Life didn't get easier, even in another world-Chapter 10
Chapter 10: A nice meeting.
Kairen was thrown out of the room.
“....”
The hall where the professors’ rooms were placed was silent and peaceful. Kairen stood there, blankly staring at the door he just exited. He looked down at his wrist where the tracker had been placed. There was nothing visible on it.
His body was still slightly shaking and his back was wet by cold sweat. He started walking towards the exit, his face pale and his movements stiff.
‘I should really get out of this crazy world as soon as possible...’
Kairen really missed his home right now. He didn’t have a good salary nor a big house, he ate trash food and had at least one fight with his brother every 2 days, it wasn’t that much of a peaceful life. But still, there was no one threatening him with torture!
‘But that power he talked about...’
.....
Professor Exell talked about a terrorist attack and the power they used on their weapons. He also asked how he got his hands on that power. Even Kairen could understand that these two were related to each other. That goddamned Kairen 1 had used a power in his exam that apparently had something to do with that terrorist group.
How did he do that? Was he really related to them?
‘Such a mysterious person...’
Kairen decided to read that old notebook as soon as possible to see if there were any clues on it or not. It was already lunchtime so he went straight to the cafeteria. He had arrived early as there were few people there. Kairen picked up his food and sat down on an empty table.
“Hey, you were here!”
He heard a girl’s voice at the moment. Serria came and sat down on the chair across from him with her food. She could see Reyan also walking this way as she started talking again.
“It’s been some time since we ate together!”
“...”
Serria said those words while happily stuffing her food into her mouth. Kairen wasn’t in a mood to chitchat with this girl now so he just stared at her silently.
“We literally ate together last night!” f𝗿𝙚e𝙬𝗲𝑏𝒏𝑜ѵ𝑒𝗹. 𝒄𝑜𝘮
And it was Reyan who answered her. Reyan who had also arrived at some point sat down on the chair beside Kairen and started eating.
“Oh no, I meant lunch. You guys have been trying so hard to hide something that you even changed the time you would always eat lunch.!”
“Ah shit, here we go again!”
“I will find out what it is! I swear I will!”
“Yeah Yeah do what you want!”
‘Isn’t it ok to just tell her? Isn’t she a friend? It will be easier than arguing with her every time.’
When Kairen was having that thought, Reyan asked him a question.
“Oh right Kairen, did you meet the professor?”
It was an attempt to change the topic as well as to relive his own curiosity. Serria and Reyan both turned to Kairen.
Kairen coughed a few times after hearing that question. It made him remember what had happened and suddenly feel nervous again. Professor Exell told him that he had to keep the contents of the meeting a secret. He actually was good at making things up, but not now that he was tired and nervous. He opened his mouth saying whatever he could think of at the moment.
“Ah, that! We had a nice conversation. He asked me about... um... my accident. He was really worried. Yeah and... and he gave me some advice... regarding my future. It was a really... peaceful meeting...”
Kairen said those while avoiding their eyes and gave an awkward smile at the end. He started rubbing his left wrist and looking at the air afterward.
“....”
“....”
Reyan and Serria looked closely at him. It was just then that they realized Kairen’s pale face and slightly shaking hands. Sweat was formed on his forehead and he was nervously biting his lips.
Kairen flinched, seeing a frown form on the two’s faces.
‘Did I mess up?’
He peeked at them for a moment, they had stopped eating and were staring at him with a frown. Kairen was sure that he had indeed messed up. It felt really uncomfortable being under two people’s gazes. He tried his best to ignore them and eat his food.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
He heard Reyan’s somewhat worried voice, but he didn’t give an answer. With everything that happened so far, Kairen was mentally too tired to deal with these two now as well. He just shook his head and went back to eating his food while staring at the air again.
“Oh, sir Heartz! how does it feel now? YOU FEEL ME NOW! HEHEHE! I am not the only one left out of secrets now!”
Serria laughed and said as if she finally got her revenge or something, making Reyan even more annoyed.
“Can you stop joking? It’s serious!”
“Ok ok, Mr. Serious!”
Serria was still laughing and talking in a playful manner but she kept on glancing at Kairen now and then. Reyan was looking at him as well. He opened and closed his mouth a few times but didn’t say anything in the end. It felt like he was holding back his questions since Serria was here. He then turned his head and stared at Serria.
“Don’t look at me like that Reyan, I won’t leave.”
“Tch!”
Kairen didn’t mind these two people arguing as he was lost in thought. Professor Exell told him that he could hand him over to The Special Military Forces. He could guess its meaning by the things he knew from his previous world. He heard that there existed different military units in every country that would deal with different tasks. If it was related to them, then what Kairen 1 had done was most probably nothing simple. And also, if professor Exell could get in touch with them, then... was he really just a mere professor?
Kairen felt his heart go cold again imagining what shit he may find himself in, in the future. He cursed that damn Kairen in his mind as he went back to eating. He angrily dipped his fork into the meat and picked it up, placing it into his mouth.
Reyan and Serria stopped their argument as they looked at Kairen’s grumpy face.
“...”
“...”
They looked back at each other, exchanging meaningful glances.
‘What happened?’
‘Shit! Did we annoy him?’
‘Oh no.’
‘Let’s stop and just eat.’
The Kairen they knew wasn’t someone to get angry so easily. But if he got really mad... well, it wouldn’t be a nice sight! Even if he was slightly annoyed, an angry Kairen wasn’t something they wanted to deal with right now. So they silently agreed to continue their fight later on and now just eat their food. Feeling the sudden silence, Kairen looked at the two with confusion but didn’t say anything as this peace was welcome.
Just like that, they all ate their lunch and went back to their rooms.
As soon as Kairen arrived at his room, he changed his clothes, picked up the notebook, and plopped down on his bed. Reyan asked him some questions about the meeting but he avoided answering them somehow. He started reading the notebook carefully. In the beginning, most words were written hastily, as if the author was in a hurry. It felt like he was struggling with something in his mind while writing them. But the more he continued, it became more steady and meaningful. Well, it was still hard to understand as he didn’t know what it was talking about. It was as if you were reading a story or a poem the more you continued. It felt like these words told stories that haven’t yet happened.
But there was something he was sure about.
‘This dude knew something about that dark gray light and those cracks. And also about the eclipse as well.’
He looked at the page he was reading now.
[It that dark day, the shadow of calamity swallowed up the sky, dragging the world into an eternal conflict, bringing a new era by itself. A catastrophe, a pain, once again, once more.]
