Chapter 743: Preparing Lunch

Arielle and Ronan returned to the house, which was already clean and tidy like before. The alcohol bottles that had been collected have been brought by the maids to be disposed of. Coming home with a clean house like this was the most pleasant thing.

Ronan offered to take Arielle’s coat before following his wife into the kitchen. Arielle then opened the cabinet where the maids had prepared new ingredients for them.

Arielle could have asked the help of the maids to prepare food for them, but she wanted to use this moment to get closer to her friends in Northendell. That way, she only ordered the maid to prepare the groceries every morning as Arielle and Aimee would cook for everyone. Of course, it had been approved by Ronan.

Ronan returned to the kitchen. He folded his sleeves and stood beside his wife who was preparing various ingredients and condiments for making steak.

"What should I help you with?" asked Ronan as he stood beside Arielle.

"Could you wash the vegetables?"

"Should it be washed? Aren’t all the palace’s ingredients the best? Why not just cut it right away? I’m sure Lucas stocked up on fresh groceries for us."

"I know. It’s just that these ingredients have been brought for several days from the palace and are not properly stored in the carriage. It’s most likely already contaminated with something else. Apart from that, washing them makes us even more sure that the food we consume is clean and healthy," said Arielle.

"Alright, I understand." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Ronan washed all the vegetables that Arielle had taken out. The running water from the faucet was quite cold. He was used to it, so he didn’t protest much as he just did the task his wife gave him.

Arielle saw the water splashed on her husband’s clothes. She walked around the kitchen to a cabinet that kept several white aprons. She took one and dusted it off.

The girl then stood behind Ronan.

"Here, you can use this so the water doesn’t get on your clothes," Arielle said as she draped the apron over the man’s head and tied it behind his back.

"You did well," Arielle praised him while nodding briefly.

"It’s nothing," Ronan replied proudly.

After placing all the vegetables he washed in a new container, Ronan brought them to Arielle. The girl gave him a medium-sized knife and taught him how to cut vegetables properly.

"Position your hand like this. Be careful. I don’t want you to get hurt."

"I am a knight who possesses extraordinary sword skills, Arielle. Things like this won’t kill me," said Ronan, assuring his wife that cutting vegetables was nothing.

Ronan watched and observed how Arielle held the vegetables and the knife. ’That’s easy enough,’ he thought. Then, Arielle gave the knife to him. He quickly tried to position his hands and fingers the same as the girl did before and started cutting the vegetables.

"Cut it a bit thinner than that," Arielle gave instructions while showing the vegetables she had cut.

"Thinner?"

Ronan looked at the vegetables he had cut and then compared it to the example Arielle had made earlier. It was three times bigger than the girl’s. He then tried to hold the vegetables tighter to keep them in place.

"Don’t over-crush the vegetables. It will make them give off a stronger scent. If you do it like that, then there will be little left when it’s cooked."

"Ah... I see... Okay, I understand."

Ronan focused all his concentration on the vegetables in front of him, while Arielle watched the man attentively. She could see the wrinkles on her husband’s forehead were getting clearer. Arielle turned around to prepare something else. She didn’t want to disturb the man’s concentration.

"Arielle, look! I did it!" Ronan exclaimed enthusiastically, asking his wife to see the results of his work.

Arielle turned around and nodded. "Perfect, you can do it for the rest."

Ronan let out a long sigh upon seeing that the vegetables he had washed earlier were still piled up in front of him. They had to cook for seven people with a portion of four adult men. Of course, they needed more ingredients.

Although Ronan felt tired, he still did it. At least this way he could reduce Arielle’s burden so the girl didn’t work her fingers to the bone. Arielle then gave examples of several types of vegetables that should be cut in different ways. Ronan accepted the new challenge.

Arielle turned around again to prepare the meat, which she had sliced into seven pieces. Ronan finished everything at a fairly slow pace. It made Arielle want to do it all herself, but cooking together was her idea, so she had to wait patiently for Ronan to finish his part.

"Arielle... um... my hand hurt a little, but I’m fine. It doesn’t hurt."

Arielle briskly turned around again and saw her husband’s finger bleeding.

"Ronan... gosh... Put down the knife. Clean up your wounds here first!"

Arielle took her husband’s hand and cleaned the wound on the tip of his forefinger with warm water as she released a bit of her power. The wound wasn’t that deep. Ronan didn’t feel the least bit hurt. He was only worried if his blood made the cut vegetables unfit to eat.

Arielle dried the man’s and wrapped it with a clean cloth.

"Just let me finish this. You can just wait at the table," she said as she took over the vegetables.

Ronan obeyed and watched how Arielle’s hands did all of that easily, and it was so fast. He didn’t even have time to blink. His head and eyes follow his wife’s every move. Then, he was surprised to see that Arielle had already put a slice of meat in the fry pan.

"Can I do it?" Ronan asked upon seeing how easily Arielle pan-seared the meat with butter and rosemary after adding a pinch of salt and black pepper.

Arielle looked at Ronan’s hand, which was no longer bleeding and handed the fry pan handle to her husband. She told him to continue pouring the melted butter in the fry pan onto the top of the meat.

"It’s easy enough."

"Do it until it reaches the level of doneness you want."

"Arielle! Arielle! Arielle!"

Arielle and Ronan turned towards the kitchen door when they heard Irene’s voice, which sounded so excited.
