“May God bless you, are you Old Morgan’s family? I’ve finally found you. The guy from Newspaper Street didn’t deceive me; it seems his newspaper really does have quite the reputation.”
The delighted voice of Tang Qi came through on the other end of the phone.
Abu and the others exchanged helpless glances with each other. As expected, the other party was just an ignorant youngster. Placing a missing person notice was a good idea, but if they really wanted it to be effective, they should have placed it in a widely circulated and cheap newspaper like the “Messer Morning Paper.”
This young man had chosen the “Holy Thorns Morning Paper,” which was an unusually expensive publication targeted at nobles and the wealthy elite.
The poor couldn’t even spare a glance at this kind of newspaper, because it was delivered personally and seldom appeared at newsstands. Had it not been for a rich person moving out in the Newton District and clearing out a pile of old newspapers, which some beggars jostled over and inadvertently let the Harria Sisters discover this information, both parties would definitely have missed each other.
...
While Abu and his companions were somewhat speechless, Tang Qi’s voice continued to come through.
“Poor Old Morgan died from a sudden illness, and since it happened so fast, he only managed to impart a few last words. He wanted me to give one of the artifacts among his belongings to his nephew Abu. He said it was extremely important; it looked like some curio brought from the Saha Continent, seemingly abnormal.”
“Whew~”
Almost immediately, the entire family thought of something, and they all simultaneously raised their heads, with expressions of surprise and realization flashing in their eyes.
Old Morgan was not dead!
This was known to the whole family; in their tribe, the dissolution of the body wasn’t true death—it was the dispersal of the soul that counted. This was also why their tribe had such a fearsome reputation in that region of the Saha Continent; because if one were to wage war against them and fell in defeat, not only would they be killed, but their souls would also be unable to move on.
According to Abu’s investigation, Old Morgan was still alive.
Combining this with what Tang Qi was saying now, the conclusion was on the verge of being drawn.
Perhaps Old Morgan had suffered some accident while practicing witchcraft, which caused his body to collapse. In the last moments, he attached his soul to a magical witchcraft artifact and then entrusted the ignorant youngster to ensure the artifact reached Abu.
In this way, the family could be reunited once more.
And at the same time, they would receive a large sum of property.
On the other end of the phone, the “ignorant” young man’s voice, filled with kindness and a consoling tone, resounded.
“I originally wanted to come find you myself, but now I’m a boarding student and can’t leave the school until the rest day comes. So, I will have my servant Cardo tidy up Old Morgan’s belongings and probably send them over to you around evening, and there’s also a little expression of our Tang Family’s sincerity in there, after all, Old Morgan served our family for a long time.”
“By the way, do you know Cardo? Old Morgan might have mentioned him to you; I hope he won’t frighten you.”
“We know him!”
Georgina responded quickly.
They indeed knew Cardo; Old Morgan had mentioned some things during family gatherings. After all, among the few servants in the Tang Family, Cardo was the most conspicuous. Because he was very ugly, it seemed that some accident in his childhood caused his face to be disfigured, so he wrapped his face daily in white bandages, leaving only a pair of eyes visible.
Upon hearing Tang Qi’s words, including the Harria Sisters, the whole family revealed a hint of scorn.
They only appeared to be an ordinary black family on the surface, but inside, each of them had received the education from Samra—bloodthirsty and cruel. If they lived according to the ways of the Saha Continent, their surroundings would have long been in chaos, with countless deaths and injuries.
Of course, they would also be quickly killed by official forces.
“Very well, let’s leave it at that. I will visit you after the rest day.”
“Click”
After uttering the last sentence, Tang Qi hung up the phone.
Slowly standing up and looking out at the sky, it was the early morning now, and the whole city of Messer was awakening.
Usually, Tang Qi would be preparing breakfast, then going to school, or performing his duties as a Police Station Consultant.
But today, everything was different.
“Let’s begin!”
Tang Qi silently thought to himself before heading straight to the second floor.
A whole day’s time was enough for him to adjust his state and prepare some things.
…
Evening, Bronk District, Black Orange Street.
The clip-clop of hooves sounded as a carriage appeared at the corner of the street. As darkness began to fall, the coachman spoke nervously: “Sir, we’ve arrived.”
His anxiety was half due to being in the Bronk District, and half because of his passenger on this trip – a very unusual client.
“Next time, I won’t be greedy for money anymore.”
Feeling the fear he could not suppress, the coachman warned himself; he could earn double the fare for this trip, which was why he braved entering the Bronk at nightfall.
As he was lost in thought, a tall figure stepped down from the carriage.
The figure walked over and handed over several silver coins.
The coachman hurriedly accepted them and inadvertently saw the face under the passenger’s hat again, wrapped in bandages. His heart skipped a beat, nearly dropping the silver coins. After collecting the fare, the coachman quickly bid farewell to the passenger and spurred the horses to leave.
Tang Qi was very satisfied with the coachman’s reaction.
His current disguise was indeed an imitation of a previous servant named Cardo.
His appearance, height, and demeanor were all completely different from before; even if familiar faces like Sally or Stanna were here, they would find it hard to recognize him.
Listening to the fading clip-clop, Tang Qi silently turned around and entered a grimy street ahead.
Soon, he stood between two small buildings in a narrow gap, facing a haphazardly constructed wooden house, with the address – Black Orange Street No. 440.
“Thud~”
Tang Qi lifted his hand and knocked once, then the wooden door creaked open of its own accord, sending a chill that cut to the bone blowing through.
The wind knocked off Tang Qi’s hat, revealing his face full of bandages. Had he not involuntarily shivered, a gesture of fear, his image would seem even more intimidating at that moment.
“Is anybody there?”
“I am Cardo, I’m looking for Abu.”
With some trepidation and hesitation, Tang Qi walked into the gloomy wooden house, a place of utter disarray reeking of foul odors.
Inside, bizarre objects were everywhere: sticky pillars, pitch-dark tables, uneven and blotchy floors, and in the corner, what appeared to be crafts, but each emitted a sinister vibe.
Perhaps most disgusting of all were the bowls and plates on the table, with remnants of red and black paste-like food, occasionally showing tiny bones and some twisted hairs.
Turning a corner, Tang Qi saw at the end of the wooden house, beds and several chairs occupied by people.
Led by a skinny black man in the center, a family.
No sooner had Tang Qi steadied himself without speaking, the Harria Sisters, the twins he had only seen in photos, one on each side, charged at him like two plump wild boars.
