Chapter 13: Add Me Back On Editor: Henyee Translations

"Before that day, I had never even met you before, Mr. Harrison. How could I possibly have told you what I like?"

Rory said this without a second thought.

When she first met Sean Harrison, she did think he looked a little familiar.

After learning the man’s identity, she carefully thought back over her past and was certain there was no possibility they had ever crossed paths.

She had heard Miles mention his youngest uncle before.

But Sean Harrison had been abroad for many years.

When Miles’ eldest uncle passed away unexpectedly and this youngest uncle returned to the country to inherit the company, Miles had been strongly against it at first.

Later, as the Harrington family’s company flourished, his attitude toward his uncle shifted from animosity to respect.

As for her, she had spent the past few years either studying for certifications or interning at the hospital. What little personal time she had left was all given to Miles Harrison.

Even if she had unknowingly run into Sean Harrison at the hospital, there was no way she would have told him what she liked to eat.

Sean sighed and was about to say something when the phone in his pocket rang.

He took out his phone, glanced at it, and showed the screen to Rory.

The caller ID read [Sister-in-law].

It was just a small gesture, but Rory found it a bit strange.

It was the kind of thing that usually only happened between people who knew each other well.

Rory Linden didn’t know why Sean would show it to her.

’Is he telling me to be quiet?’

After showing her, Sean answered the call.

The man didn’t put it on speaker, but Rory could still clearly hear Evelyn’s voice.

"Sean! What do you think you’re doing, getting Miles engaged to that woman? Let me tell you, I don’t approve! I have the final say in this matter!"

Evelyn’s tone was filled with obvious anger.

Sean was leaning back relaxedly in the rear seat of the car. "Sister-in-law, I’m in the car on my way back. Let’s talk when I get home."

"Now? Fine, just get back here." Evelyn couldn’t help but ramble on. "But let me tell you, I only acknowledge Rory as my daughter-in-law. Any other Lucy Shaw, Rose Thorne, or Ruby Wagner—it doesn’t matter who their fathers are, it won’t work!"

The call ended.

Sean looked at the woman beside him, whose face was turned toward the window. "My sister-in-law says she only acknowledges you as her daughter-in-law. If you want to marry Miles, just tell me. I’ll go talk to the Shaw family. Charles Shaw’s company..."

"I don’t want to." Rory cut Sean off. "Mr. Harrison, I broke up with Miles not because I’m waiting for him to win me back, but because I’ve truly decided to end things with him. I’ll tell Auntie Irving that when we get back."

"Alright, I understand," Sean acknowledged.

The roads were clear that evening.

Twenty minutes later, the car pulled up to the Harrington family’s old residence.

Rory got out of the car behind Sean. Watching the light spring in his step as he walked, she had a nagging feeling that the man seemed...

’Is he in a good mood?’

The two of them entered the old residence together. Evelyn was already waiting at the door.

"Sean, I know you’ve done a lot for the Harrington family these past few years. My husband even said that the reason we can still live here, the reason we have the good life we do today is all because of you. But when it comes to my son’s affairs, I still have a right to speak, don’t I?"

The moment Evelyn saw him walk in, she launched into a tirade, clearly fuming.

Rory stood outside the door.

Evelyn hadn’t seen her yet.

Sean just stood there in the doorway, showing no intention of letting her in.

"I apologize. Perhaps I was inconsiderate in this matter." Sean paused before continuing his explanation. "However, the Shaw family’s company has run into some trouble. Miles probably doesn’t know about it yet. If the engagement announcement is made public, the Shaw family’s current difficulties will be easily resolved."

"The Shaw family’s company is in trouble?!" Evelyn was so angry she felt dizzy. "Then isn’t that woman just using our Miles!"

"Miss Shaw probably doesn’t know about the company’s situation. Besides, since the two of them are already living together, they’re a unit now. Miles would want to help the Shaw family get through this crisis," Sean explained.

"So what if they’re living together? It’s only been a few days," Evelyn said angrily. "He and Rory lived together for four years. If anything, the one he should be marrying is Rory."

"They were never actually in a relationship, were they?" Sean continued. "In fact, I’ve seen Miles at bars a few times over the years, and the women he was intimate with were never Miss Linden."

Rory gave a bitter smile to herself.

She had actually known all of this for a while.

"Of course they were in a relationship! They’ve been dating for four years."

"If that’s the case, then Miles was indeed in the wrong side."

"Aren’t all men like that!" Evelyn Irving couldn’t help but say. "They play around when they’re young, but once they’ve had their fun and are ready to settle down, they’ll naturally realize how good Rory is and marry her to live a proper life."

Hearing this, Rory finally couldn’t take it anymore.

She walked in from outside the doorway.

"Auntie Irving, I will always remember the kindness the Harrington family has shown me over the years, but... I will not marry Miles Harrison."

Rory’s gaze was firm, her tone exceptionally resolute.

She didn’t know how to express herself to make Evelyn understand that what she was saying was a final decision.

"Rory." Evelyn’s expression froze for a moment before she quickly pulled her over to explain, "Miles is just fooling around. He just called me and said he and Lucy Shaw aren’t a good match."

Rory asked directly, "Not a good match, but they’re still sleeping together?"

"He..."

"Auntie Irving, I have a question that might be a bit offensive, but I have to ask." It was a question Rory had wanted to ask for a long time. "If I were your biological daughter, would you want me to marry a man like Miles?"

As the question hung in the air, the entire foyer fell silent.

Every bit of expression froze on Evelyn’s face. She was rendered speechless.

She had always considered things from Miles’s perspective, for his benefit.

She knew Rory was the perfect choice for a wife.

But she had never once thought about it from Rory’s point of view.

Rory didn’t need an answer from Evelyn anymore. "Auntie Irving, I’m just an ordinary person. I’m not looking for a life of immense wealth and luxury. I just hope my other half will love me, be faithful, dependable, and responsible. That’s all."

Sean raised a hand and patted Rory on the shoulder. "Alright, go get some rest. You have surgery tomorrow."

Rory nodded.

She regretted it as soon as she was back in her room.

She regretted what she had just said to Evelyn.

Evelyn had been good to her all these years. It wasn’t wrong of her to want Rory to stay by her side for the long haul as her daughter-in-law.

After thinking for a long time, Rory decided to go and apologize to Evelyn.

She had just opened her door, and the warm lights of the hallway were on, and a man was standing a few meters from her door...

It was Miles.

"Rory." Seeing Rory come out, Miles took out his phone. "Is the show over? Add me back on the contact. I’ll pay you back."

He paused for a moment, then added, "All of it."
