Limitless Fortune: I Collect SSS-Rank Skills as Payment-Chapter 44: Boros Is Dead
Chapter 44: Boros Is Dead
Lucien then saw a massive maw gaped between the petals, extremely dark.
The ordinary bone and mana crystal on Boros’s hand before were now nowhere to be seen, probably chewed by that maw.
Now the petals looked blood red, no longer so white and pure as before. They looked like a demon hungry for blood instead.
"Do you know what I think about this dungeon?"
When Lucien was surprised, Lilith slowly mumbled from the side, appearing mysterious,
"I think... it is hungry for blood just like a demon."
She said, just low enough that only Lucien could hear.
’Obviously genius. I can see that.’
Lucien rolled his eyes at her feeling speechless. Wasn’t this normal thinking after seeing the scene in front?
What was she being so mysterious about?
The moment he arrived inside the awakening altar, he already felt the strangeness.
Now, with those petal actively sucking blood out of flagon, anyone could guess, couldn’t they?
"Yeah, Boros, good job."
But Lilith didn’t care about his expression. Instead, she ignored him and praised Boros slightly, causing him to puff up his chest.
"Don’t worry, your majesty. It is my duty."
"Yeah, don’t worry about that." Lilith waved her hand dismissively, clearly sick of such behavior.
Instead, she swiftly pointed at the circular nodes below the altar and said,
"Then, that position is for you. I asked this guy to take it, but he acted all cautious. His loss. You can take his spot to awaken your class."
Lilith puffed her cheeks in frustration, as if in a bad mood. After all, she was a princess who dared to disobey her like that?
"Hmm? Is that so?"
Boros raised an eyebrow, surprised, and glanced at Lucien like he was an idiot.
Then, as if feeling that, for once, Lilith actually favored him over Lucien, he straightened his back and assured her confidently,
"Don’t worry, Your Majesty. I’m not like someone who hesitates at every little thing..."
He smirked at Lucien, who remained silently composed, then strode toward the altar and stepped directly onto the circular nodes, that was still pulsing rhythmically with the lotus.
"Your Majesty, you take one side too. Let’s begin the class awakening."
He then turned toward Lilith and spoke.
After all, he was quite excited about this awakening, too. He had heard there were special benefits to using the Awakening Altar compared to awakening outside.
"Yeah, yeah... you’re right. It’s time to truly begin the class awakening."
However, to Boros’s confusion, the moment he stepped inside the circular nodes, Princess Lilith’s smiling face shifted entirely, like night and day.
What was once an amiable, pouting expression turned ice-cold. The air around the Awakening Altar seemed to stir, thick with murderous intent.
"Your Majesty...?"
Not only Boros, but even Lucien was caught off guard. He instinctively stepped back, ready to trigger the mark embedded in Lilith’s mind if necessary.
Only this time, he wasn’t her target at all.
"Boros,"
"Don’t you think of me as your princess?"
Lilith asked with a sickening smile, just like before when she was with Lucien.
"Hmm? Y-yes?"
Boros was already feeling that something wasn’t right with the situation.
Why was always smiling third princess suddenly turned so murderous? He hadn’t seen her like this before at all.
However, just when he felt cautious and was about to lift his legs out of the circular nodes, Lilith’s voice echoed in his ears.
"Then, as a subordinate of this princess, it is only right for you to sacrifice yourself to help me awaken my class, don’t you think so?"
The more she spoke, the colder the chamber grew as the only sound coming was from the lotus petals that finished sucking up the blood poured onto them.
Lilith’s entire demeanor had changed from that of an amiable young girl to something more akin to a demoness.
"W-What do you mean?"
Boros mumbled, completely confused by such illogical words.
After all, the Awakening Altar was already active the moment the lotus accepted his offer.
All they had to do now was wait, wait for the spirit of the dungeon to help awaken their classes.
But sacrificing himself to awaken her?
What kind of sick joke was this?
"Your Majesty, why are you joking at a time like thi—?"
Swoosh!
"What—?"
Boros was about to voice his frustration when, suddenly, he felt something was wrong.
Something was terribly wrong as he found out that he suddenly couldn’t move.
Not just move, he couldn’t even turn his head or channel his mana.
It happened so fast. All he registered was a sudden presence behind him... and then something cold and sharp piercing straight through his back.
The weird thing was, during the entire process, he didn’t feel any pain at all.
Instead, his vision began to blur.
The world spun around him, darkness creeping in from the edges. He tried to stay conscious, but everything felt distant... faded.
"Your Majesty...?"
Struggling fiercely, he barely managed to glance at Lilith, his eyes filled with confusion, before collapsing to the ground, unconscious.
"What was that?"
While Boros didn’t know what happened to him, Lucien saw everything.
The moment Lilith said "sacrifice," the node where Boros stood suddenly surged with blue energy, wrapping tightly around him.
Then, the previously silent, blood-red lotus, still drinking the blood from the Falgon, suddenly sprang to life.
Its petals twisted into razor-sharp spears, and in an instant, it shot out from the altar, piercing Boros straight through the back.
Lucien’s eyes widened in shock as the lotus... it didn’t just stab him.
It even began to drain him rapidly. Just like slurping the last bit of juice through a straw.
In just a blink, it sucked everything out of Boros, blood, flesh, even life, until only a withered, skeletal husk remained.
Such a bizarre, gruesome death... and yet, Boros didn’t even seem to realize what had happened.
Heck, he didn’t even feel the pain.
"Like I said, it is a sacrifice. Otherwise?"
Lilith’s voice echoed calmly.
"Do you think the spirit of the dungeon will help us awaken our class to its full potential with just that?"
Despite the horror of the scene, Lilith didn’t even blink.
Not just her, even her entourage remained unmoved, as if they were used to seeing such things.
"Tch... I wasn’t about to do this," she then pouted cutely,
"but this guy really pissed me off. I don’t like my subordinates not listening to me." freeweɓnovel~cѳm
As if merely annoyed, she treated Boros’s death as a light punishment for disobedience.
Well, at least that’s probably how she saw it.
’Damn... isn’t that the place she suggested I take before?’
While Lilith was mumbling, Lucien’s thoughts raced rapidly as he suddenly felt quite lucky.
’This bitch was really planning on killing me.’
Lucien shuddered as he felt genuinely creeped out by the entire scene.
After draining everything from Boros, the lotus even took his bones before calmly returning to its spot on the altar.
Then, it slowly turned back to its previous fair-white form, untainted, as if nothing had ever happened.
If he had agreed with her and stood there instead, wouldn’t he be the one lying like that now?
"Hehe... are you afraid?"
Lucien’s reaction wasn’t out of Lilith’s vision as she suddenly laughed, seeing him on guard.
"Don’t worry. When you decide to touch the Seed of Sin, such things are bound to happen to you. I advise you to get used to it quickly."
Lilith genuinely suggested it, as if imparting precious knowledge to him.
"Why did you do that?"
However, Lucien wasn’t in the mood. Although he did kill a guy today, that was out of desperation.
He wasn’t a lunatic to feel nothing after watching someone die such a gruesome death right in front of him.
This incident today made him even more cautious of Lilith. This girl was too dangerous.
’But... why do I feel like she did that just to show me?’
