Chapter 73: The Demon Of Death & Fury (2).

Roxy tried to breathe or think but her brain was on the verge of exploding, she had a feeling that she could escape the horrible predicament if only she could snap her fingers. But it was only a feeling and not a concrete thought, this left her in an almost helpless state.

Avan Lahor’s face remained pale and placid as he watched the two awakened bleed out from their skulls. His face grew increasingly annoyed, by the second. "Never once have I failed to complete my task, I will not begin now." He increased the intensity of his attack, ready to pop their brains when the door at the end of the hall flew open.

A strange fluctuation of energy flooded the hallway coating everything in a soft mist, the mind attack of the superhuman was instantly cut off from him causing him to withdraw drastically.

Avan Lahor could not explain it but he could feel a strong power overpowering his senses and forcing him to behave. His face broke into a heavy sweat, he looked towards the being standing at the end of the hall and wished he didn’t. There was this indescribable aura around the person, it was like staring at something hideous and terrifying but also pure in a way. It was like staring at death.

The figure walked into the hall in slow deliberate steps, his every shadow bending away from him. When he spoke, he commanded every eye. "I sense one of you is strong enough to keep me entertained."

"What the hell is that?" Guetta said as he lay on all fours coughing blood and trying to catch his breath on the floor.

Xavax snapped his fingers and almost instantaneously Guetta’s arm was engulfed in a black flame, he threw his head back and fell into a chaotic helpless state. "No, not you."

The entity said with cold indifference before staring right at Roxy who looked at him with surprisingly annoyed eyes, "Who the hell are you and why did you attack him?" She barked as she was still desperately trying to catch her breath.

Xavax said nothing, he simply looked down at her with empty eyes before snapping his fingers once more. The fire burning up Guetta’s arm covered up his whole body, throwing him into even more turmoil.

Roxy gnashed her teeth before picking up her scimitar and tossing it at Xavax who simply swatted it aside with ill interest. She vanished and appeared right at the helm of her scimitar, gripping it tightly and swinging it right for his neck.

Xavax’s eyes simply shifted to the side, almost like he had read her intention beforehand. For Roxy whenever she used her ability it always seemed the world spun faster than it should have but at the moment everything was slow and deadly. Her eyes widened as she realised that she had been found out.

Xavax took two simple steps back, allowing the tip of her blade to cut clean through the air itself. But Roxy was not done.

"Flowing water battle art, first technique. Overflow!" She lunged forward with her powerful charge, all her muscles straining more than they initially should. To her surprise her attack was stopped by a single flick of Xavax’s finger.

Roxy trembled as she felt the overbearing aura emanating from the entity before her, every cell in her body was practically screaming at her to run but she stayed knowing fully well that showing her back to this person would be her own undoing.

What upset her more than anything was the lifeless look the entity had on his face, it almost felt like staring at something unbothered by the structures of the very world. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"Flowing water battle art, second technique. Ripping tide." She screamed at the top of her lungs as she started her flurry of dedicated and precise slashes on the entity, yet with each slash she made she could feel the cuts closing up almost immediately.

It made her wonder what sort of monster she was up against, there was no time to think of where it had come from or what it was doing there. To be clear, nothing made much sense to her anymore.

What was supposed to be a straightforward job of having twelve awakened superhumans protecting a little girl from a monster had turned into a bloodbath with hundreds dead, a corpse puppeteer, a mind attacker and now an unstoppable being.

"You bore me." Xavax said as he nonchalantly threw a blow for her chest, only to hear a finger snapping and have his hand thrusting into the chest of Avan Lahor whose eyes widened in shock.

Roxy had swapped their locations in the last moment and appeared at the distance, she was almost suffocating under the intense aura of Xavax. "Shit, I only have one more swap left." She tightened her grip on her weapons. And dashed forward.

Avan Lahor’s eyes continued to widen till his breath slowly seized and his eyes rolled back into their sockets, in his final moments he tried to fight back but his powers failed to work against the entity. ’No, I can’t die like this. I still have a job to do."

Xavax ripped out his heart and turned to face Roxy who was charging towards him. "Impressive." His tone remained surprisingly neutral through this exchange. He looked at her but did not rush to meet her, he simply remained still.

Roxy could hear Guetta crying from the intense pain in the background, and she tried to ignore it but it threatened to force old memories to resurface. As she charged forward she thought of her next strategy, she could use her powers to escape-- for all she knew Leo could be dead. Everything had already gone to hell either way.

Staying and fighting would be suicide but something within her persisted, telling her that she would hate herself for making the same mistake she did in her past abandoning a comrade.

If she was going to fight, she only had one use of her best ability left. How she used it would decide if she had a chance of winning this fight. But of course she could simply swap his location with one of the bodies somewhere in the compound but she doubted that would be in any way wise.

Roxy observed everything about this strange person trying to discern his next action but he remained unmoving. She had heard of fighters having perfect form but this was the opposite, it was baseless and unable to predict. Was there really any way to beat something so powerful and unpredictable.

Roxy eventually snapped her fingers and switched her body once more with Avan Lahor who was already dead, putting her behind Xavax who now had his back to her with the hopes of piercing through his heart. The moment she materialised however she found two fingers barely inches from impaling her eyes. Roxy did not have the time to think or comprehend the unnatural speed of her opponent neither did she have time to hesitate or contemplate how helpless her situation was.

Xavax had sensed Roxy interrupt his space the moment she appeared behind him and effortlessly neutralised her, for a moment he had expected her to put up a decent fight but he grew bored once more.
