Madam Wants To Divorce Her Second Husband-Chapter 126
Chapter 126: Chapter 126
—Audio recording—
’It was Camilla, your mother-in-law!".
’My... mother-in-law?’
’Yes! She told me that you are a ruthless woman, and that’s why Sebastian likes you, so I have to do something ruthless as well to be accepted by Sebastian. She told me to kill Mom!’
—Audio recording—
Sebastian was astonished once he listened to the recording. He stared at Winter with eyes full of guilt. He opened his mouth, but could not find a good word to fix this problem.
"So, do you know about this?"
"I don’t, at least until now," Sebastian replied honestly. "I was stuck in the office for the whole day."
"Well, your mother was the one manipulating Cindy the whole time. That’s why she turned from a sweet girl into a complete monster, thinking that she could be with you as long as she killed me and my mother," Winter said. She shrugged and then leaned on the sofa. "I have to admit that she is very manipulative. She can turn Cindy into that abomination, and she can make you abandon your own wife in our previous lives. What a piece of art, right?"
Sebastian clenched his fist as he was trying to stay calm whenever Winter mentioned his past. He had been too busy at the office, so the least he could do right now was to compensate.
"Then, tell me what I should do next, so I can help you," Sebastian offered. "Or, if you want to, I can handle her now. I will focus all of my people to make sure that she’d be in deep trouble"
"We both know you can’t do it now. The company needs your full focus or else we would suffer heavy loss. I just want to make sure you know anything about this," Winter sighed. "Well, I still want you to help me by collecting all the evidence regarding Camilla’s crime, so we can put her in jail as soon as possible."
"My informant is almost done collecting everything he needs," Sebastian said. "But I think I can help you more for this one."
"Help me with what?" Winter asked. "Cindy is already in the police station, and would probably be under house arrest for attempted assault."
"She will be under house arrest, yes. But I can help you by making sure my mother will get roped into the case," Sebastian replied. "It might not do much and she will walk out scot-free, but it will give her a little scare to distress her even more."
"And how would you do that?"
Sebastian smirked and grabbed his phone, "Just sit there and watch."
*
Camilla was resting inside the house that Winter bought for Sebastian before. She scrolled through her phone, waiting for any news regarding Winter’s mother’s death.
It would also be better if someone could take a picture of Winter in a moment of dissociation when she realized that her family had been completely ruined.
"Just like how you ruined my son’s chance to inherit all of Aiden’s wealth," Camilla chuckled.
Unfortunately, no matter how long she waited, there was still no news about it and she began to itch, wanting to unblock Cindy’s phone number and call her just to make sure that she had successfully murdered her mother.
As she was about to give up and wait for tomorrow’s news, she suddenly got a call from the head of the New York police department. They had been acquainted for a long time, since the loan shark business needed bribery and protection from the police department or else it’d get shut down quickly.
Thus, Camilla picked up the call without a second thought and the head of the police department sounded grim.
—
"Yes, Officer Carter?" Camilla asked in a polite and sweet voice. "Do you need something?"
"Mrs. Saenz, we need you in the police department, right now," Officer Carter replied.
Camilla paused for a moment as she felt dread in her heart, but she still maintained her neutral voice, "Oh? Is there something wrong? I thought I already paid you this month."
"It’s not about money," Officer Carter paused for a moment and said, "We caught a young woman who said that she is your future daughter-in-law, and she confessed to us that you are the one who told her to kill her mother if she wants to have a chance with your son."
Camilla had expected this much. After all, Cindy was a stupid girl, so she would’ve been caught instantly.
But where was the news? It should be breaking news all over the internet for how gruesome and ruthless the crime might be.
"I see. Is there any victim of her crime?"
"No, she attacked her sister, but a bodyguard stopped her," Officer Carter replied. "Nobody is harmed, but she was so close to murdering someone that we can’t just release her."
...
Camilla’s heart dropped when she heard that, "Wait, so nobody was hurt?!"
"No, not even a scratch," Officer Carter replied. "But you still need to come because this young woman is adamant that you are the real culprit."
"Oh, haha~," Camilla tried to laugh it off. She knew this kind of case wouldn’t really matter much because she had a connection with the officer. "Oh, you know, Officer Carter, I cannot be bothered by this kind of stuff. So, why don’t you conveniently get me off the hook, for the sake of our friendship?"
Officer Carter paused for a moment and replied, "Usually, I’d do that for you. But not this one, because there has been news about a murder attempt towards Madam Winter, Mr. Aiden Kirk’s widow, flooding the internet, so the police department is surrounded by reporters who want a piece of this gossip. You know it’s impossible to make this a hush-hush with too many spotlights."
"T-there is no victim in this crime, so there’s no point in calling me to the police station for it!" Camilla raised her voice as she thought it was stupid. "Besides, how could these internet articles pop up overnight and go viral instantly? There are too many things happening in this world for people to care about!"
"It seems that someone has contact with some big media companies because only they have control over such a massive article spam," Officer Carter. "You need to come, Mrs. Saenz. I will assure you that you won’t be charged for anything, it’s just a simple formality to make sure that the Police Department won’t be in trouble. Surely both of us don’t want to get in trouble with the court, right?"
Camilla’s lips thinned.
She still didn’t believe that anything would happen once she entered that police department. But she also couldn’t afford to be put on trial for bribery charges, because one mistake would cause a chain reaction and all of her shady businesses would be uncovered instantly.
"Fine, I will go," Camilla said. "Just promise not to make a big deal out of it, or at least make sure I won’t be directly involved."
"I promise," Officer Carter replied.
Beep.
—
Camilla gritted her teeth. She didn’t know what went wrong, because it wasn’t supposed to end up like this.
’Why is that bitch in her family’s home? Is it just a coincidence, or does she already know about my plan?’ Camilla pondered.
For the first time in her life, she began to feel insecure. She doubted that Winter had so much power that she could read her every move. But she also wondered if she should be wary of these coincidences.
’And how did she get into contact with the media mogul? I don’t remember her doing anything other than disturbing Sebastian,’ Camilla thought. ’It is Sebastian who has contact with plenty of media moguls because of his work back then. But surely, he won’t betray his own mother for a woman he just recently married, right?’
Restlessness began to crawl into Camilla’s heart as she didn’t want to doubt her son.
"Ah, there is no way he would betray me. I’ve beaten him hard enough since he was a toddler to make sure that he will never dare to go against me," Camilla told herself. "If he dares to think about it, one slap in the face should be more than enough to straighten him up so he will know to always follow his mother no matter what."
Thus, after Camilla calmed down, she grabbed her car key and went straight to the police department for a small talk with Officer Carter.
**
"I have plenty of media moguls contact, so I used them all to make sure that my mother cannot simply sweep this under the rug," Sebastian explained as he quickly showed the information from his mole in the police department that Camilla had been summoned for an investigation. "We cannot do more than this, because there is no victim to this crime, but this should be more than enough to push her to the edge, so she will be more prone to making mistakes."
