Lingering Passion: Mr. Sutton Wants to be Your Male Lead!-Chapter 217: Official Recognition: Serena Sutton
Back in her room, Stella Grant first flopped onto the bed to replay the scene that had just unfolded in the living room, then rolled over and stared at the ceiling with a long sigh.
"Men are trouble."
The thrill was momentary, but the regret cut deep once she calmed down.
The worst part was that she had boldly declared herself Silas Sutton’s fiancée.
Truly, the bolder you are, the more embarrassing it gets.
In contrast to Stella’s ’regretting my actions’, Silas Sutton was gleefully holding a cigarette between his lips, standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, talking on the phone with Ben Lawson.
After Silas Sutton described the situation at Bloomwood Gardens, Ben Lawson, though surprised, teased, "You must be over the moon right now, huh?"
Silas Sutton bit down on his cigarette, "Not bad."
Ben Lawson, "Just not bad? Judging by your tone, if not for Earth’s gravity, you’d probably be settling on another planet right now."
Silas Sutton took the cigarette out and chuckled, "I just didn’t expect her to stand up... and defend me."
Silas particularly emphasized the words ’defend me’, and though Ben wanted to curse, he thought of the rough years Silas had spent with The Sutton Family, and refrained, instead smiling as he said, "Your great-aunt must have turned green with anger today, huh?"
Silas Sutton scoffed, "More than that."
Ben Lawson, "All these years she’s slandered you recklessly, never missing a chance to blame anything on you, regardless if you did it or not."
Silas Sutton sneered, "I wonder how much longer she can keep this up."
Ben Lawson caught the subtext, "Are you ready?"
Silas Sutton said solemnly, "By the day after tomorrow, I will pay back to the old man every day of those six years he raised me."
Ben Lawson clicked his tongue at this, "I’m genuinely curious, what’s the point for you? You’ve endured so much all these years just to pay him back for those six years, and even then those years weren’t good ones for you..."
Silas Sutton, "My principle in life is, I don’t like to owe people anything."
Ben Lawson teased, "Then why do you owe me so many favors?"
Silas Sutton half-smiled, "I don’t like to owe ’people’ anything."
Ben Lawson, "..."
Ben Lawson, silently cursing, was crafting a comeback when Silas Sutton seriously asked, "What did Second Master Winslow do to Miles Sutton?"
Ben Lawson’s train of thought was interrupted; recognizing the significance, he replied earnestly, "Nothing much, just gave him a few extreme drifts on the highway back to Veridia."
Silas Sutton asked coolly, "No accidents?"
Ben Lawson replied, "Didn’t you say not to go too far? Plus, given his frail condition, scaring him a little is all he can handle. If we really pushed him and he died in our hands, it’d be a loss outweighed by gain."
Silas Sutton’s cigarette hadn’t been smoked, but the ash was halfway burned as he stepped to the coffee table to flick it, "The old man just came to me, said the third son lost a leg."
Silas Sutton’s words made Ben Lawson pause, then he swore, "What the hell?!" 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Silas Sutton, "Apparently, he’s in the hospital’s emergency room right now."
Ben Lawson said, "I can guarantee Second Master Winslow would never do something so reckless."
Silas Sutton scoffed lightly, "Of course I know that."
Ben Lawson cursed a few more times over the phone, then returned to the main topic, "Miles Sutton has been getting more and more out of control these years, I even wonder if the real insane ones back then weren’t Theodore Sutton and you, but him."
The past was something Silas Sutton preferred not to mention; he sneered, "He’s definitely going all out now."
Miles Sutton genuinely was frail, that wasn’t an act, and Ben Lawson marveled at how fearlessly he pushed his limits as he asked Silas Sutton, "Do you think his broken leg is real or fake?"
Silas Sutton smirked, "Of course it’s real, otherwise how could he fool the old man."
Ben Lawson, "Isn’t he afraid of playing himself to death?"
Silas Sutton said in a low voice, "He’ll die if he doesn’t play, at least playing gives Theodore a path."
Ben Lawson, "Even palace dramas aren’t as complex as your family."
Silas Sutton joked, "In The Sutton Family you wouldn’t survive past the third episode."
Ben Lawson chuckled, "You overestimate me, with my brain, I’d be dead in the first episode."
They chatted a bit more before Silas Sutton reminded Ben Lawson to keep an eye on Miles Sutton.
Ben Lawson joked, "I’m watching him closer than any of my past girlfriends, it’s a good thing I don’t have a girlfriend now, otherwise she’d be jealous of the attention I’m giving to another guy."
Silas Sutton remembered something and asked, "You’ve been getting close to Sue Woods lately?"
Ben Lawson laughed, "Quite close indeed, she can argue with me in words and wrestle with me physically. Honestly, I’ve never met someone who could demand a debt repayment so assertively. If it weren’t for Stella Grant’s sake, I’d have sent her to the police station long ago."
Silas Sutton, "I need you to do me a favor."
Ben Lawson sensed a trap, "What favor?"
Silas Sutton chuckled softly, "Use emotion and reason to subtly tell her how tragic my life has been, how hard-working and ambitious I am, and try to have her put in a good word for me in front of Stella Grant."
