Chapter 167: Chapter 167: The Secret from Ten Years Ago 1

Brandan’s face darkened as soon as he received the call.

He had really been very busy recently.

A shipment from the company had gone missing in Russia, reportedly related to the Russian mafia. He needed to send someone for investigation, in addition to dealing with Iris Harris’s illness.

A suitable marrow match was still nowhere to be found, while the acute leukemia was progressing rapidly. The doctor told him that Iris Harris didn’t have much time left, and without a suitable marrow match, she might not make it.

He had breezed through life, hardly encountering any setbacks. He was so proud and self-assured, he never imagined that one day, he wouldn’t even be able to save the life of the person he loved.

He thought there would be plenty of time in the future to hold on to her and was prepared for a long battle, but fate told him that there was no time left.

There was no time left.

He had never tasted the bitterness of failure, but if Iris Harris were to really die, he could never forgive himself.

She was killed by his own hands.

He couldn’t let this happen.

After Brandan left the company, someone called him to say they had found Iris Harris’s whereabouts.

In River City, it was really easy for him to find someone, especially with surveillance.

The surveillance showed that after Iris Harris left the hospital, she took a car heading east.

When Lady Hyde learned of this news, her face turned ashen.

"Brandan! Go to the seaside, hurry to the seaside!"

"Mom?"

"Quickly, go to the seaside! Iris is there, she must be there..."

Lady Hyde’s voice trembled uncontrollably on the phone. Although Brandan was puzzled about how Lady Hyde knew Iris Harris’s whereabouts, he still drove toward the seaside.

He felt a bit anxious, and his palms were slightly sweaty on the steering wheel.

If Iris Harris was really at the seaside, what was she planning to do?

She originally didn’t want to live anymore, she...

Brandan pressed his lips tightly together and stepped on the gas.

At dusk, the seaside was a spectacular sight.

Masses of blazing clouds turned the ocean a blood-red color.

Brandan parked the car by the seaside and looked up at the rocks not far away.

A petite and slender figure sat there hugging her knees, the sea breeze blowing through her long hair, causing it to dance wildly in the wind.

Brandan’s heart calmed down a little.

She was indeed here.

Luckily, she was safe...

Brandan lifted his foot and walked toward Iris Harris.

"Iris." He stopped behind her, "It’s getting dark, let’s go back."

Iris Harris hugged her knees, facing away from him. She gazed at the sky, and when she heard his voice, she slowly stood up. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"Do you remember? That day," she looked at the sunset in the sky, "the sky was the same color. Very red, red like blood."

Brandan slightly furrowed his brows.

He didn’t understand what she was talking about.

But he dared not provoke her; one more step forward and she would be in the sea.

Iris Harris turned around, her gaze fell onto his face, and then she seemed absent-minded, smiling slightly.

"Don’t remember, right?" she chuckled softly, but tears fell, "but that day, I’ll remember it for the rest of my life."

She wouldn’t forget the sky that day, nor would she forget the way he held her hand seriously, telling her he’d come back.

"You told me to wait." She whispered, "I waited. But why did you break your promise?"
