Lord: Stripped of My Inheritance from the Start-Chapter 206 - 205: The Great Physician of Wubei Territory
A Light Attribute Mage may have limited combat power, but they are incredibly valuable to a territory.
Take Elron, for instance. He could bring Ronin wealth, convey the Lord’s benevolence to the populace and stabilize morale, and play a significant role in both medical care and combat support.
Beyond all that, Ronin was also counting on him to one day cure Lurans’s illness and free him from the corruption of the Soul-Devouring Surge.
If Ridder and Macken represented hard power, then Elron was the embodiment of soft power.
Therefore, spending Energy Essence on Elron was by no means a waste.
As 367 points of Energy Essence were consumed, Elron’s Level shot up from Senior Mage to Fourth-level Great Mage (0/1200). Ronin now had 1,343 points of Energy Essence remaining.
Since he had decided to raise Elron’s Level, he didn’t hesitate, investing another 1,200 points to raise him directly to a Fifth-level Chief Mage.
The surge in his Spiritual Power caused the Light Elements in the space around him to churn, making Elron himself resemble a divine statue radiating golden light, looking utterly solemn and majestic.
Ronin didn’t disturb Elron, who had his eyes closed as he acclimated to the changes. Instead, he checked his subordinate’s new level progress.
[Elron Faao]: Chief Mage of Light (0/2000) +
Breaking through from Chief Mage to Sixth-level Mage required 2,000 points of Energy Essence. The cost was staggering!
If he relied purely on his monthly check-ins to accumulate Energy Essence, it would take a year and a half just to help Elron level up again.
’And what about after that? Going from Mage to Great Mage, and then to an Eighth-level Mage... the amount of Energy Essence required will surely be astronomical.’
Ronin couldn’t help but frown.
Miroslav had said that only an Eighth-level Mage could possibly master a Light Attribute Magic powerful enough to cleanse the Soul-Devouring Surge.
According to Lurans himself, under normal circumstances, he still had seven or eight years to live.
’If I only rely on the monthly check-ins for Energy Essence, can I raise Elron to an Eighth-level Mage within seven or eight years?’
Ronin didn’t know, because he couldn’t be sure of the amount of Energy Essence the higher levels would require.
’Looks like I’ll need to be more careful with how I use my Energy Essence from now on.’
’Raising Elron’s level is definitely the highest priority. Lurans’s life depends on it, and I don’t want to see the old man die from the Soul-Devouring Surge’s corruption.’
’However, Wubei Territory also needs a commander who can hold his own, so strengthening Ridder is also essential.’
’Between Macken, Elron, and Ridder, perhaps I can first raise Ridder to the Golden Level, and then focus primarily on Elron.’
’As for Macken, with the increase in my own strength, my need for a personal guard is diminishing. His advancement can wait.’
As he was lost in thought, Elron slowly opened his eyes, his azure pupils gleaming with a brilliant light.
"How do you feel?" Ronin asked, snapping out of his thoughts.
Elron bowed deeply to Ronin in gratitude. "It feels incredible, My Lord!"
He elaborated, "With this advancement, I’ve mastered four new spells: the Purification Skill, Holy Judgment, Aurora Shadow, and Fatigue Aura."
’Purification Skill?’
Ronin’s eyes lit up. ’Could this spell alleviate Lurans’s symptoms and extend his life?’
As Elron continued his explanation, Ronin got a general understanding of the four spells.
The Purification Skill could only dispel Dark Energy and some negative status effects; its effect on the Soul-Devouring Surge would likely be limited.
Still, Ronin planned to find an opportunity to take Elron to Wushan Castle and try it.
Holy Judgment was an offensive Light Attribute Magic that could unleash intense Light Energy to damage enemies.
Although slightly weaker than the Third-level Fire Magic, the Flame Burst Skill, it was far stronger than the Second-level Magic, Punishment Skill, that Elron had just mastered. This compensated for Elron’s weak offensive capabilities to some extent.
As for Aurora Shadow and Fatigue Aura, both were support spells.
The former increased speed, its effect slightly stronger than the Third-level Wind Attribute Magic, Rapid Speed.
The latter was a debuff that could make enemies feel dejected and lower their willpower. It sounded a bit underwhelming.
’I wonder what the effect would be in a large battle if I cast Vitality Skill on our side and Fatigue Aura on the enemy?’
