Madam, Please Behave-Chapter 296: The Vicious Attacker
Chen Dafu was terrified.
Fear surged through him like a flood, pushing his body to its limits as he desperately tried to regain control over himself.
His fingers twitched nonstop.
But Liu Changqing didn’t see any of that.
Maybe out of boredom, Liu Changqing sat with his back to Chen Dafu, a bag of five-spice sunflower seeds in hand, a trash bin by his feet.
In front of him was the TV, which was playing a hospital drama.
In the show, the male lead had been attacked and suffered a serious brain injury. His brother—the second male lead—was urgently questioning the doctor.
The doctor, in turn, explained that the patient might never wake up, and even if he did, he would be paralyzed from the waist down and never again be able to run freely like a normal person.
Hearing that line from the doctor—
Liu Changqing nearly laughed out loud and joked:
“Might as well saw the leg off then, hahaha, what a joke…”
Little did he know—this line reached Chen Dafu’s ears loud and clear.
He was dumbfounded.
He hadn’t caught the whole conversation, but he’d clearly heard the part where Liu Changqing suggested sawing off the leg.
Even with his eyes still tightly shut, his lips started trembling like he had something to say. The only parts of his body he could move—his middle and ring fingers—were curling and extending repeatedly.
It was like he was trying to tell someone he could still be saved.
On the TV—
The doctor said to the second male lead:
“Sign the papers.”
That was the final straw. Chen Dafu couldn’t hold it in anymore. For the first time in his life, an overwhelming will to survive burst out of him as he broke through all barriers, opened his mouth, and roared from the depths of his soul—
“I’m still alive!! Don’t saw off my legs!!”
CRACK!
A sunflower seed shell split between Liu Changqing’s teeth. Hearing the outburst behind him, he nearly choked. He froze, sunflower seeds in hand, completely caught off guard.
Once he came back to his senses, he quickly put the seeds on the nearby table, turned around, and looked at the hospital bed.
He leaned in, seeing Chen Dafu’s brows furrowed in pain, and slapped his face lightly while calling out:
“Wake up, come on, wake up!”
“I’m still alive! You bunch of quacks! Why are you trying to saw off my legs!!”
His speech was loud and clear.
As Liu Changqing kept patting him, Chen Dafu gradually calmed down. Seeing this, Liu Changqing let out a sigh of relief.
But just as he was about to go call a doctor, he saw Chen Dafu’s eyes—previously tightly shut—suddenly snap open, wide and round like a ghost refusing to die in a horror film.
His eyes bulged out.
Liu Changqing instinctively took a step back.
He was honestly startled by that face.
Chen Dafu was now fully awake. Staring at the unfamiliar ceiling, he looked shell-shocked, frozen for about half a minute, mouth open, gasping for air. freewebnσvel.cѳm
Then, as if regaining awareness, he turned his head and saw Liu Changqing beside him.
Recognizing his face, Chen Dafu snapped out of his daze, reached out, grabbed Liu Changqing’s wrist, and screamed hysterically:
“It was you! You’re the one who signed the damn consent form to let those quacks saw off my legs!!”
Then he went completely ballistic, shouting:
“I’m only 25! I haven’t even fallen in love yet! I haven’t had enough fun! Without legs, how am I supposed to live?! How am I supposed to carry on the Chen family line?! Waaahhh… I’ve lost my manhood… I’m done for… I can’t feel my lower half…”
“……”
Liu Changqing stared at him, utterly bewildered by this insane rant. Watching the tears and snot streaming down his face, he just stood there in silence.
He gently pried off Chen Dafu’s grip on his wrist.
In his mind, he thought—
Didn’t the doctor say it was just a small scrape on the back of his head? Why does it seem like this guy’s gone completely nuts?
Chen Dafu was still bawling, howling his heart out.
Ugly crying to the max.
He kept tossing his head around, scanning the room.
Once he saw the hospital equipment, his cries grew even louder. Deep inside, he became even more convinced that what he’d heard earlier wasn’t a dream—but real.
He instinctively thought he had just come off the operating table.
That he no longer had legs.
That he’d never again be able to run happily like a normal person…
“What do I do… Waaahhh… I’m only 25… My best years… I still have so much left to do…”
“What the hell are you even talking about?”
Unable to take it anymore, Liu Changqing finally spoke.
At the same time, he reached out and smacked Chen Dafu’s thigh, trying to prove a point.
“Your legs are perfectly fine, aren’t they?”
“I can’t feel them… I don’t feel my legs at all!!”
“……”
Watching him refuse to face reality, drowning in his own wild imagination, Liu Changqing stopped talking. He just stood there, staring.
Then, with a sigh, he turned toward the door.
Yep… Definitely time to call the doctor. Better have them check his brain after all.
After a thorough examination and some calming guidance from the doctor—
Chen Dafu gradually settled down.
When he finally asked about the line he’d heard earlier—the one about sawing off his legs—Liu Changqing patiently explained.
He even pointed at the TV, showing him that everything he heard had come from a scripted drama.
While it didn’t completely erase all of Chen Dafu’s doubt, he did begin to relax. Letting out a sigh of relief, he started patting his own legs nonstop.
He genuinely seemed happy to have “regained” his legs.
Meanwhile, Liu Changqing stood at the bedside, silently watching him… like he was some kind of lunatic, obsessively touching his own thighs.
Now and then, Chen Dafu would even smile… weirdly.
Even though the doctor had insisted his brain was fine, Liu Changqing still felt like something hadn’t been properly diagnosed.
Once the doctor left, Liu Changqing pulled a chair over to the bed and asked:
“Okay, quit groping your legs. When I brought you in, I called the cops. But you were unconscious back then. So—what actually happened?”
Still riding the high of having “legs again,” Chen Dafu’s face instantly dropped when he heard that question.
All the joy vanished.
The terrifying memory flashed through his mind.
That psycho attacker who came out of nowhere with a brick, completely unprovoked, and even tried to call someone afterward…
Chen Dafu didn’t dare think any further.
If he hadn’t played dead and run for it in a moment of desperation… the consequences would’ve been unimaginable.
His Chen family had only one son per generation. It was only in his dad’s time—thanks to being in the right place at the right time—that they rose to wealth.
If something really happened to him…
Chen Dafu thought of his father and mother, and a chill crept over his heart.
