Oh shit! I just hit a route I shouldn’t have crossed yet at this point." Rick said in his mind, but then he changed the subject fast. "Um... where are Carmilla and Natasha?"

"Oh my... I just got rejected..." Liora said, a sad expression crossing her face as she held her cheek.

"N-No! I didn’t try to reject you or anything!" Rick grabbed both her hands quickly. "I’ll make that a dream come true when I’m ready... okay...?"

"Mm..." Liora smiled and then gently kissed his lips for a moment, and both of them began to find enjoyment in the moment.

After the kiss, Liora starts to look outside the window and says, "I think Carmilla and Natasha were looking for you earlier, but you were asleep on my lap."

"They’re probably doing training exercises outside...?

Rick let out a groan. "Of course they were... those two never stop training at all."

"I’m going to find them."

"Okay, be careful on your way there." Liora patted his head, and then Rick left right away before he couldn’t.

After walking outside, he found Carmilla and Natasha in the mansion’s training yard, which was big and had practice dummies and weapon racks. Both women were in their training clothes, and it looked like they had been doing sparring while they waited for him.

Carmilla said, "There you are," when she saw him. "We were starting to believe that Zara had really killed you."

Rick said, "She almost did, but Liora fixed me up."

"So... what’s this about training?"

Natasha moved closer, her icy blue eyes looking him over like a doctor. "We’ve been looking at how well you did in combat on the last few missions."

"Your tactics and decision-making have gotten a lot better, but your actual combat skills are still not up to par for someone of your level and responsibilities."

"W-What...?" Rick looked confused.

Carmilla said, "You must learn to fight properly instead of relying on your bonds and skills."

Rick wanted to argue, but they were right. He won most of the time by using his Spirit Bond powers in smart ways or by having his bonded partners do the hard work.

He was still pretty terrible at fighting one-on-one without the help of his bonded partners.

"Okay," he said with a sigh. "What did you have in mind?"

Carmilla and Natasha looked at each other and showed the same scary smirks that made Rick shiver. "I don’t like the smile of that."

The next two hours consisted of intense training that felt even more painful than Zara’s love for Rick. Carmilla taught him sword forms and how to defend himself, correcting his stance and grip with the patience of a dedicated teacher and the ruthlessness of a battle-hardened warrior.

Natasha worked on his tactical awareness by giving him different situations and making him make quick decisions. When he messed up, she told him exactly what he did wrong and what he should have done instead.

But at least Rick could still feel their love and concern through their bonds. They weren’t telling him to be cruel or show off how much better they were at things. They really wanted him to get better, be safer, and have the tools he needed to keep himself and others safe.

Rick was drenched in sweat when Carmilla finally called it quits, but he felt strangely accomplished. His muscles hurt again, but this time it was the beneficial pain of a workout that worked instead of the pain of Zara’s love.

"Phew~! That was a good training session!"
