Lustful Demon King: Summoned by the Demon Goddesses!-Chapter 156: Sabrina!
The air between them grew much more comfortable after Ashanti’s declaration. Jax smiled as he saw Ashanti also growing more relaxed and confident after speaking.
She now had a purpose, a goal to work towards, and that inspired her. The subtle uncertainty and hesitation that once cloaked all of her movements and words now seemed to quiet down, and her mana signature grew sharper.
For several moments, neither of them spoke.
Wind moved across the elevated platform, carrying distant music from lower celebration tiers. The scent of mana-infused night blossoms drifted faintly through the air. Somewhere far below, a trade agreement finalized with the soft chime of binding sigils locking into place.
Then Jax exhaled slowly, "There’s something else," he said.
Ashanti turned her face slightly toward him, attentive immediately.
"Yes?"
"I already have plans for how to use you in Combat, so you don’t need to worry about being integrated," He said, and Ashanti listened without interrupting him.
"But that isn’t all I’m working on," Jax said with a faint pause before continuing, "I’m also working on a plan for your eyes."
Ashanti froze for a millisecond as she heard that, her entire aura stilled with such complete stillness that it felt like sound itself had paused to listen.
"...My... eyes?"
Jax nodded slightly, though he knew she could not see it.
"Yes," Jax said as he continued, "I tasked Willow and the other Witches to begin investigating branches to try and find a way to repair your vision. They’re working hard on it right now," Jax said.
Ashanti’s fingers curled faintly in disbelief as she heard all of this, but Jax’s voice remained steady, "This is not something that can be done quickly. The damage was not merely physical. Your optic pathways were destroyed during an uncontrolled power surge tied directly to your core mana architecture."
He paused.
"Repairing that requires rewriting systems that have already stabilized in a new configuration. Attempting to reverse it improperly could destabilize your mana entirely,"
After Jax said that, it was near total silence for a few moments, the only sound being the whistling of the wind around them before Ashanti spoke.
"...So," she whispered carefully, "it may not be possible."
Jax turned slightly toward her, "It is possible," he said, certain, "But it’ll take a-lot of time, years perhaps,"
Her breath caught quietly in her throat. Years. For most beings, that would sound discouraging. But for someone who had lived in darkness since childhood, Years meant something else entirely.
It meant hope with structure. Something she could look forward to.
"I don’t want you waiting in uncertainty," Jax continued gently. "So I’m telling you now. The process has already begun. But it is long-term. You do not need to think about it. You do not need to worry about progress or timelines."
His voice lowered slightly.
"Just wait for me."
The words settled into the air with quiet weight. Ashanti did not respond immediately. Her hands trembled once before stilling again and she lowered her head slightly.
When she spoke, her voice was softer than he had ever heard it, "...No one ever said that before. They said they would help me adjust," she continued quietly, "Help me adapt. Help me live well as I am."
A fragile breath.
"They never said... they would try to give it back."
Silence stretched between them again as Ashanti slowly turned toward him fully, though her sightless eyes remained gently unfocused as always before giving a graceful curtsy with as much sincerity as she could.
"Thank you... for everything you’ve given us," she said softly. "Safety... stability... purpose..."
Her voice wavered slightly.
"...And for believing I can still become something more."
Jax did not stop her. When she straightened again, her expression was calm, but luminous in a way that had nothing to do with sight.
For the first time since he had known herShe did not feel like someone who had lost something. She felt like someone who was moving toward something.
After a moment, Jax stepped back slightly, "No need to thank me, it’s my duty as a King. Now I should return," he said.
Ashanti nodded immediately, "Yes... of course."
A faint smile touched her lips, "I will prepare myself."
"Good," Jax said, turning away from the railing and teleporting himself towards one of the Administration Buildings within Aeternum Noctis.
This was one of the buildings where all the important decisions were made. Clan Leaders would work here constantly to keep tabs on how the Capital was progressing and plan for the future.
In this administrative core of the City, the atmosphere was quite different. The mana grids were noticeably denser, military presence was much higher with security as well.
Here, decisions that shaped entire territories were made with quiet precision and at the center of all of that was Sabrina, who Jax had arrived to meet.
He did not slow down, his senses extending outward in a precise manner to try and locate the familiar, vibrant and commanding aura of the Succubus Saintess who he had trusted with a huge load of these responsibilities.
True to her style of management, Sabrina was exactly where he expected, working with various Witches sent by Willow to coordinate and manage a new process, this time an operation to create a suitable farming area to begin agricultural production.
As she was doing this, Jax reached out to her, his voice appearing in her mind, "Sabrina,"
The Succubus Saintess was startled initially, but quickly regained her composure and responded instantly, "My King, what is the matter?"
"I need to meet with you." Jax responded instantly and Sabrina didn’t hesitate to dismiss the Witches to return to their work after hearing that.
"Of course, where shall I come?" Sabrina asked.
Jax’s gaze lifted slightly toward the towering administrative spires rising ahead, "Meet me in the administrative chamber you had built for me, I’m on my way there now,"
A single heartbeat of silence and then,"I will be there before you arrive."
He smiled faintly as he heard that, and Jax continued on his way to meet her.
