Chapter 34 - 34: A Flawless Plan

Clearly, Harrison understood Kaitō Kid better now, and he was much calmer.

The Japanese agents heard Harrison's command and obediently froze where they stood. The chaos quickly settled.

"Tyce, get our tactical goggles on!"

With smoke this thick, even tactical goggles might not help much.

Normally, tactical goggles worked well against standard smoke bombs, reducing the impact of the smoke.

But this thick, choking smoke, in a sealed space—there was no way they'd work well here.

Tyce opened a black case, pulled out the goggles, put them on, and switched to thermal imaging. Instantly, he spotted the smoke bomb on the floor.

"Sir, I've got eyes on the smoke bomb!"

"I'll try to throw it out!"

Then, Tyce took off his jacket, wrapped up the smoke bomb. These things got really hot while releasing smoke.

He felt his way along the corridor, trying to get outside, but the smoke was just too thick. He couldn't see a thing, had no idea where he was.

[Oh my god! Kaitō Kid's smoke bomb is insane!]

[So damn annoying—he pulled it off again!]

[Sneaky Kaitō Kid—when did he even sneak in?]

[Nothing can stop Kaitō Kid, haven't you figured that out? He's like a ghost, always striking out of nowhere!]

Meanwhile—

Back when Zhang Yang was on the third-floor railing, he had already figured out the general layout of the fourth floor.

As for the Dragon Head's exact location, Zhang Yang had a rough idea.

He didn't know which room it was in, but the Japanese agents were bound to give him clues.

In the smoke, Zhang Yang had already used Advanced Disguise Technique to become the spitting image of Kameda, walking out of the fog like he owned the place.

The smoke hadn't spread to the Dragon Head's area yet. In front of one room, Zhang Yang saw four or five agents gathered.

The door looked special too—card access required.

"Sir!"

As Zhang Yang walked up, those agents greeted him like fools.

"Stay sharp. Kaitō Kid has made his move!"

"Yes, sir!"

Zhang Yang gave them a serious look, then pulled out the access card he'd swiped from Kameda.

"Beep—"

A soft sound, and Zhang Yang pushed the door open.

Inside was a surveillance monitor aimed at the door, and a safe in the center of the room.

This was no problem for Zhang Yang.

As for the monitor, Zhang Yang flicked a playing card, slicing through the transmission cable.

He crouched by the safe. With his Master Lockpicking skill, it only took him thirty seconds to crack it open.

"Knew it!"

Zhang Yang grinned. The black square case Kameda carried when he boarded the cruise was right there in the safe.

The case had a cross-shaped keyhole. Zhang Yang slid in the key.

"Click—"

The black case popped open.

And right there was the Dragon Head of the Twelve Bronze Zodiac!

"Missing for a hundred years, and still as beautiful as ever."

Zhang Yang gently lifted the Dragon Head, placing it into his Magical Wardrobe.

Then he locked the case and the safe back up, calmly walking out of the room.

The Japanese agents outside didn't suspect a thing, watching their "Commander Kameda" leave.

"Sir! I've handled the smoke bomb!"

Tyce had finally found a window and tossed the bomb out.

With the cruise's ventilation system working, and no more smoke being pumped out, within ten minutes most of the smoke had cleared. Visibility was coming back.

Kameda and Harrison exchanged a glance. They both knew—Kaitō Kid had already made his move.

And that smoke bomb? Just a distraction to stall them.

Kameda picked up the walkie-talkie from the floor and shouted anxiously, "Attention all units! Kaitō Kid has taken action!"

"From now on, no one is allowed near the secured zone!"

But it was too late. Zhang Yang had already taken the Dragon Head.

Harrison's face was grim. "Where's the item you're protecting?"

"Kaitō Kid's plan is airtight. The smoke's cleared, and he's already made his move!"

Even though Harrison had only faced Zhang Yang once, he fully respected Zhang Yang's skill.

Since they'd already dealt with the smoke, chances were, Zhang Yang had already completed his next step.

"Well..." fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

Kameda hesitated. He wasn't sure if he should let Harrison see it. After all, their orders were just to cooperate with MI5 in catching Kaitō Kid.

The mission to escort the Dragon Head was still top secret.

[What the heck? Why's he hesitating? Is he stalling for Kaitō Kid?]

[He doesn't trust Harrison at all. Unbelievable!]

[What exactly are they escorting? Something shady? A new bio-weapon maybe?]

[Hahaha, if it really is a bio-weapon, Kaitō Kid's the hero saving the world!]

[Japan always sneaking around, never doing anything openly!]

Whether Japan's precious cargo got stolen or not, Harrison didn't care one bit.

All he wanted was to catch Kaitō Kid—failure was not an option.

Harrison lunged forward, grabbing Kameda by the collar.

"Take me there! If we wait any longer, Kaitō Kid will vanish!"

"I don't care what you're escorting—I'm not curious—but if you stall and let him get away, I won't let this go!"

"Baka! Let me go!"

Kameda shoved Harrison away in anger.

Harrison had his orders from Britain's top brass to catch Kaitō Kid.

But Kameda had his own mission—to secretly escort the Dragon Head back to Japan!

After a moment of struggle, Kameda decided to trust Harrison.

Right now, there was no one else who could help him deal with Kaitō Kid.

"This is a classified escort mission. You're not allowed inside the room."

"And you can't look at what we're transporting!"

Harrison scowled but nodded.

Seeing him agree, Kameda finally led them to the room where the Dragon Head had been kept.

The agents standing guard straightened up when they arrived.

"Kameda-sama!"

Kameda nodded.

"In the past ten minutes, has anyone suspicious come close?"

"No!"

The agents all shook their heads.

Harrison frowned deeply, not getting it.

Based on everything he knew about Kaitō Kid, the guy never acted without a plan.

First step—throw smoke bombs to stall them.

Second step—steal the item. But now? Nothing?

"You're sure? Kaitō Kid didn't show up?"

"No one came here?"

The agents looked at each other, confused about who Harrison even was.

One of them casually answered, "Didn't Kameda-sama come by just now?"

"He told us Kaitō Kid had started his move and told us to stay alert!"

Kameda's face twisted.

"Baka yarou! When did I come here?"

The agent looked stunned.

"Just... just a few minutes ago... about five minutes..."

Harrison let out a cold snort. Now that was the right answer.
