Life Simulation: My Talent Is Wool-Chapter 19: Escaping by the Skin of Their Teeth
"There’s something wrong..."
After walking through the forest for hours, Catharina stopped, gesturing with her hand.
Luan trusted her senses. Stopping, he became cautious.
Even straining himself, he didn’t notice anything different. Even though he didn’t notice, he knew that didn’t mean they were safe.
Catharina delicately arched an eyebrow: "How strange... I can’t find the—"
Her expression changed when a rustling sound echoed. From a tall clump of grass, a lioness leaped with a ferocious roar toward Luan.
"Luan, watch out!" She shouted, alarmed.
At that point, Luan also noticed. He turned around, shocked to see the beast almost reaching him.
At extreme speed, Catharina moved.
Her left hand moved faster than a whip. With the sound of flesh being pierced, her hand in the shape of a shovel went through the lioness’s neck, passing straight through, and pulled back.
The lioness fell into Luan’s arms. Moments later, a jet of blood sprayed from the lioness’s mouth.
It was a brutal strike, killing the lioness almost instantly.
"Damn it!" Luan cursed when he saw this.
Without hesitation, he grabbed Catharina’s right hand, shouting: "Run!"
Even without understanding, Catharina let him hold her hand, being pulled by him.
As soon as they fled, a lion appeared in front of the lioness.
The lion’s eyes filled with remorse, sadness and rage!
Soon after, a powerful roar echoed.
Catharina, who was running beside Luan, finally understood the reason for his haste.
When she looked back, she saw a lion 2m tall running after them. The lion’s eyes were red, full of cruelty.
*Pawoo!!*
Suddenly, a loud elephant sound echoed.
Luan’s eyes shone.
"Let’s go this way!" Luan pulled her toward the sound of the elephant.
"ROAR!"
A second roar echoed.
The lion was getting closer and closer.
"Catharina, kick that tree!" Luan pointed.
She obeyed: "Okay!"
With a "Crack" sound the tree broke with her kick.
Before she could slow down, Luan held her hand, pulling her along with him.
Meanwhile, the tree that had been broken by Catharina’s kick began to fall.
Calculating the path of the fall, Luan used it to his advantage, turning it into an obstacle—even if it didn’t buy much time, every second counted.
"Roar!"
With a roar, upon encountering the falling tree, the lion simply jumped, reaching the height of the tree in the air, and using it as a trampoline, leaped at great speed toward Luan and Catharina.
"Damn it!" Luan placed his hand on Catharina’s head: "Get down!"
By a hair, the lion passed grazing them as they lay on the ground.
The lion landed with all four paws on the ground, sliding, and turning toward them, skidding its feet on the ground like a bull.
*DUM!*
A loud sound echoed when the tree finally fell to the ground, raising a bit of dust.
The lion that had slid on the ground shot toward them at the sound of the tree falling.
"Run!"
Catharina stomped hard on the ground, pulling Luan’s hand.
The two almost tripped, running for their lives.
"ROARR!"
From another direction, coming from the river, a roar reached them.
To the complete surprise of Luan and Catharina, when that roar echoed, the lion changed its route and went toward the sound of the roar.
Still holding Catharina’s hand, Luan said urgently: "I don’t know what happened, but this is our chance!"
"Yes!"
"This way." Luan pulled her, changing the route, entering an area of sunflowers.
Opening a path through the sunflower plantation, they continued running without stopping.
...
Five hours later...
Having run without stopping, they finally relaxed, sitting on a grassy ground, panting nonstop.
"W-We’re safe...!" Luan let out a long sigh.
"Yes..."
Although they had gone in a different direction from the village they intended to reach, it was better than becoming a lion’s meal...
Now, even Catharina was dripping with sweat.
She was the one who exerted herself the most, many times opening the way for them, pulling Luan by the hand.
Without her, his chances of surviving were minimal.
Opening the zipper of one of the backpacks, Luan took out a bottle of water.
Wetting his wrist, he drank half a liter.
"Here." He handed the bottle to Catharina.
"Thank you." She accepted.
Imitating him, she wet her wrist and took a big gulp of water.
Taking a second bottle, Luan also pulled out a jar of dried meat.
"For now, we’ll make do with this." He placed the jar between them.
"It’s enough."
...
Later, after they had rested enough, Luan, who had a map of the forest in his hand, murmured: "We should be here. If we want to reach that village, we’ll need to cross this mountain, otherwise we’ll have to go back the way we came, but there’s the risk of running into that lion from before..."
"Let’s take the longer way." Catharina said: "Better to avoid the risk of meeting that lion."
She understood very well that after killing that lioness, there was a high chance the lion was looking for them. Although she didn’t know why it stopped following them at that moment.
"Alright, then it’s decided." Luan closed the map.
