Chapter 598: The Ancient Curse (Cecillia’s Point Of View)

At that time, I could only be silent. My body felt stiff. I had never heard that voice, but it seemed like his voice immediately shook my heart greatly.

"Miss, can’t you see?" he asked.

I shook my head. I didn’t know what kind of answer I should give. Besides, I was confused about how to get back to the castle now? Should I turn around? But, in which direction? I, myself, didn’t know where I fell before.

I was about to ask for help until I felt my body lifted by someone. It felt like floating in the air. I could feel a pair of strong and sturdy hands holding me from falling.

"I can walk alone."

"You know the way home?" asked the mysterious man. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"I think I’m lost."

It was surprising to me that, at that moment, I did not feel afraid at all. I wasn’t stammering or nervous. Somehow, it felt right to be in his embrace. My feeling told me that he was a really kind man, and I didn’t feel any signs of aggression from him at all.

"Where is your house?" asked the man.

"Birwick Castle."

"Ah... that place...."

"Do you know it?"

"Of course. There isn’t a single area here that I don’t know about."

I asked again if I could walk on my own, but the mysterious man didn’t seem to pay heed to me. I could only feel the wind blowing harder. Did the man run while carrying me? Was I not too heavy?

It didn’t take long for the man to put me back down.

"Walk a hundred steps forward, and you’ll find a guard who might be looking for you."

The man turned my body the other way.

"Wait, Sir! What’s your name? I want to say thank you."

"It’s a secret," he whispered right in my ear and I could feel a light kiss landed on my neck. I turned around to stop him because what he did just now was rude. But like the wind, when I stretched out my hand, I couldn’t feel anything. It was just an empty space.

Not even his stomping feet could be heard. The man had completely disappeared like magic. I felt weird at that time. It felt... my heart was beating really fast in a strange way. I had interacted with many humans, but I remembered that I had never ever felt this strange feeling from anyone.

The most weird thing was that my face felt hot. But, this time was different... It wasn’t hot because I was holding back tears, but something else that I didn’t understand. His voice still lingered in my ear. His breath was still tickling. I touched the part of my neck where he had kissed. There was a little tickle sensation that was coming from somewhere? Was I infected with a new type of disease?

Was that a new way of greeting? Because all I knew, men usually greeted a woman by kissing the back of the hand... not the neck... Then, why did he keep his name a secret? I wouldn’t recognize him without knowing his name.

I had no visual memory of him, so I would never know what that man looked like.

When I was too busy with my own thoughts, suddenly I heard a lady-in-waiting’s voice calling for me. I turned around and walked in the direction the mysterious man had directed

"Princess... where have you been? The king and queen will be arriving in a moment... They will be very worried if you don’t return before dinner..." the lady-in-waiting said.

"Calm down... I’m here now..."

"You’re so dirty... Come on, we have to get you cleaned up first before the king and queen arrive."

"Alright, please guide me."

"Yes, Princess...."

I was used to the protests from my ladies-in-waiting, so I just chuckled and obeyed everything they told me. If they told me to stand still, then I would do it. If they told me to raise my hand, then I did it. If they told me to open my mouth, then I also did it.

I really really depended on them. Without all of them, maybe I was just an abandoned doll. I was quite aware that due to my shortcomings, I was often called a doll.

They said it was a compliment because I was beautiful, but I didn’t feel like that. I was a doll because I couldn’t do anything without the strings they pulled to do something. But, I kept it all to myself because I didn’t want them to be sad.

The dinner tasted as usual. Father couldn’t calm down because he hadn’t yet found the guardian of Birwick who was said to be the incarnation of the Sun God. Father also tried to negotiate with the dragon clan to ask for their help in protecting Birwick, but the dragons turned down my father’s offer.

"Those dragons are the lowest of beings! How could they underestimate human power? Instead of wanting to protect Birwick, they wanted to challenge King Theodore!? I hope they are defeated and realize that their pride is completely useless in this war."

I put my cutlery back down as my father slammed his hand on the dining table. It seemed now wasn’t the right time to eat a delicious meal that the chefs worked hard to make.

"Honey... calm down... at least eat something first. You haven’t eaten since yesterday," my mother said softly.

"And the God of Birwick!? Bah! I think it’s just bullshit? There really aren’t any gods in this place! This place is only inhabited by beings with dignity the size of peas and brains the size of fleas."

"Honey... we still have time to look for the whereabouts of the God of Birwick. He will certainly never leave this mountain. He will surely protect this territory of Birwick."

I didn’t know what happened. I could only hear the sound of chairs moving and my father’s heavy footsteps walking away out of the room. My hearing was so sharp that even my mother’s long sighs could be heard clearly in my ears.