"My Lord, besides new magic, I also awakened some useful memories."
"Oh? Do tell." Ronin’s curiosity was piqued.
Ridder and Macken had also awakened memories when they leveled up, but theirs were all related to drilling troops and combat.
"After becoming a Chief Mage, I gained a great deal of knowledge about Herbalism and Magic Potions. For example, I can now use various materials from Magical Beasts, combined with certain herbs, to create Magic Potions—like potions to stop bleeding, recovery potions, Burst Potions, and so on."
Ronin’s eyes lit up.
’Herbalism and Magic Potions... just the names alone sounded impressive.’
As far as Ronin knew, the methods for treating illnesses in this world were simple and crude.
Generally, people just had to tough out minor illnesses. For major ones, doctors would resort to treatments like bloodletting, enemas, induced vomiting, or prescribing herbs and animal products, depending on the situation.
The latter two methods were barely acceptable, but the first three were sheer torture for the patient.
His predecessor’s body hadn’t been in good health. He had seen a doctor who claimed it was due to a poor diet and had been forced to vomit many times...
’The Silva Magic Energy Chamber of Commerce also sells Magic Potions, but they aren’t cheap.’
Elron’s newfound ability to craft Magic Potions opened up a whole new area of development for the Wubei Territory.
"What about Herbalism?"
Ronin asked. "What does that entail?"
Elron thought for a moment before replying, "It contains a vast knowledge of medicinal herbs, which will aid in the creation of Magic Potions. Beyond that, it also includes remedies for common ailments like headaches and coughs."
CLAP, CLAP, CLAP. Ronin couldn’t help but applaud.
"Wonderful! This is a huge boon for the Wubei Territory!"
Ronin said, "Elron, I want you to reduce the production volume of Healing Spell Scrolls. From now on, I want you to focus your primary efforts on Herbalism and Magic Potions!"
Wubei Territory still lacked a proper medical system. Since Elron now had the ability, it was time to fill that gap.
"I will raise your daily wage to three Gold Coins, which is appropriate for a Chief Mage. I’ll also give you an additional one hundred Gold Coins as a stipend for your initial research."
Researching Magic Potions was generally a very expensive endeavor.
Although Elron had the boost from his awakened memories and wasn’t starting from scratch, failures were inevitable during the crafting process. It was only natural to provide him with some startup capital.
Of course, the finished products would be sold under Ronin’s authority, and the profits would naturally go into the Wubei Territory’s treasury.
"Thank you for your trust and support, My Lord!"
Elron said gratefully, "My Lord, I would like to recruit two assistants in the Wubei Territory. They could help me collect and organize herbs, as well as handle miscellaneous tasks."
"Of course. You can handle those matters as you see fit."
Ronin naturally had no objections. "Also, feel free to teach the aspects of Herbalism that are useful to the common folk to anyone you trust."
"I understand, My Lord."
Elron didn’t mind sharing his knowledge to help the Wubei Territory; he considered it his duty and obligation.
"Erin is currently studying under me to learn how to create Magic Scrolls. I will teach her the relevant knowledge about Magic Potions as well."
He smiled and added with praise, "The girl can be a bit mischievous at times, but she’s a quick study. Once she becomes a Senior Mage, she could try her hand at making Magic Potions, too."
"Good. Erin is talented; we can’t let that go to waste."
Ronin had been thinking about finding a teacher for Erin, but now it seemed he wouldn’t have to. Elron was a perfect fit.
Even though one was of the Light Attribute and the other of the Water Attribute, specializing in different types of magic, the theoretical knowledge and principles of casting were universal.
Not to mention, with his level increase, Elron’s knowledge and insight had been greatly enhanced, making him the ideal person to teach Erin.
Besides, once he could successfully craft Magic Potions, they would be incredibly valuable, whether sold for profit or kept for use within the Wubei Territory.
In this situation, having one more person master this knowledge would only increase the Wubei Territory’s productivity.
Ronin thought for a moment, then added, "I hear Jenny is showing signs of breaking through to become a Senior Mage. If you need help later on, you can ask her to assist you."
Elron nodded. Back in the Black-collar Tribe, he and Jenny had discussed magic before, so they were already acquainted.
"Mages have a natural interest in these things. She should be more than happy to learn."
