Love Command: Darling, Do You Yield?-Chapter 172: A Twist of Fate 1
Brandan Hyde had a dream.
In the dream, it was a blur, and he kept falling straight into the darkness, falling and falling... as if he would never wake up.
The first sense that came back was his sense of smell.
The faint scent of antiseptic and alcohol swabs mixed together made him very uncomfortable. No wonder Iris Harris didn’t want to stay in the hospital; the smell here was indeed unbearable.
It was lifeless, infinitely close to death.
He slowly opened his eyes and looked at the ceiling above. Someone was holding his hand, and a soft sobbing sound drifted through the air.
Brandan turned his head and saw his mother’s tearful eyes. The day had already broken. He didn’t know when it happened, but she seemed not to have slept all night, looking very haggard.
"Brandan, you’re awake?"
Lady Hyde, hearing the commotion, immediately lifted her head. She anxiously grabbed Brandan’s hand, "Do you still feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
"... What happened to me?"
Brandan raised his hand and rubbed his temples.
His head was pounding with pain, and he lightly furrowed his brows.
"Stomach bleeding." Lady Hyde looked at his complexion, hesitated for a moment, and said softly, "It’s quite serious. The doctor says you need to rest properly."
"..."
Brandan was silent for a moment, then nodded before asking, "How is she?"
Lady Hyde knew whom he was talking about. She replied to Brandan, "The doctor said Iris has passed the critical stage. Once she wakes up, she’ll be fine. Brandan..." Lady Hyde gently held his hand, "Don’t worry."
After asking these questions, Brandan didn’t say anything more.
He lightly closed his eyes, the peaceful sunlight from outside falling on his exquisitely handsome face, his expression somewhat obscure.
After a long while, he asked, "My brother... is also called Brandan Hyde?"
Lady Hyde’s fingers tightened, and she glanced anxiously at Brandan. However, Brandan’s expression was peaceful, revealing nothing.
"... No, he’s not." She shook her head with some difficulty, "Your brother’s name is Caleb Hyde."
Brandan lowered his eyes and suddenly laughed softly, "So... that’s why she called me Brandan?"
He wasn’t sure what to feel—there was some absurdity, a bit of bitterness, but above all, a deep confusion.
So, even this term of endearment she used just for him was false.
If these past ten years were just a mistaken identity for Iris Harris, then what about him? What were these ten years for him?
What about those memories and emotions ingrained in him?
Brandan couldn’t utter a word, he closed his eyes slightly, his expression showing some endurance, as if suppressing something, while his fingertips lightly trembled.
What a fool.
He thought.
How could he be so foolish, not only mistaking someone but also spending ten years waiting for someone who could never return.
"Did she never suspect my name?"
Upon hearing this, Lady Hyde let out a powerless, bitter laugh.
"How could she suspect? To the outside world, the Hyde Residence only has one child. Besides, you two look exactly alike. She just thought you had amnesia, that your personality had changed drastically..." At this point, Lady Hyde slowly closed her eyes, tears uncontrollably falling again, "At first, I deliberately hid the truth... but later, I was too afraid to say anything. I feared that telling her would be too much for Iris to handle... she really gave too much, just watching it terrified me... I intended to take this secret to my grave, for her sake. But... I never imagined, in my wildest dreams, I never imagined... things would end up like this..."
