Madam, Please Behave-Chapter 295: No Hope
Chen Dafu’s voice was filled with fear.
When Liu Changqing heard the words “Help me” come through the receiver, he froze in place. After a few seconds of stunned silence, he finally asked:
“What happened?”
【I… I was attacked…】
His tone was extremely weak. It sounded like Chen Dafu wasn’t out of danger yet.
Hearing that, Liu Changqing’s expression turned serious. Being attacked wasn’t a small matter—and judging from how the guy had to gasp for breath between words, this could be really bad.
Before Liu Changqing could even offer a word of comfort, Chen Dafu’s weak voice came again.
【That guy… didn’t hold back at all… he hit so hard… he wasn’t planning to let me off at all…】
“Forget that for now—where are you?”
【I… I… I’m hiding inside a trash can…】
“A trash can?”
For someone to scare Chen Dafu into hiding in a trash can, the attacker must’ve gone full force—swift, brutal, and ruthless.
There was no other way to explain how terrified Chen Dafu sounded.
Sure, the guy was never serious about anything, had the weirdest logic, looked totally average, and always did dumb stuff.
But that didn’t mean he wasn’t a good person.
And now, someone like him had been attacked this viciously—Liu Changqing couldn’t just ignore it.
Still holding his phone, he headed straight for the door while trying to calm Chen Dafu on the other end.
“Don’t panic right now. Just tell me roughly where you are. I’ll find you first and then call the cops.”
【Okay… please come quick…】
Then, Chen Dafu told him his general location.
Hearing that, Liu Changqing’s expression changed.
That spot was… just a short distance from his own home.
At that moment, a wave of urgency rose inside him.
He gave Chen Dafu a few more instructions, hung up the phone, changed his shoes, and opened the door. Before leaving, he turned back and told An Yuanyao:
“You two be careful. If someone knocks, check the peephole first. Chen Dafu just said he was attacked nearby by a very vicious guy. Just to be safe—when Zhiyue gets back, lock the door right away. No matter who comes, don’t open it.”
“Got it!”
An Yuanyao had vaguely heard the conversation between Liu Changqing and Chen Dafu. Though she didn’t know all the details, judging by how serious Liu Changqing looked, it was clearly no small matter.
Once she replied, Liu Changqing walked out the door and headed downstairs.
He got in his car and drove straight to the area Chen Dafu had mentioned on the phone.
—
Two minutes after Liu Changqing drove off—
Liu Zhiyue, head down, was walking while examining the jade pendant he had picked up, trying to make sense of the carved characters on it.
He turned a corner and headed toward home.
When he reached his front door and was about to unlock it, he slid the key into the keyhole—only to hear movement inside.
A few moments later, a voice came through the door, a bit muffled:
“Is… is that you, Zhiyue?”
“Huh? Yeah, it’s me… what’s wrong?”
Just as he replied, Liu Zhiyue realized he couldn’t turn the key.
Inside, An Yuanyao had her hand gripping the lock handle upward. Through the peephole, she saw Liu Zhiyue standing outside, looking confused.
Her nerves instantly settled.
“Whew… scared the life out of me.”
She muttered, then opened the door. Peeking out to check the stairwell first—confirming no shady figures were lurking—she reached out and yanked Liu Zhiyue inside.
Clang! The door slammed shut behind him.
Still dazed, Liu Zhiyue looked at An Yuanyao, who had just acted so jumpy, and his little sister, her hair a mess, clinging tightly to An Yuanyao’s clothes.
Only after all that did An Yuanyao finally exhale, still looking rattled. But before she could say anything, Liu Zhiyue opened the door again.
He stepped out, pulled the key out of the keyhole, came back in, and shut the door behind him.
Then, looking totally confused, he asked:
“What happened? Why… why are you both so freaked out?”
Liu Changqing drove into a somewhat deserted residential area. Following Chen Dafu’s voice on the phone, he gradually slowed the car and parked.
After getting out, he scanned the surroundings carefully. Seeing no one around, he picked up a solid rock from the ground—just in case.
Holding the rock in one hand and his phone in the other, he walked toward the nearby trash bins. When he reached them, he opened the lid—only to see Chen Dafu curled up inside, looking like he was on the brink of collapse.
The rock in Liu Changqing’s hand dropped to the ground.
Chen Dafu, sensing the lid open, had a look of pure relief on his face. Just before losing consciousness, he muttered to Liu Changqing:
“Call… call an ambulance…”
“Dafu!!”
Liu Changqing’s voice echoed across the empty area.
—
Chen Dafu felt like he’d had a long, long dream.
In the dream, he had managed to get Gu Xiyu’s number. Wanting to surprise her at her place, he hid near the bike shed.
He had even prepared fireworks, planning to grab Gu Xiyu when she came down and take her to the spot to light them up—a symbol of their love.
Just as he was about to call her, pain exploded in his back.
The dim surroundings made it impossible to see his attacker’s face, but judging by the build, it was a tall, slim man.
The guy was vicious—no mercy at all.
Chen Dafu ran for his life, only to be knocked down by a brick. If he hadn’t faked passing out and used that moment to slip away…
The consequences would’ve been unimaginable.
He even dreamed of calling Liu Changqing, and after running a bit to avoid being found, he randomly hid inside a trash can nearby.
The last thing he saw in the dream was Liu Changqing’s face outside the bin.
The dream felt so real.
So real that Chen Dafu thought it had actually happened.
As his awareness gradually returned, Chen Dafu felt control of his body coming back. He tried to move his fingers.
But his eyelids felt like they weighed a thousand pounds—he couldn’t open them.
Still, his ears caught the sound of a familiar voice… Liu Changqing’s.
Saying…
“Doctor? Is he… going to be okay?”
Then came a stranger’s reply:
“The patient’s condition is critical. The brain suffered severe trauma, resulting in serious paralysis of the lower body. I’m afraid he may never run freely again in his life.”
UGH!!!
Hearing that, Chen Dafu’s heart sank.
