Chapter 192. A Catastrophe
A single spear hurled through the air toward Ushas.
The already massive spear grew even larger and larger as it neared, promising to tear Ushas apart.
“Ha.”
With a disdainful snort, Ushas raised his hand. A thin barrier of mana spread before him, halting the spear in mid-air. Despite its unrelenting force, the spear couldn’t pierce through.
"Say it," Ushas demanded coldly. "What have you done to my sister?"
Kim Do-Joon had told Siwelin the bitter truth that her enemy was her god’s brother. Yet, not even that revelation softened her resolve. Ushas was the nemesis of Laoha, and by extension, her own. Blood ties meant nothing to her, especially in a world where myths regularly pit divine siblings against each other.
Siwelin stayed silent, repulsed by the thought of speaking to him. Instead, she flicked one of her radiant wings ever so slightly.
“Ugh!”
The spear surged forward with renewed vigor. Ushas' eyes widened as it tore through the barrier. The initial crack was small, but that was all it took. Like a dam with its first fissure, the shield collapsed in an instant.
Ushas twisted himself, narrowly avoiding a direct hit. Even he could not hope to survive such a strike unscathed.
Bababam—!
The spear struck the ground with an earth-shattering explosion. Ushas escaped with only a minor cut on his shoulder.
However, Laoha’s divine power seeped into the wound, gnawing into him like poison.
“How tiresome,” Ushas muttered, unshaken.
Calmly, Calmly, he tore away the damaged chunk of his shoulder and discarded it. Then, his divine authority swiftly reversed the injury as if it had never been.
Siwelin’s expression hardened. The sight was both disturbing and infuriating.
"Drake!"
Just then, a voice called out.
Ushas turned around slightly, noticing familiar faces gathering behind Siwelin. One figure stood at the forefront, his voice trembling with emotion.
“Huh? Is that you, Walter?” Ushas murmured, recognizing the man instantly.
The one who called Ushas was Walter, the man at the front of the group. He had been one of the few who had been loyal to Ushas in the Mercenary Guild. In other words, Ushas had invested quite a bit of effort in him. Of course, now it all seemed like a meaningless waste of time.
“So it was you... You’re the one behind all this!” Walter shouted, his lips trembling with barely restrained rage.
“And?” Ushas replied, nonchalantly picking his ear.
Walter gritted his teeth, trembling as he pointed his sword at Ushas. Despite all Ushas had done for him in the past, there was no room for forgiveness.
Siwelin took advantage of the moment. Radiant light flared around her as she soared toward Ushas, wielding twin blades of divine energy.
“Tsk,” Ushas clicked his tongue as he leapt back.
A bolt of violet lightning shot from his hand, crackling toward Siwelin. It was one of the divine authorities that he had seized after defeating the old man—a blinding light that once ruled the night sky.
Divine and profane energies clashed in midair, a chaotic swirl of opposing forces. Ushas’ death energy was a natural enemy to Siwelin’s divine power, yet it faltered when confronted head-on. The strength of his death energy lay in subversion, creeping into his foes rather than meeting them outright.
Ushas made his choice. He abandoned his dark power, summoning another form of mana to repel the assault.
However, he overlooked one critical detail.
Pzzzz
“What the?!” Ushas panicked.
Consumed by a burning desire for revenge, Siwelin had no intention of holding back. Despite being scattered as a form of deterrence, his lightning power was still insane. Yet, Siwelin didn’t hesitate to charge right into it.
The lightning burrowed through her Divine Descent, injuring her. However, she managed to sink one of her radiant blades into Ushas’ shoulder.
“Gah!” Ushas gasped, inhaling sharply.
The divine energy in the blade was poison to his very being. It spread rapidly, eroding him from within.
However, Siwelin was far from finished. She raised her second blade, preparing to strike again.
Suddenly, her instincts screamed, and she flung herself backward just in time.
Boom—!
The next moment, the ground where she had stood erupted in a violent explosion. Ushas smirked as he rose, unscathed, astride a massive Bone Dragon. His previously injured shoulder was miraculously healed.
“You’re sharper than I thought,” Ushas remarked, his smirk widening.
Siwelin’s gaze dropped to the ground. A glowing mana circle pulsed faintly where the explosion had occurred.
As the light faded, the stabbed Ushas began to dissipate as well. It had all been a mere illusion.
“You didn’t think I’d wait around without setting traps, did you?” Ushas taunted, shrugging his shoulders. “You walked right into my web.”
Ushas smirked and shrugged. He was right, because both Kim Do-Joon and Siwelin had willingly walked straight into his maw. One had to be extremely cautious around traps like that.
Besides, their opponent was a necromancer. He was a master of every kind of forbidden spell, from the foulest curses to the most twisted sorcery.
The next moment, Siwelin shot up into the air, heading straight toward the Bone Dragon. She brought her sword down in a powerful arc. Though her swordsmanship was far from impressive, the force wasn’t something to be taken lightly.
The Bone Dragon twisted itself to dodge the strike. Even so, the sheer impact shattered several of its bones. For an undead, however, that pain meant nothing.
Swoosh—!
The Bone Dragon swung its tail with force, and Siwelin wrapped herself in her wings to block the blow.
Thud!
Then, with a heavy, muffled sound, the tail came crashing down. The strike did not land, but the sheer force sent her flying backward.
