Limitless Summoner: Rise of the Soul God-Chapter 148: A problematic dungeon
The next dungeon was… strange. Ethan had expected something familiar—a dense forest, a barren desert, or even an underground labyrinth. Instead, the moment they stepped through the portal, they found themselves standing on a platform of clouds, floating in what seemed to be an endless sky.
Ethan's stomach dropped. His immediate instinct was to test his footing, half-expecting the fluffy white clouds beneath them to be illusionary. But when he stomped his foot, the surface was solid—strangely soft but firm enough to stand on.
"Master… where are we?" Lia asked, her voice carrying an uneasy edge.
Ethan scanned the endless horizon of blue sky stretching all around them. There were no landmarks, no ground below them—just sky, sky, and more sky. His anxiety skyrocketed at the realization.
"This… could have been really bad," he muttered under his breath, rubbing his temple.
If this dungeon had dropped them into the sky without this floating platform, they would have plummeted straight to their deaths.
His minor teleportation skill wasn't strong enough to correct something like that. If this platform wasn't real, they wouldn't have even been able to reach the dungeon portal.
"Yeah," he chuckled weakly, "that would've been game over."
He made a mental note—always research a dungeon before entering.
Then a thought struck him, and he turned to Luna. "Hey, Luna, any chance you know how to fly?"
The little girl tilted her head, blinking at him. "Ah?"
She looked genuinely confused—as if she'd never even considered it before. Then, without warning, she took off running toward the edge of the platform.
And jumped.
"LUNA, NO!" Ethan's heart leapt into his throat. His body moved before his brain could process what was happening. He lunged forward, arms outstretched, absolute horror filling his chest.
Then—Luna floated back up.
Like a feather caught in a soft breeze, she drifted effortlessly, hovering just above the edge with graceful ease.
"I CAN FLY! I CAN FLY! YAY! YAY!" Luna twirled midair, pure excitement lighting up her face. She spun, flipping effortlessly, then zipped through the air like a playful bird.
Ethan sagged with relief, clutching his chest as the tension drained from his body. His knees felt weak. "Holy shit," he breathed. "I just lost ten years of my life."
Luna, of course, didn't care. She kept zooming around, giggling in delight.
Ethan took a deep, calming breath before waving her down. When she finally floated close, he grabbed her by the cheeks and stretched them.
"You are not afraid of anything, are you?!"
"Ow! Ow! Ow!" Luna whined, but Ethan didn't let go.
"This is for making me worry!" He stretched her cheeks further, watching them puff out like mochi. "Next time, don't run off and do something without telling me, got it?"
"Ow! Ow! Ow! Yes! Yeshhhh!" Luna squealed, flailing.
Ethan only let go after he was satisfied.
But Luna was definitely holding a grudge. She stomped away, pouting, rubbing her red cheeks.
Lia, meanwhile, was barely holding back laughter. "Master, you're merciless."
Ethan smirked. "Yeah, well, you better not make me punish you too."
That was supposed to be a joke. But Lia's face turned beet red.
Ethan's brain short-circuited.
Oh.
Oh, shit.
He awkwardly cleared his throat, scratching the back of his head. Abort. Abort. Move on.
"A-Anyway," he quickly changed the topic, "what is with this dungeon? Nothing's showing up."
Luna suddenly gasped. Her pout vanished, her big eyes widening into circles.
"Big brother, look up!" Her voice rang with awe and alarm as she pointed skyward, her mouth forming a perfect O.
Ethan followed her gaze, and the moment he did, a cold weight settled in his stomach.
Above them, the sky—once an endless expanse of serene blue—was now moving. A massive flock of birds had emerged from the distant clouds, their dark silhouettes blotting out portions of the sunlight. The creatures were still far, appearing as tiny specks in the distance, but the way they moved, the sheer number of them, sent an unmistakable message.
They were all coming straight for them.
"Master…" Lia's voice carried an uneasy edge. "Birds. Lots and lots of them are coming for us."
Ethan swore under his breath. "So that's the gimmick of this dungeon."
His mind raced as he assessed the situation. The sheer scale of the incoming swarm was unnerving. There weren't just dozens—there were hundreds if not thousands. The sky itself was shifting as the birds flapped their wings, growing larger with each passing second.

His army was huge, with over 250 minions, but against an onslaught from above, sheer numbers wouldn't matter if they got swarmed from every direction. They were exposed, standing on a floating platform of clouds, with no cover, no obstacles, no escape.
Yup, this was definitely a death trap.
A different kind of death trap than plummeting to their death, but a death trap nonetheless.
If the entire flock descended at once, they would be completely overwhelmed. No amount of defensive positioning would help when hundreds of sharp beaks and talons tore into them from every possible angle.
Ethan's teeth clenched. He swore under his breath. Not researching the dungeon beforehand had been a mistake.
He considered retreating. They could step out of the dungeon now and try a different one. But then, a strategy formed in his mind.
"Luna," he said, eyes still locked on the incoming swarm. "How far can you aim?"
Luna was still staring, frozen in shock at the sheer number of birds above. When she heard him, she blinked, then quickly snapped her head toward him. "Aim?"
"Yeah," Ethan nodded. "Try shooting a fireball up there."
Luna's eyes widened—then sparkled with excitement.
"Ohhhhh! That sounds fun!" She clapped her hands together, summoning a bright ball of flame between her palms. "How big should I make it? A little one? Or a really, REALLY big one?!"
Ethan chuckled dryly. "Start small."
Even though Luna's magic was absurdly powerful, he needed precision first. They weren't trying to blast the entire sky just yet.
As Luna prepared her shot, Ethan moved quickly, already beginning his summoning sequence.
First, he called upon his Zither Wings, the only flying minions in his current roster.
The creatures materialized in a blur, their sleek, insectoid wings buzzing rapidly as they hovered midair. They were fast, and nimble enough to maneuver against aerial threats, but sending them straight up into the incoming horde would be suicide.
If he ordered them to engage immediately, the birds would simply tear them apart.
Instead, he needed a different approach.
A controlled fight. A war of attrition.
Ethan's mind raced. "If we attack them all at once, they'll charge in together. That's suicide." He shook his head, already adjusting his plan. "We need to thin the flock before they reach us. That's the only way to clear this dungeon."
His eyes sharpened. "Luna, take the first shot."
The little girl grinned, and with a joyful laugh, she flung her fireball straight into the sky. The bright orb of flame soared upward, cutting through the air like a comet.
The moment it struck its target, a mid-sized bird erupted into flames, screeching as it spiraled downward.
"Yay! Big brother! I did it!" Luna jumped up and down in excitement, already preparing to shoot down the next one.
