Lord of Ascension: The Birth of Chaos-Chapter 44 The Secret Domain
Chapter 44: Chapter 44 The Secret Domain
The lady dropped the glass magnifier on the table beside the spellbook. Then she looked away from the book, moving her gaze to the figure of a man clothed in black.
"Oh I see..." she drawled.
"Congratulations my lady, this is good news. It won’t take long before he becomes the heir to the throne." the man said with a slight bow.
"I wonder if it is truly a congratulation. He had been training with Sir Gabriel for six years now, and he hadn’t uttered a word of it to me. He is too smart and mature for his age." Agnes’ brows furrowed slightly.
The man kept his head low. "Maybe he wants to surprise you. But I must say, your son is a real prodigy... he has attained the Ascendent stage."
’That isn’t surprising... but I have sealed his powers, how did he manage to access his powers? He isn’t a demon child for nothing.’
"Yes that I must agree to however continue to keep an eye on him. You may leave now." her posture straightened.
The man bowed, and like a gust of wind, he blurred out of the room.
The curtains swayed gently, and even the candle flickered from the force of the wind.
Agnes stared back at the book she had been reading. "It is time to start the plan." a smile formed on her lips, but it didn’t reach her eyes.
.......
Kaelith stepped out of the portal and into his room. The familiar scent of scrolls and potions filled the air, but he didn’t pay much attention to it. His body still ached, but Gabriel had healed most of the wounds. Faint scars ran across his skin, a silent proof of what he had just been through.
He walked to the center of the room, his eyes glancing at the moon outside the window.
"Just a little more and I’ll break out of this shackle. Bear witness to what is about to come... universe." a lopsided smile formed on his lips.
His voice was more like a whisper, but filled with confidence. His face looked calm, almost bored, but something darker flickered through his eyes... almost like it was waiting patiently for the right time to strike.
He took off his clothes and stepped into the small bathing room. Warm water splashed against his skin, washing off the dried blood and sweat. Steam filled the space. He closed his eyes as the heat eased the pain in his muscles, but the fire inside him remained. He could feel his veins had gotten stronger compared to before.
His thoughts wandered back to the conversation he had with Gabriel.
"You are being watched... I think it is time for us to change our training location. What do you think about training in my mansion?"
"If you don’t mind... then it is a good idea." He replied.
’Who could be that? They must have seen me break through into the Ascendant stage. I need to find that spy... and find out who is behind him.’
Afterward, he dried himself and put on a loose tunic. He walked to the bed and laid down, resting one arm under his head. He stared at the ceiling. He didn’t plan to sleep, but as soon as his eyes closed, the world around him disappeared.
When he opened them again... but he wasn’t in his room.
He was standing barefoot in a strange, cloudy space. The ground was black, with faint mist oozing from it. The air was cold, but it didn’t affect him. Above him, thick clouds moved slowly.
The dark clouds raged above like they were alive, constantly shifting and crashing into each other. Lightning cracked through the sky, splitting open the clouds again and again. Each thunderclap felt like a roar.
Kaelith narrowed his eyes.
He knew this place. ’Looks like I have found my way back to this place.’
It was the same place Agnes had made when she sealed his powers. A space formed from his real domain.
"Let’s see if it has any use for me."
He looked around, walking forward. The mist curled around his feet like smoke. The space stretched in all directions, without any end in sight.
The farther he walked, the more he felt it. A strange pulse in the air. A rhythm that didn’t match anything outside this place. It was wild and chaotic, like ripples in water after a stone was thrown in. He tried walking toward the feeling, but no matter how far he moved, it stayed the same distance away. The space around him shifted, like a broken reflection.
He stopped. "So this is distortion..."
He looked back up at the sky, the clouds continued moving arbitrarily. He shut his eyes, trying to sense what he could learn from this place. What could he use? How could he grow stronger here, where nothing made sense? And most importantly, how could he reach his real domain? How could he get the shard of the artifact of chaos back?
Before he could think more, a loud knocking sound echoed inside his head.
Kaelith groaned, grabbing his temple. The sound wasn’t coming from this place. It was coming from the real world.
He snapped his eyes open, and he was back in his room. The knock came again. He squinted his eyes from the rays of light scattered across his body.
The knocking came again. "Your Highness... you are late. The arena trial is about to begin!" The servants said, alarmed.
Kaelith held his head, irritation flickered through his eyes. He stepped down from his bed, marched towards the door, he flung it open. The servant’s fist hovered just a few inches from the door.
"Your Highness." she quickly bowed her head.
"Stop banging on my door, except you want to lose those hands of yours." His voice was low and menacing, sending shivers down the servant’s spine.
"I apologize..." Before the servant could finish her words, the door shut closed in her face. She wanted to knock again, but she brought her hand back to her chest. She wasn’t ready to lose her hand.
Kaelith groaned as he walked back towards his changing room. He was annoyed that couldn’t get anything tangible from his domain. And he doesn’t know how to access it yet. "Don’t fret about it... you can figure it out after you come back," he muttered under his breath.
It didn’t take long for him to change into his royal wear. He opened the door again, and his eyes met with that of the servant who was now pacing about in front of his door. Cold beads of sweat trickled down the side of her temples.
A look of relief flickered through her eyes. "This way, your highness." She stepped out of the way, directing her hand to the left wing of the palace. Kaelith held his hand behind him, before walking through the hallway. The servant walked a few steps behind him, with her head bowed. freeweɓnøvel~com
It didn’t take long for them to appear in the arena. The place was already crowded with the citizens of Eldenria. They shout and cheer fills the air. When Kaelith looked down into the arena, a man and a woman were tied to their knees.
"KILL. KILL. KILL!" the crowd chanted.