Ushas’ lips curled into a wicked smile as he watched her opponent struggle.
“Tell me, Saintess,” he called out mockingly. “How does it feel to meet people from your homeland again? Wasn’t it nice to see familiar faces?”
His words hung in the air ominously. freёnovelkiss.com
Suddenly, the entire island began to glow. A massive mana circle, far more intricate than the one beneath Siwelin earlier, spread out from the castle at its center. Its radiant complexity dwarfed anything they had seen before.
Siwelin tensed, her every sense on high alert. She did not know what to expect.
Then, with a smirk, Ushas raised his hand, about to snap his fingers.
—Bababam—!
However, suddenly, the ground shook violently as an explosion erupted from the opposite side of the castle. Ushas turned sharply toward the commotion.
“What the?”
Emerging from the rubble was none other than his undead father and Kim Do-Joon, his face set in grim determination. Their aura was so fierce that even Ushas faltered for a moment.
“Father?” Ushas whispered, his expression darkening.

As Kim Do-Joon reached the surface, his view opened wide, the oppressive weight of the underground instantly lifted. For a fleeting moment, he felt the refreshing sense of freedom, but there was no time to savor it.
Boom!
Kim Do-Joon swung his spear through the air, sending the old man flying despite his busy-moving arms absorbing most of the impact.
The old man was slammed into the ground, but immediately bounced back on his feet, charging forward like a relentless storm.
For just a second, Kim Do-Joon’s gaze caught Ushas.
Ushas... Kim Do-Joon thought, a flicker of clarity piercing through the chaos.
It was enough to piece the situation together. Ushas had probably targeted Siwelin first. The signs of battle were visible, and Siwelin was already holding her sword.
Behind her, a cluster of what looked like American Hunters lingered in confusion. Kim Do-Joon did not waste a second worrying about them. They were as good as useless in such a fight.
Instead, something else demanded his attention.
What the hell is this?
A massive mana circle, etched into the very ground beneath him, sprawled across the entire island. Even a novice like Kim Do-Joon could sense the sinister, oppressive energy radiating from it.
However, there was no time to study it, because the old man lunged at him again.
Swoosh—!
Kim Do-Joon pivoted, dodging the blade aimed at his side. The earth beneath him surged upward, forcing him to leap. A sharp gust of wind grazed his shoulder as he barely evaded another attack.
The old man’s strikes came from all sides, relentless and precise. Kim Do-Joon clenched his jaw. He was the strongest opponent Kim Do-Joon had faced so far—even more powerful than Ushas, his creator.
In that sense, Ushas had achieved something all necromancers dreamed of: creating an undead stronger than themselves and commanding it like a puppet.
But something’s off... Kim Do-Joon thought, parrying a blow with his spear. The old man never used the fire element. Was it because Kim Do-Joon kept the Heart of Flame?
The next moment, the spear in Kim Do-Joon’s hand erupted into flames. When it clashed with the old man’s sword, the collision of raw energy created a thunderous explosion, the elements themselves seemingly at war.
However, even in the chaos, the mana circle below him grew more potent. Tendrils of black smoke coiled upward, their menacing presence gnawing at his focus.
Kim Do-Joon cursed under his breath. He could not afford to split his attention, but he had no choice. Fighting the old man alone was already exhausting, yet the spreading mana promised an even greater disaster.
A single, decisive throw could tip the scale, so his spear itched to target Ushas. However, the relentless old man denied him even a moment of respite.
Then, the mana circle completed itself.
From Ushas came a booming laugh, echoing across the island. The air darkened as the entire island was shrouded in black smoke. Not even Siwelin’s radiant light could pierce through the gloom.
Kim Do-Joon scowled, tensing as he braced against the suffocating darkness. The old man was still upon him, attacking with undeterred ferocity. His mind raced.
What now? What should I do first?
If he tried to escape the mana circle, the old man would strike him down. However, if he focused solely on his opponent, he’d be consumed by the malevolent energy creeping upward.
Kim Do-Joon was stuck between a rock and a hard place—and Ushas knew it. Of course, because he’d deliberately created this very deadlock.
Perfect. I’ve won!
Ushas’ eyes gleamed with triumph. Once again, he’d triumphed over Father!
Never again would Father’s soul slip through my fingers...
This time, Ushas was ready to drain every ounce of his Father's power so that he couldn’t resurrect.
Technically, he should share the spoils with Vango, his sibling—but the thought barely crossed his mind. Vango had failed.
How hard was it to retrieve one insignificant child? Perhaps the coward had run off entirely.
It doesn’t matter. This world is mine now. No, not just this world, but all the others my siblings hold as well. With Father’s power, I’ll rule them all!
Ushas thought smugly. His imagination soared, filled with visions of an unparalleled future. However, a blinding pillar of light descended from the heavens, enveloping Kim Do-Joon.
“What the!” Ushas’ glee twisted into shock, his jaw dropping.
Recognizing that energy, Ushas' expression contorted with rage, veins bulging as he roared, “Vango!”
His thunderous voice shook the island, the name reverberating with fury.
The light was unmistakably Vango’s power. That useless sibling had perished, and the abandoned power was returning to its rightful owner.
For Ushas, it was nothing short of a catastrophe.
